They most likely did have an agreement to promote the Droid over other phones for a certain length of time. But that time has come and gone most likely. Going by the timeline that came out during the holidays the Droid launch push was November 5th to December 26th.
Verizon Holiday Publication Promotes Droid | Android Phone Fans

The more time that passes the more I'm convinced something happened that messed up Verizon's plan and I'm starting to think that what happened was that they got screwed by Google. Go back to their partnership announcement. This was in the press release "Integral to this agreement is a commitment by the companies to devote substantial resources to accelerate delivery of leading-edge innovation that will put unique applications in the hands of consumers quickly. The two industry leaders will create, market and distribute products and services, with Verizon Wireless also contributing the breadth of its nationwide distribution channels. Consumers will be able to purchase products resulting from the collaboration in Verizon Wireless retail and online stores.". Now the first act after the partnership was the Droid launch (though Google only really having to do with the Droid and not much with the Eris). But what was the second act? Google decides to sell the best Android phone, the Nexus One, online from Google only. Yes it will come to Verizon later. But I find it hard to believe Verizon went into this thinking "We'll have the best Android phone for 2 months, then Google will sell the best phone all by themselves and then we'll launch 2 not quite top of the line phones while another top of the line phone from HTC comes out to other carriers first" and thought it was a good deal. I just haven't seen much come from this partnership and I don't think its because of Verizon.

Yeah, that's kinda what I've been thinking lately. I get this feeling that Google is alienating themselves from everyone and that Verizon and HTC are working on projects apart from Google. Google may have done something to make everyone mad. Who knows? As long as Verizon and HTC collaborate to bring us the Incredible and it's a fantastic phone, I'll be a happy man! But yeah, I'm with you on that one. Google seems to be alienating themselves from everyone else.

All internal specs of the HTC Incredible are strictly speculation and rumor at this point. There has been no confirmation. Every time you hear RAM mentioned in an article referring to the Incredible it says RAM "is said to be" 256. "Said to be" is completely different than RAM is "officially confirmed" to be... Right now all of the specs are just guesses and hearsay, except for what we know from pictures and video of the phone which are the obvious cosmetic features of the phone and some software stuff that is evident in the video and pictures.

Personally, I think there is NO WAY this phone would release with less than 512 megs of RAM on board.

True. The best we've got is a developer said that he was told the processor ran at 850mhz. Of course the same guy also said it had 11 screens (vid from pocketnow seems to show the normal 7) so either he was looking at some mod action or wasn't totally in the know about the phone. Outside of that we know it has a camera and dual LED flash and thats it. Give the incredible 512 of ram and I could care less about other features of the desire.

Sure. But the fact of the matter is that the only thing that we have heard is 256MB RAM, and we have no evidence to believe anything different. If the phone, in stock form, can run "decently" w/ 256MB - why put any more?

Well all of the sudden becoming a phone seller could not have gone over too well with everyone. I wonder how much good Tmobile is really getting out of the Nexus One deal. It doesn't seem to be selling well (they're giving them away free at every damn conference) so they can't be bringing in that many new subscribers (which I think was Tmobiles goal with this deal). Its had problems with Google hoisting some of the problems onto Tmobiles crappy network coverage (like they didn't know before hand it was so bad?). So Tmobiles tech support probably hates the damn thing as everyone calls them out of reflex only to be told to call someone else. Though maybe for putting up with the N1 they got access to new phones before other carriers.
Otherwise I think Google is forgoing their "do no evil" policy (which is BS because evil is relative) to become a bigger player in the cell phone industry.

The Desire pretty much screws the nexus. I think that T-Mo is willing to ruin their relationship with google to make money.

The Nexus One has 512, the Desire has 576, and even the smaller, slower Legend has 384. So, it makes perfect sense that this phone WILL need more than 256. Even the Legend would have more than it, and it's a slower processor and smaller screen. That's why a lot of us believe that there's no way that this "was said to be" talk is actually factual when referring to the RAM on the Incredible. Especially if this phone is released, as many seem to think, with HD video enabled. It's just pretty much impossible to have it release with 256mb of RAM. Even the Droid Eris has more than 256, it has 288.

Read all of the links. What I'm saying makes more sense now, right?

