Thanks for posting this information and video. I installed the program and my GPS has worked with every related program. Your help is more than welcome.

I presume someone will create another thread, possibily titled "Official - Official - Samsung GPS fix is being pushed out" when it is actually happening :p

I just got off the phone with AT&T Business a moment ago. Here's the latest update:

I buddied up with the tech guy for another issue and before I let him go, I chatted with him a bit about the GPS issue. He said he knew of nothing but I had perked his own curiosity, so he said if I was willing to be put on hold for a while he had a direct line to Samsung and he'd inquire. I said of course.

I was on hold a very long time. Got a bit worried. But then he came back and said he had all sorts of info for me...

First he said he had to be transferred all over the place, including the Philippines, before he got someone at Samsung in the USA to talk to. He said he only inquired about updates, and not specific reasons/bugs. He said the Samsung tech said that right before his shift closed last night he got the official corporate word about a "V2" update to be pushed out to the Captivate phones to address "the known GPS issue". He said that it should be rolling out already randomly to groups of about 10,000 sets a day. You will receive a pop-up notification about the update (assuming you haven't rooted, of course).

I got his permission to spread this info around. So hopefully this is reassuring to lots of you. :)
THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE! I just spoke with Joel in level 3 technical support and he actually told me with a straight face that the Samsung Galaxy was designed and its "specifications" are such that the phones GPS is meant to get you within WAIT FOR IT ..... 1600 METERS OF YOUR ACTUAL LOCATION!!!!! If you haven't already returned this phone DO IT NOW. I am stuck with this POS!

Lol, are you serious? That's a joke....I seriously doubt that. Company reps will say anything these days...

script-reading tech support people aren't relevant, neither are managers of local AT&T retail stores. If it doesn't come as an official statement from Samsung I wouldn't put any weight on it.

No need to panic. It's a clear case of miscommunication. The rep probably was referring to the accuracy obtained by triangulation of cell signal or something like that. In fact, people are reporting today that there is a new firmware for Captivate (not officially released to customers yet). People found it today and started testing. Some reported GPS improvements but we might have to wait a little more to know the whole story. Check this link.

Yea, either way. I think we can now safely say, Official: GPS fix is being pushed out.

Almost every day now I read an article on some gadget website about this problem and how samsung is saying they are working on the fix.

Also the fact that these "firmware leaks" keep surfacing, show that they are indeed being worked on, and not only are they working on the GPS issue, but also seem to be tweeking speed and battery life! Then with Froyo on the horizon, this thing is really gonna rock.

From the link above:
No word on what AT&T is communicating to its peeps regarding the similarly-afflicted Captivate, but it looks like T-Mobile fired off a communique to its sales reps in the past few hours letting them know that the Vibrant's update to solve its GPS woes is expected in September, echoing earlier an statement from Samsung. Interestingly, the reps are being told not to refer to the September guidance, but to instead rattle off a variant of Samsung's statement that says "the next few weeks" instead, presumably to give these guys some wiggle room in case it hits in August or -- perish the thought -- later than September. Keep your fingers crossed, folks.

Why is it always AT&T who always keeps us out of the loop. All they are about is Apple and it's pissing me off!!!

From what I hear is att employees are trying to push the torch and iphone over the captivate , take that for what its worth .

Im not sure that this is true or not, but i think the issue here might be that iPhone is ATT best seller. Of course, any buisness in the world is going to push their best welling product.

Again i dont know if they are pushing the tourch over the Capt. but it could be because they are more familliar with the iPhone/ BB products more than Android. Up until recently, Android was really unknow territoty to ATT, still is. I think they are more comfortable selling/pushing/showing off products they know more about. I think a used car salesman would be more likely to try to push you a Civic over say a Fiat?

I am not really trying to stand up for ATT sales, because i think, in a majoritive scence, they are really uneducated about their products. I am mearly trying to introduce a different possibility to the pesimists besides, "All the other companies are assuring their customers their SGS phone will be patched except ATT. So this must mean the for whatever reason the Capt. is the only SGS phone that cant and wont be fixed by Samsung, so it sux".

I dont think this is the case.
