Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

I thought I read somewhere that the EVO case had a rubbery type of backing. Does anyone know if that is true and if it protects the phone to any degree?
TIA.

Yea with all the reviews and Google conference yesterday, guess all media news went on an EVO overload.

All I care about now is hearing that HTC is already working on what tweaks they need to do to get 2.2 out as early as possible for the EVO.

Yes, it was sarcasm. I understand the excitement for the phone, but to think the world should revolve around it is another thing.

I don't think they are expecting the world to revolve around the Evo. I also don't think it is to much to ask that when you go into a business of any type cellular or not that the employees know their job and perform it with competency and a certain level of pride. I used to be a manager of a cellular store that I also was a partner in. I did not mind if the employees surfed the web or talked on their phones or whatever else they wanted to do as long as there were no customers in the store and all of their work was done and the store was cleaned up. Although when a customer walked in it was ALL BUSINESS. Do you mean to tell me if you went to a store and the employees were not knowledgeable about their jobs and acted indifferent towards you, almost like they were annoyed you were there you wouldn't be ticked off? Just imagine going into a Best Buy or somewhere like that to buy a HD TV but none of them would turn on or they weren't hooked up to cable or satellite. On top of that you couldn't get the sales rep to answer any questions about the one you wanted because they simply did not know their product or would not get off of a personal call. Would you be inclined or even able to make a purchase? You can't see how the product works, you have incompetent help. Come on! So while I appreciate good sarcasm and use it regularly I think you were out of line on that one. Bad customer service in a retail store, that is one good way to hurt Sprint more and maybe also lose potential buyers for the Evo.
Word of mouth about a bad experience coupled with an already spotty reputation...not good.

FROYO can't come soon enough! Thanks for confirming the performance for me; i had wondered if the evo would be slightly slower than the incredible since the phone has so much stuff packed into it hardware/software wise

It stinks that there's really no release date for 2.2 on the Evo. Sure, it's rumored as the "second" phone to get it behind the Nexus One, but I just wish Sprint and HTC were more transparent in their roadmaps. If 2.2 is as fast as we hear it is, getting it onto Sprint's powerhouse smartphone needs to be a TOP priority--and fast!

i hear you but this assumes they have a roadmap. it could be that they don't know enough to make announcements about timing, order of phones that will get 2.2., etc.

This is probably more accurate than any of us would like to admit, but the initial reports about rolling it out to all of the 2010 models seems somewhat promising.

Here's to a surprise by the end of the summer...

They'll be better and faster at this than usual. Otherwise sales of their phones and service will get hit hard because timing-wise Google's going to push this now that the OEMs & carriers don't have to worry about competing with Google.

I don't like not having an exact date, but I'm not that ruffled because they don't meet the dates anyway.

Thanks for the links guys, Saves me from having to search on the fourth.

No worries.. it was a complete fluke when I found this... and of course I had to share... did you get it installed?!?!

NO clue where all of the "Swype" stuff is popping up from - nobody ever mentioned it up until a few days ago.

I am relatively sure Swype is NOT included. And the Beta for it is closed, so for the time being there is no way to get it on the device.

Edit: Yes, Swype came on the Omnia, but that was a special thing as part of a Samsung phone. HTC and/or Sprint have never included Swype by default on a device, and I haven't heard anything about that starting now.

swype does come preinstalled on the t-mobile android phones.

i would not be surprised and hope it does come installed on the evos.

fyi, just talked to my local BestBuy mobile manager and he said he has about 50 preorders. I asked about having extra stock on the 4th and he said he has to report numbers by close of business tonight. He said if you preorder by close of business today you will be guaranteed one on the 4th, but other than that people would have to wait until the next shipment a week later. That sucks, so if anybody is on the fence you better get in there and preorder today!!!!!!

I have two preordered.

Hey you go guys, 720p video recording on the Evo in low as well as good lighting! :)

YouTube - Testing HTC EVO 4G 720p

Well It aint know studio production HD Camera, but for a cell phone it looks pretty darn good. These out of touch reviewers are expecting way to much. Just shows their ignorance what did they expect? That hollywood producers were going to ditch their HD and 3D cameras for the Evo? LOL. I cant wait for that phone call from Radio Shack June 4!!!!

I am actually not very impressed.

Here is a video from my Panasonic point and shoot camera that does 720P (be sure to select HD in YouTube).

Check out my other videos and I think you will see that the image sensor on the Evo, like most cell phone cameras, is just not large enough to let enough light in. Plus, I suspect the bitstream is not as great.

Still, it should be leaps and bounds over most other cell phone cameras.

Well Im impressed, compared to my HTC Diamond its night and day. I dont think anybody thinks this is meant to replace your camcorders, but for a cell phone it looks really good. Not everybody likes to carry their camcorders everywhere they go. I only carry mine for special events or when im in the mood to record. I cant wait to get my hands on the EVO!

I am about to go to Radio Shack to pre-order EVO, do they check credit history there or they do it when you are going to purchase phone?

Or easier question, can they check my credit when you pre-order to at least have an idea if I have to pay a deposit on top of the EVO price?

Does it say $20 on the card or on the receipt? The type of card they use is loaded at the register, so no matter what amount is printed on the face of the card, they can put any amount they want on it. These are the same type of card we use where I work. Just look at the long a** receipt and make sure it says $50 deposit and I'm sure you are fine.

new to sprint, or current, upgrading customer? i think that's the deciding factor. and, it sounds like they'd do it today.

if they ask you the security questions, don't get them wrong!