Still thinking about getting the Nexus One over the Incredible? Think again. I have read about the N1 ad nauseum - pros and cons - and after reading as much as my mind can tolerate, there's no way in hell I'd get this phone and be forced to rely on Google when the damn thing acts up.

Why take the chance on a first generation, unproven customer service format that is already failing miserably? There is an increasing number of people out there who really dislike this phone - for a multitude of reasons. There is no ONE smoking gun found here. Think about it - you'll spend thousands of dollars over a 2 year contract when you buy a phone, accessories and service. You'd be smart to make damn sure that you get every penny of what you pay for.

FINALLY! Someone got my Dumb and Dumber reference! haha

one of the things i miss most (after I returned my Eris back in Dec) is the D&D soundbite app. Man was that great. Whenever someone left a vm it would say "I know and I don't CAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRREEEEE!" Made my day.

Perhaps I'm a bit confused but I think I agree with what you're saying. Just at first glance, and without looking at screen size or specs, I would say the Supersonic and Incredible look similar.

Another thing that occurs to me is that we see the Nexus One available for TMobile and then about 6 weeks later hear about the release of the Desire. IF....the time line were to be similar for Verizon then we would see the Nexus One available for Verizon customers in the spring and then around June (as suggested on a web site that slips my mind but I think it's something like pda.net?) we will see the "Incredible". I agree that the styling looks a lot like the iphone. I could be happy since in the very beginning I was looking for an iphone on Verizon. Now I see the Desire and salivate as it's a much better looking phone. I think I will probably end up with a Nexus One...but will wait a few weeks after it is released on Verizon to listen to all the gripes and see if anymore news is released. Ideally having a smartphone by summer would be nice for travel.

Oh and as far as calling peoples motives into question. Here's what I think is more typical than some might think. I held off waiting for awhile and was sure I wanted a Droid. I went into the store with my wife. We both held the Droid in our hands for a good 15 to 20 minutes and just did not like the form factor at all. We were not pleased enough to lock into a two year agreement and get stuck with that particular phone. The Eris would have probably made a better choice for us but still a big let down since we were really wanting something more along the iphone realm as far as screen size and power. At the time this all happened the rumors were already flying about the Passion/Desire/Dragon...which ended up being the Nexus One/Bravo/Desire/Incredible blah blah blah. People like myself want to see a powerful smartphone with a good sized screen come to Verizon since that's the network we want to use. I currently have a very dumb phone but am willing to wait or take my business elsewhere. This is why it is so frustrating to watch all the other carriers get these types of phones first. Why is this so hard for some people to understand?

not hard to understand at all.

That brings up an interesting point. The Droid is the flagship rigt now and Verizon put a massive amount of money into the campaign. What if that was a deal with Motorola for a pre-determined time? If Motorola and Verizon had something like a 6 month agreement going, that puts the Incredible release sometime in early May.

i was thinking the same exact thing.

So, hypothetically, the VZW braintrust puts a 6 month timetable on turnover and the progression of technology? LOL - I think if thats the case - they may need to revise their thought process. Especially in this market... Sounds like they need some of us in there :D

you're right, that's stupid. My thought process is more on the calling of the droid "flagship device." How long must a device reign in order to be a flagship device? It's not a flagship device if it is trumped in 3 months is it?

I'm sure that we don't need to worry about RAM. The person that had the phone clearly didn't know much about it, and do you really think he took the time to figure out the RAM? I'm still confused about where that is coming from.

I don't think they did. Mainly because why would they? Unless it was just a handshake agreement what did Verizon get out of it? Whatever money Motorola gave Verizon probably netted Verizon nothing after the ad campaign they put out. Didn't Verizon spend a million or so on that campaign?
It goes back to does Verizon actually care which phone they sell? Outside of getting something really new I don't think they do. Hence a Motorola Android device or a HTC Android device, 6 of one half dozen of another to Verizon.
I still think something got screwed up. Verizon was supposed to ramp up their holiday offerings with new device launches in the first 2 weeks of december and nothing happened.
The only agreement between Motorola and Verizon that may have led to this is that the Devour had to be the 3rd Verizon android device. Even then I doubt it. Though the redesign the Devour went through would explain why its coming out later then expected.

