[OFFICIAL] Froyo OTA downloading/received - w00t!!!

I was having horrible battery life, even with wifi, gps, and bluetooth turned off. It was so bad that overnight it had a huge drain without being used. I read some old stuff that talked about thrashing between froyo and task managers so I delete the one I had. I wouldn't call it conclusive yet but I seem to be getting much better life.

I also had lookout installed but had never gotten around to setting that up and trying it. I deleted it earlier today but that didn't seem to make a difference although I didn't really give that much time. I therefore can't point the finger at this app.

I did notice that there were lots of things running and they kept getting restarted quickly after I would kill them. I would like to know how to stop some of this stuff from starting automatically. It doesn't seem like android gives you control over auto start apps. I suppose if I rooted......

Does anyone's led notification light work? I thought it was included in this update but its not working...

If you are referring to the two spaces to the left of the speaker than you will be disappointed. Neither one is an LED light. Samsung felt this phone didn't need one lol

Maybe gingerbread will fix it! LOL

I haven't needed any type of automatic task manager (not even my personal favorite: autokiller, which does require root) with any build of 2.2 that I've tried. I haven't tried the OTA yet, and I know it runs more processes than some of the cleaned roms I've tried, but I have tested a stock leak of 2.2 with all the Berizon crap running, and it didn't seem to benefit much from any kind of auto task killing in terms of performance or battery life.

I realize each fascinate can be a bit different than the next, but that's been my experience so far. My wife's Fascinate continues to run an EB01 based Froyo leak without any task managing and she regularly gets a day's use and typically solid performance out of her phone. All I did was remove a little of the bloat since it's rooted, and skin ADW launcher onto it. Other than that it's mostly stock 2.2, and task managers don't seem to help it much at all.

Got a question guys. Did a search, but can't find the answer.

How can I install the stock FroYo on my Fascinate without OTA? I still have mine, but I canceled my service when I got my Atrix and switched to ATT. I don't want to root this phone, I am trying to sell it, but I want to update it to 2.2.

Did anyone receive an email from Verizon for the link to the OTA Froyo upgrade? I have not received any email at all.

Nevermind. I went to the Check Update in About Phone and had found the OTA update. Funny that I did the same yesterday and it told me there was no update. The update is very straight forward and very easy to do.

Wow, I went on a honeymoon and got to come back to the elusive 2.2 OTA update. What a nice wedding gift.

Hi, all. Hopefully you're all still reading this thread. I bought a bluetooth headset (MOT H17) from Verizon about a month ago when I was running 2.1. Headset broke (my fault, kept putting it in my pocket) so I got another but from Cellphoneshop.com. Huge price difference, which threw up the red flag, but i bought anyway. However, I'm having problems with it. It won't stay connected to my phone. i'm thinking it's defective, but i'm also wondering if anyone else is having any problems keeping their bluetooth headset connected now that we have the update? Mine shows "paired", but when a call comes in and I open the boom on the headset, it won't connect. Thoughts? Suggestions? Another wall to bang my head against?

I connect to a motoralla bluetooth headset in my car and don't have any issues. I talk on it all the time.

Anyone know if now phones picked up from the store will have this preinstalled? Will be switching to vz soon.

That's hard to say. If they're phones they've had in stock for a while, not likely. I don't know on new shipments. I would think so. Berizon often updates new shipments with later software, but I've seen carriers not do this as well. If you're buying it in a store, it wouldn't hurt to check, but the update should be pretty painless on a new, stock phone.

K so heres my question i already have the UN official froyo and it works fine minus a few force closes and glitches. can anyone tell me if the official one is better over all or should i just stay where im at cause its working fine plus im already rooted. save me the trouble and another possible heart attack with boot loops :S
i realise its the same thing but im gonna assume its more refined. little bugs fixed.

