Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Sorry if I seem ignorant BlueScreen, but why/how would Intel be involved with an HTC phone? Intel helps develop some of the software for HTC? I thought Sense was entirely their own creation.

I don't want to be rude, accept I am using my SM KB on vacation atm. I did cover this thoroughly in a early post.

(short explanation)
Intel is not involved in anything, but the 4G product development. I will state, all parties in involved must sign off on protocols. Once a mutual agreement is met and all parties are happy (Drink Beer) The gold copy is sent off for final signature by all representing CEO's/CTO's of said companies. The whole thing is then packaged for FCC approval. Everyone know that passed a few days ago.

Simply, we had nothing to do with HTC/Google/Sprint accept for all things related to 4G and that was still joint effort.

Hope that helps,

Whew..is close to show time yet?

OK OK!

Let me make sure I have this right. Pre-Orders for the EVO begins on 5/21 and those who pre-ordered through BB or RS can pickup their phones on 5/29 correct? Now, am I able to preorder the phone in the actual stores as opposed to online?

hahaha, dunno if i mentioned before but i'm on sero... so i need confirmation of the new EPRP plans before i can do any upgrade and followup. thanks for the chat conversation though

That information is highly probable but yet to be confirmed. So keep on chillin till the official and final word drops.

I'm just going to wait until my upgrade date of 7/12 before making a move. I was one of the dumb ones who jumped on the Blackberry Tour ASAP and regret it because of the issues there were. I'll let you all be BETA testers for a month or so ;)

why would a majority of devs be so keen on the apple platform as opposed to android (if that ever was the case), and what about android is attracting them now, if they weren't always interested since the beginning of androids market?

This is because - unless they are getting paid to do othewise - devs write code for the phones/computers they are personally using. :D

You're seeing more Android apps now - free ones especially - because more devs have Android devices. It's ten times more fun to write an app if you know you can slap it on your phone and carry around with you.

Chill out. It's already been stated several times, that there is no known official live video feed of tonight's NY event. AndroidCentral is supposed to have a text feed going.

I'm chillin dude. Thanks for the info!

hmmn. i must not be as good of a schmoozer as i thought. i just got shut down on the early upgrade to late may from june on both a chat and a call! WTF? i'm only asking for a few days grace period.

Any word on integration with Google's in-browser video calling? All of my friends have Gmail and we use it for video calls from computer to computer. Would be sweet to call them from my phone.

Yes. we demo'd this to Sprint/HTC/Google reps during 4G peer to peer, and EVO Hotspot on all 8 devices. I should say the best we could do is allow for 3 way video conference call. The second person will show up as a thumbnail on EVO's display. Bandwith or hardware limitations became a factor, resulting in choppy video beyond three people. It was a mutual understanding that it needed to be seamless and 3 was the cut off point.

4G software coding was implemented on all of Google/Android software. Ie google googles, google maps, and all HTML based software application under the android OS.
I could go on YouTube..etc, etc.
Hope that helps

it's definitely not going to be a may 22 rollout. talked with my local store manager/evo advocate and he goes for the official training on the 27th of may and said they've been told 6/6 rollout.

I am in the same position as some of you. My upgrade is July 1st.

What if you buy it outright, keep it for 30 days and then return it. By then the upgrade will be available and you can get it for the upgrade price.

Does anyone know if that will work?

AndroidCentral is there already...You guys should follow phandroid and android central on twitter

Edit: aww a little too slow haha...Bek beat me to it

They don't make money directly from the free apps. The free one raises awareness for a different project, and it demonstrates programming skill. Also, there may be a "pro" variant of the app that has more functionality for more money.

Not to mention there certain apps have a "free" version which are ad-supported, yet also provide a paid version with no ads.

Right, and one more thing: the app might be free, but a gateway to a paid service. Like a free app for Grooveshark which is a paid monthly service.

yes. 6-6 for the unwashed massed. 5-29 for the best buys.

i'm premier - where's my promised "early access to buy new phones"???

IMO shut down the store 4 hours early the night before and open it only to premier members. have vodka and appetizers served by scantily clad women as i buy my EVO. now that would be Premier service!
