***Official HTC Incredible Thread***

i agree, its gonna be nice to tell people the name of my phone is the incredible rather than say "its a droid eris 2"

Well yes, but that would mean the owner of the phone would have to let you look closely at it. Just thinking it might not be immediately obvious. I don't think if I saw one out and about I'd even think to inquire about which carrier the person had it on.

Wasn't the Eris known as the desire up until the official announcement, and then the name change occurred? Wouldn't this also be a possibility for the Incredible?

I think verizon is aware of the buzz around the "Incredible" and is happy to capitalize on the already existing name recognition. They don't want to be saying "Oh, you're looking for the Incredible, it was renamed. You actually you want THIS device."

I think Sprint would've been in the same boat with the Supersonic, but that went to the Evo, so I don't think that's necessarily true.

I don't think that's a believable rumor. I've been hearing for a while a few people thinking the Incredible could be Verizon's Nexus One. I think we've pretty much proven that wrong now.

I don't believe it ever showed up in the Equipment Guide as the Desire, did it? I know people saw it in the inventory system or something. The Equipment Guide is pretty much a last step before it's released and a little late to be changing the name.

Maybe so, but the Incredible name is something that is already hard to trademark (a patent lawyer has posted about this before) because it's kind of like trademarking the Best Coffee in the World. Names like the HTC Awesome, HTC Amazing, etc.... are in nature hard to trademark.