Hi Everyone,
Here goes my lurking story...My NE2 ended about 2 weeks before the Incredible photo leaks. I went to VZW and almost bought the Imagio (biggest screen at store) but I just didn't want a mini PC in my hand. I liked the droid and was having fun with it but I felt it was too bulky for me and I didn't want the extra key board. Then I started searching online for other HTC phones and found the photos and video. I HAVE BEEN HOOKED EVER SINCE! I kept searching for HTC Icredible everywhere and found the forum. I was double hooked now. You guys are great!

I currently have an Envy2 and I have been wanting a smartphone ever since my friend got the iphone.

I will stay patient for the Incredible although the desire videos and the HTC sense demos make me want and hunger for the Incredible....A LOT!...and I also am driving my family crazy!

As far as the specs go...Just to throw something stupid out there...Where did the 256 ram come from...was that writtin' somwehere?...what if they meant...." 2 . 56 ram"....that would be....dare I say it....."INCREDIBLE"

really wish i could just hear some official news...

is that too much to ask? even if it is not released until the summer(hope not) i would like to have a specific waiting length. Im like just floating in limbo here.

And i hope they add more to the phone design-wise..it's a tad plain besides the rocky mountain back. Im hoping for the back to be smoother, and a darker red.

I know that I have heard NashDroid say this on here, but I will repeat it for you in a different way.

Verizon does not care if you want to hear any official news, UNLESS, it fits into their business plan, and that business plan is the combination of the following key components:

- Development
- Marketing and advertising
- Sales strategy
- Purchasing, (among such is the deals with the phone manufacturers)
- Lots of other "stuff" that I do not understand because I do not work in the field.

Add all this up, and it is supposed to translate into profits for the company and its shareholders.

The .001% of their customers that hang out on these forums are NOT SIGNIFICANT to them in relation to the many many verizion users in the real world.

I do not want to sound like I am busting on you, (because I am not), but you can post this message a million times and it will have no impact on the release of information from the providers or manufacturers. You're just getting yourself frustrated and taking up space.

If you want to make Verizon or AT&T, (or others) sit up and notice, put together a major ad campaign on TV like "We've got a map for that", and you will get action; but it may not be what you want.

Unfortunatly, we are simple mortals that cant afford to play in their world and just can't do enough to make them notice and care. You accept that when you sign up for ANY cellular service.

Kind regards...

Waiting in limbo is the worst part, because it makes me combine all of the features and specs of other gorgeous powerhous phones and build this true superphone in my mind that I want, but the odds of actually ever getting that phone are slim to none. The longer that I wait, the more I want out of this phone. I never should have gotten into this speculation rumor waiting game...but then again if I can sit here and convince myself to settle for a droid or eris, I should be able to convince myself to be able to settle for an ugly and under spec'd Incredible (if that even is the case).

I agree with those of you who can't see the Incredible having less than 512MB RAM, I just can't see it. I've got my fingers crossed for any sort of news soon, I'm hungry for some information!

The problem is there has not been any official news about the Incredible released by Verizon, it is all leaked information so we aren't supposed to know about it at all at this point.

According to what Vodafone's president said, most of their partners are getting the desire, and because Vodafone owns 45% of Verizon, I think we see some promise. I am still on the theory that the Incredible is Verizon's version of the Desire. HTC's products manager said that networks work to make a phone theirs (in other words "looks"). So, I think we can stop worrying about RAM. Really, do you think they are going to release it with that much RAM? Tech noobs would think it was too slow.

to continue on what pequeajim said...

I don't get it. You expect VZ to discuss their plan with everyone? Tell you what is coming out in June? How about tellign you what R&D is working on for release in 2011? 2012? New networks in 2015?

And Chevy should tell us what their engineers MAY have in 2012 or 2015?

Panasonic telling us of their future HD plans eben though their still n development?

You people act as if it OUR RIGHT to know what future phones will be out because you're tired of waiting?

A G-- D--- phone can be under $100 with ciontract. Stop you're f-'in whining "whine, whine, I bought a phone and now it's a month old, whah, whah, whah.

I TOO, WAS TIRED OF WAITING. BOUGHT A USED DROID FROM CRAIGSLIST FOR 325, THEN WILL USE MY UPGRADE WHEN SOMETHING COMES OUT THAT I LIKE BETTER.

Hey Diesel, I am driving my family crazy too. Welcome:-)

Sure does. I'm aware of specs on the latest phones - I just wanted to make sure that there were ligitimate reasons to believe that the incredible will get >256. Thanks.