If you go back to stock and get the official updates all the way to froyo you'll get the new ED01 radio, which is quite similar to the EC01 radio, but reportedly even slightly better at reception and signal/battery management. It's not going to be much of a difference. You can Odin the EC01 radio if you want to stick with what you've got. Or you can go back to stock with one of the Odin all in one stock images (let me know if you need links to any of this). After going stock and getting all the OTA updates up to 2.2 then you can choose to stick with the stock experience or root again with your ED01 radio and get whatever ROMs/themes you want.

The new community ROM is exceptional, by the way. Just to let you know.

*sigh* anyone having problems with text messaging or instant messaging since the update? I'm not getting a lot of my messages (for IM...regardless of the app I try to use). Plus my email isn't refreshing as it should and I'm having other problems with the phone being slower and such. I'm wondering if it's just me.

Even though I'm trying to help you a bit via messaging, I thought it might be helpful to double check with you here if you did a factory wipe as part of your 2.2 update process? This can be extremely helpful for major updates, and can solve a lot of issues. Even iPhones often benefit from a wipe/factory reset before and/or after a major official update. I've always had better luck with my android devices when I do a factory wipe at least after the major update. Some people wipe before and after.

First...Thanks for all of your help! I'm sure I'm not done asking for it, but I want you to know it's greatly appreciated! :)

Now....I'll probably follow all of your instructions on the factory wipe later today, and I'll keep you posted on the outcome of that. I can post that here on this thread ;)

I spoke to technical support reps at Verizon about 3 times yesterday, did a ton of troubleshooting (all things I had already done before, but I had to humor them and do it again...including a factory reset). One of them forwarded me to Samsung technical support. That person proved to be completely useless. It was a very frustrating experience. The popular thought of the day for all of the reps was that the MOT headset I was using (that worked perfectly fine before the 2.2 update) was not compatible with 2.2. So....it was new enough that I was able to exchange it. I picked up a Jawbone Icon, which they assured me should be fine with Froyo. Well....it isn't. So, I called tech support back to ask them to send me another phone since the last person said that they'd need to send me a new phone if a new headset didn't work. What do you know...had to go thru troubleshooting again even though they had a record of all the prior tries with the prior reps. *sigh* Anyway....getting a refurbished phone tomorrow. I'll let you know if that fixes the bluetooth problem I'm having.

to SirKronan: I will likely still want to root my phone to customize and such :p

If the jawbone gave you fits, too, and you had to go through all that troubleshooting and STILL couldn't get it to work, I would want a new (in this case recertified) phone too. Hopefully the replacement works better. I am still confused on one, thing, however. Why didn't Berizon reset it back to 2.1 and re-test the bluetooth? That would have been a critical troubleshooting step in my opinion.

As an aside, however, their 2.2 excuse is just that - a lame excuse. I find it highly unlikely that 2.2 itself was ever the problem ... Sorry for all your troubles.

There were two reps that kept pushing to set it back to 2.1. The last rep I spoke to told me that they cannot set it back to 2.1 because it would void my warranty. So, I told him he needed to track down the two reps that were pushing it so hard. I would have been ok going back to 2.1 and trying that entire step if they would have allowed it. We'll see how it all works out tomorrow ;) I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

As a side note, I think I'm done with Samsung phones after this one. I've had a ton of LG phones in the past and have liked all but one (LG EnV Touch). I think my next phone should be LG :p I hear the Revolution is coming out soon (maybe any day now). I'd love to get my hands on the Optimus 2X, but I think it's going to T Mobile.

I'll keep you posted ;)

Yep. It's a bummer VZ isn't getting any of LG's really good phones. The Revolution is an attractive device, but it's getting that same bulky LTE radio+snapdragon combo - far inferior (design wise) and less elegant (so far) than solutions available on GSM carriers currently. We'll see how it does on battery. I'm sure it will be a pretty good phone, but it still falls horrendously short of what other carriers are getting.

I'd much rather have AT&T's "inferior" speeds of 6-14 megs with their superior devices than Berizon's 20 meg speeds with inferior "brick" smartphones.

Give us the SGSII on Berizon ASAP!!! Gosh I am really hating on Berizon these days....
