We have an official topic for this, it's sticked...
Also, this doesn't mean EVERYONE will get it.
Some of us dutchies will be able to get it IF it's true, people in other countries will have to wait.

Oh, so cool if it happens..... HTC must have been putting in some serious hours, as last thing I heard we were due for upgrade before end of q3.

Great news!

To the people that have upgraded in the past - Is it a painless process? You just upgrade and that's it? Is it better to do a factory reset, or is there no advantage in that?

This is fantastic news IF: -

1. It's true
2. They manage to pull it off.

We'll just have to wait and see. I just hope us in the UK get ours soon.

I have done 1 upgrade in the past. I upgraded my HTC Magic to 1.6. It is a very simple process. Just click update and it installs it.

presumably installing an ota update like 2.2 will be like a factory reset and you will lose all data and apps from the phone, so we will need to do a backup before updating, and reinstall all apps and re setup the phone, mail, account details etc after the update?

or am I wrong?

that would be AWSOME! But yeah, if its coming to a "select" number of people.. it may just be a way for them to "test" it before going mainstream... but I'm still HOPING! (I know they have been working hard to push out froyo since they dont want people switching to the iphone 4 just because you cant put apps on your sd cards)

does everyone get it from the day its released, or doest it slowly spread. i live in australia, and down here we are really slow with these kind of things.

can we update through by connecting our phone to the computer, or does it have to be OTA. And also i know this has been asked before, but just want to double check. my phone is with telstra mobile, so does that mean i have to wait for telstra to get it, or is the update through HTC or android.

thanks guys, im so excited for froyo

there have been loads of accounts of Froyo release ever since 23rd June. Untill today the users have gotten nothing except rumors. At least I am still in doubt that tomorrow will be a release day. Especially in China I think I'd have to wait on and on and on and on....

For triple check:

My Desire is not contracted with any carrier, some people say that I can be able to easily upgrade by a tap on " System Software Updates" in "Setting" only if the phone is connected to internet or Wifi. nevertheless I still have a little doubt about that as the others tell the difference.

If the notification on the update comes, and you are not at home to use your home wifi, will the notification stay on the phone until you have a chance to update at home?

Cheers
