Rooting voids your warranty and you take a chance (probably small if you follow the directions from a good source) of bricking your phone. Also no over the air updates for rooted phones for the most part. The N1 will also have a lesser camera according to NKT is thats your thing.

I've cooked many ROMs and never bricked a phone (knock on wood) camera isn't much of an issue for me. 8mp would be nice but unless you are blowing up pictures the difference between 8 and 5 isn't real noticable. OTA's aren't a big deal because I can just cook a new rom with the latest and greatest. On the warranty thing I have gotten new phones from VZW after i have put custom firmware on them. if the phone doesn't work at all they have no way of telling what is on it or if i have loaded custom firmware!

NKT-- So your saying there is no real performance diffrence between the Incredible and the N1? The N1 looks like it fits in your hand better where the Incredible is boxy, am I correct in assuming that?

Since many of us have been considering the N1 vs. Incredible...the comparisons are inevitable. With that in mind...I read that the N1 has hardware issues. I wasn't aware of that? But I haven't been hanging out anywhere but here. I thought the N1 was an excellent phone. So I guess I have my homework cut out for me because I haven't really compared the phones spec for specs. Anyone care to let me off the hook and give me an easy out?

1. What are the N1 hardware issues?

2. Does the N1 shoot video? (NKT says the Incredible does not...or at least no 720p.)

3. NKT says the feel in hand is better for the N1

4. Incredible has Sense UI and Verizon support.

5. N1 has a faster clock speed and will likely have faster updates.

6. N1 has noise canceling mic...Incredible does not.

7. N1 has larger battery....but this point could be mute due to the lower clock speed and the availability of aftermarket batteries.

Otherwise these phones have very similar specs. Have I missed anything? Anyone care to comment on the differences I've posted?

I realize other's have put up comparison posts...but to my knowledge these are the only meaningful differences...minus the hardware issues? Yes?

Thanks!

Incredible has 8 MP camera

Has anyone checked out the comments to the article regarding the phone and pic's posted here by NKT on Engadget? Most are not very kind. Lot's of people not happy with the underclocked CPU and the form factor. I wonder why when so many here seem to really like it?

Regarding the form factor: most of those folks probably haven't been following the development of the phone. I for one was going to give up on the incredible if it released with a screaming red back. Now I'm back on board. I think a lot of people weren't too keen on the shaped back, but I have gotten over it.

Welcome back!

The rounder edges of the N1 just feel better in the hand. The Incredible is a "little" boxy. The pictures don't really show the edges and how they angle.

It's not bad. Not as good as the N1, but miles better than the Moto.

Performance isnt bad? Its faster and smoother than the moto droid? At this point i wish verizon was getting the Desire. I love the physical buttons.

NKT You are da' man! I have 2 questions that remain unanswered. Thank you in advance for your response.

1. Do you know if this phone is 720p cabable of HD video recording, like the Desire is said to be with a future software upgrade?
2. Did it have google voice running on various apps like the N1 does?

NKT, thanks for posting!
Can you say if the soft buttons like search, home, etc are working correctly like they do on the Droid, or do you have to touch a little above them like on the N1?
Thanks

He (NKT) mentioned earlier that there's no 720p recording on the Incredible.

All,

First time poster here. I've been lurking since page 1 in early February (about 1 week after I heard about this phone and returned my Droid).

Thank you for all of the info and great discussion. A BIG thank you to NKT for todays updates.

About the noise canceling mic that is supposedly NOT on the Incredible -- How does this effect call quality? The Droid had one and I noticed quality was great.

The reason I ask is because I have noticed when talking to friends that have their iPhone hooked up to their car stero speakers and are using speakerphone....I can hear LOUD feedback (myself echoing in the background).

With my old Droid I NEVER had anyone tell me they had this problem. Does the second mic prevent that? Has anyone else run into this?

Just curious!

Incredible has 8 MP camera

Fair enough...that can be added to the list...so otherwise I pretty much have a good summary? So the choice isn't completely clear...but the Sense and Verizon support combined with the better camera are a bit more compelling. I think the Desire and N1 are better looking phones....but am a big fan of the finish on the Eris...so I would say that helps in the looks department. My year plus wait to enter the smartphone market is drawing to a close! Awesome! :D
