You should of responded "The Photon Q is a down grade from the Photon, so the $100 rebate is an even bigger disappointment than the lack of Jelly Bean."
 
I love how the response to the email complaining about the lack of an update and why the writer wasn't buying another Moto phone was a copy/paste of the original announcement. The 10% off coupon on a Mototola accessory is just insult to injury. That's some fine customer service work there, Lou.

I almost dread checking the Photon sub-forum nowadays. It's an abandoned wasteland of crushed hopes and broken promises.
 
The worst part of this (well, pointing to one thing & calling it the worst about the whole situation is laughable, but I digress) is that you can't even hold out for another phone, it's either the PHOTON Q or nothing.

That's akin to trading in a 2011 FORD MUSTANG GT for a 2012 FORD FUSION.

It'd be nice to actually see the official count on how many people took MOTOROLA up on this offer.
My guess would be in the low 100's tops.

The Photon Q is not worth it for me. Everything is like an attempt at last year's tech. The screen is exactly the same as the Photon, but with the color saturation turned waaaayyyy up. The storage is crappy (especially when google play doesn't allow you to change where the videos are stored) I would rather keep the photon as the backup. I bought my SG3 a month ago and it's already getting Jellybean (sprint roll out starts tomorrow!) Yeah consider it lesson learned. Moto has officially made the do not buy list for sprint for me. I would highly caution anyone from buying a photon q. Where is the Jelly bean update for the Photon Q? In the coming months?

You can see where I am letting everyone and their mother know how Motorola screwed me.
 
Since the 2.3.5 upgrade(was it?), I usually need to re-start my phone to get 4G to work. Are others experiencing this? If so, doesn't Motorola have a legal responsibility to ensure 4G is properly functional on phones sold with the name "Photon 4G"?

I've been doing this on google+ but twitter is going to be the next avenue. I feel particularly burned because 1)the photon is more than capable of handling ICS 2) this was the first phone in years Motorola made for sprint that was high end, we all took a chance on moto. All the other High end sprint phone are getting upgrades, not the photon!

Since the 2.3.5 upgrade(was it?), I usually need to re-start my phone to get 4G to work. Are others experiencing this? If so, doesn't Motorola have a legal responsibility to ensure 4G is properly functional on phones sold with the name "Photon 4G"?

I have had that problem since forever. If I make a call while on 3g, I could never switch to 4g after w/o a reboot. Sadly don't expect any updates, even maintenance at this point. Moto has wiped its hands of the photon.

I'm still on 2.3.4 and I have that problem. I reboot my phone on a fairly regular basis and don't use 4G that often, though, so it's not a big deal to me. I also don't expect this bug to ever get fixed. As said above, Moto has washed their hands of the Photon.
 
Just tried to install xbox smartglass app but requires Android 4.0 - this is the last straw. If we do not get ICE like they said we would, I well never buy another Motorola product again which is a bummer because I have been a loyal customer since the startec days. I may even drop Android and Sprint which has been making pay an extra $10 per month for nonexistent 4G...

I think most of us are done with Moto. I haven't encountered a single Photon or Atrix owner (on various boards or in real life) who have any intention of ever buying a Motorola phone again. Such a shame, too, since the Photon is a great piece of hardware.
 
I bought the photon the first day it came out because I was pretty confident that it was the "best of the best" at the time, and it would be able to receive updates due to the high specs.

If Moto would unlock the bootloader, I would be happy to just load a new ROM and move on, but I was locked down after the last OTA. Piss on Moto.

CC, I haven't completely sworn them off because I'm giving them at least 2 years from when Google took over. I still have a slight inkling of hope that they'll make a comeback. I'm definitely not counting on it, but it'll be a pleasant surprise. I still feel Moto makes the best complimentary accessories of all the OEM's
 
I am done...

they were to hyped back when on their "razor" phones...the slim line flip ones....

knew they were awesome in the radio antenna because of all the "walkie talkie types" they do....

but what a pisser from them or google (you know they knew what was coming down the pipe while in talks to buy them) to completely lock this thing down...

Like was said...at the time...best of the best....even now...top 25%....but they all but chopped the legs out now though...

Samsung has picked the ball up and decided to play again....

now when sprint gets their S together where I live and i get LTE, then maybe the sg3 well truly break out....

There's the $64,000 question, why not unlock it & let us proceed on our own.
Perhaps someone will figure out how to unlock the 2.3.5 version, or, at least find out exactly why MOTOROLA refuses/can't unlock it.

I would actually consider buying another one if it could be unlocked.

Well that's true, they could turn things around once Google has time to influence them more. Given how Google has apparently turned their backs on Verizon with the Nexus 4 (for the time being), and how much in bed Moto is with Big Red, I honestly don't see things changing for the better for quite a while. Maybe denying Verizon a Nexus phone is Google's way of trying to buy some influence down the road, but if Samsung can't even keep Verizon from messing with their phones, who outside of Apple can?
 
Add me to the list of people never buying another motorola device. They flat out lied, and there's no reason to give more money to a dishonest company. A real shame, given how much potential this device had. I'd like to limp along until the next samsung galaxy comes out, but it'll be tough. (It's a lot harder to put up with the photon's bugs once you know they will never be fixed.)

I definitely agree with you there, some of the bugs I've been hitting are driving me insane. The whole having to reboot to reconnect to 4G, voice commands popping up for no reason, and are few others got worse when I lost root and updated.
 
See, here's an example of a corporation completely missing the mark. Motorola had us. We were fanatics for this phone because it was a beast. I don't know if it was because Google took over or if Sprint didn't play nice with Motorola and Google or it was just old fashioned bungling on Motorola's part. However, this was a real bad screw up.

It's fortunate for Motorola / Google that the customer base for the MoPho was on the small side. I have read here and elsewhere where disgruntled MoPho owners have sworn to never buy another Motorola phone again. Considering that Motorola invented the mobile phone business, that's a shame. I can't say that I blame them and I initially felt the same way.

I still feel like Motorola / Google would have to do some serious courting to entice me into another Motorola / Google product. It's not completely impossible, but Motorola / Google now has some serious selling to do as far as I'm concerned as a former MoPho fanatic.

It will be interesting to see if Google will actually keep the Motorola brand or simply gut Motorola taking all of Motorola's patents and slapping their own brand name on a new line of phones. I'm especially sad because Motorola was a local company of which I was proud. I grew up near Schaumburg, IL where Motorola invented the mobile phone and built an empire. Many of my friends and friends of friends worked for Motorola. Now that tradition is gone, as far as I'm concerned. Now that Motorola is gone, because let's face it, Google won't leave Motorola alone to do its thing, it is on Google to prove itself as a manufacturer of hardware. They know how to do software, that's clear. But, will they be able to take enough of what Motorola was to be able to cobble together a good product line? That remains to be seen.
