I was thinking the exact same thing. It makes you wonder what exactly is going on especially since Sprint said that the EVO was coming in summer, but now it is releasing earlier than that and right before the new iphone unveiling. Also, with all the bad press of dropped calls and slow internet, I was wondering why the iPad data was exclusive to AT&T. It made me think that Apple won't renew the contract and gave AT&T the iPad data instead.

If the iphone was announced for Sprint prior to the EVO coming out, then how many people would actually buy the EVO instead of just waiting for the iphone? Now since the EVO is coming out prior to the announcement, it will allow people to try it out and probably keep it if it is a wonderful phone.

If Sprint and Verizon get the iphone, then I think it will be a double-edged sword. The good news is that the big 3 carriers will pretty much have the same phone selection and with that the only way to differenciate themselves would be with price and that could lead to a pricing war. Good for consumers. The potential bad news is what this will do to Android. Apple has 21% of smartphone sales and that is because it is only on 1 carrier. Just think if they release the phone on Sprint and Verizon. That is an extra 140 million customers to target.

Apple as a contract with att until 2012. That is know, since they annoucned the original Iphone.

In December, apple and att met to decide what they wanted to do with the ipad. Apple threaten to cancel the iphone deal if att did not step up to the plate. So att handed the ipad service for 30 bucks a month, and apple added 6 more months to the original contract. So, it will be not until late 2012 will you see an iphone on any other carrier but att. (side note of lte phone may or may not come in 2011)

Things can and will change. But for know the original stands with 6 months added.
 
There's actually quite a variety of lengths for the HDMI cable. Here's where you can see them all:

You can find each of their distributors (like arrow) by clicking on the part number > Click "Check Distributor Inventory" > Click whatever region (Americas)

This should show links to whatever distributors are carrying the cable. That's how I found arrow to be the cheapest and no minimum buy.
 
im very surprised youtube to tv via hdmi doesnt work. didnt we see a demo at the pop event comparing the evo screen to the iphone screen where they both played that cupcake trumpet video? i could have sworn the guy hooked up the evo to a tv and the video played fine.

bill, can you try to play a 720p movie or tv show from an sd card on the tv and share your experiences? thanks!
 
Yeah. I've actually contributed pretty heavily on a couple of sites on how to set Handbrake settings to convert movies to be played on a phone.

I was just asking if Bill could do it. ;)

You definitely can get YouTube to play out through the HDMI. Bill, I obviously have no clue how its done, but I've seen it done. In fact, PC Mag did a [piss poor] HDMI review where they talked about YouTube through the HDMI.
 
OMG...OMG...it's STARTED!! My local newscast is ALL over the price drop on the iPhone. The stupid weatherman just quoted "well guess they dropped the price in preparation for the new iPhone 4G in June"..WHAT!! I wanted to jump thru my tv and beat them ALL. We're still weeks away from the zombie convention and Apple has already started getting exposure for it...come on Sprint, I can't handle this nonsense without something to keep my mind off it LOL =)

And c'mon, the new iPhone 4g?? Really!! I hate hearing terms thrown around that ALREADY HAVE A DEFINITION ugh...the next week is gunna be TOUGH
 
I'm not sure if the timing of the iPhone "4G" is purely accidental, or if it was strategic, but whatever it was, I'm sure it'll work to Apple's benefit (and conversely to Sprint's detriment). It's unfortunate that a large majority of the people won't know the difference between a 4G phone & a 4G network.

I'm willing to bet we'll all hear someone with a new iPhone say, "Mine's a 4G phone too." Ugh...

Fake? I've bought and used cell and camera batteries from ebay for years. Yes if a person thinks that they're going to get good cell phone batteries for a $1 with $4 shipping then yes they'll get questionable quality batteries. But a person with 20,000 reviews and a 97+% rating is selling quality products.

But each to his own, my suggestion is simply another source for batteries at a reasonable price and to me $40 for a cell phone battery is not a reasonable price. I will be buying a couple of spare batteries off ebay for my EVO!

Just my two cents,

Well for those of us new to HTC AND ANDROID, I think it's grest sprint is giving us a 30 day eval.

Just some thoughts. .....if Android is so open why have to root? What's the difference between iPhone jailbreak?

The hdmi port and software is already looking like amatuer night and that was a big

draw for me.

Everytime I look at evo review I am blinded by reflections on screen.

If iPhone screen is double resolution and indeed has a video out that's decent, I think hdmi out on evo is a bust.

I like metal frame on next gen apple, not plastic.

Just my feelings on the matter but we shall see...

By the way anyone preorder the Sony nex 5?! I like the phone portibility but... Take a look.

You do not have root for security reasons.

If you change something in user mode, it will only effect the top level of the os. You can not damage or change the protected areas. With that in mind you can undo what you did in user mode really easy. If you are in root, what you do can destroy the boot process, corrupt files, and allow access to all levels of the phone.

For example. If you download a piece of malware, the malware will only have user access. Which means little damage can be done. If you are running root and download malware, the malware can actually cause the hardware or software to fail. Completely take over your phone, locking you out of it. Or simply delete everything, including the os.

99% of all windows problems comes from the fact that internet explorer runs at root level. In saying all of this, most users should not root your phone. It is dangerous, if you do not know what you are doing. Jailbreaking is the same thing. Same problems.
 
this might sound dumb to some people, but, if you have an extra battery for the evo and is completely charge but dont use it for about three days after you had charge it, will it still be fully charged? why is every one making such a big deal over this battery thing...does it really drain quickly?

I was just thinking the same thing... WTF is Sprint thinking?!?! Why aren't they advertising... does anyone have any insight into why we haven't heard anything yet?!?!
