**** OFFICIAL **** ICS COMING SOON thread... Post all questions and info here!!!!

There are a couple kinds of customers.

Customers who want the latest hardware, the latest software and the latest operating system, and are more than willing to pay a premium price to have those things.

And there are the customers who just want a phone to make some calls, send some texts and cruise the interwebs possibly replacing their phone in a couple of years.

Currently I am in the first group. But the games that Verizon/Motorola/Google are playing, in the name of profit, are wearing just a bit thin.
I realize that Verizon only had a $21B profit last year AND they were subsidized by the Federal Gov't by having to pay $0 in Federal taxes, but honestly to quote Ted Kennedy, "Where does the GREED end? When does the Greed stop".

Don't they realize that for less than half the money we can have an Android phone with Unlimited talk/text/data.

While the man is screwing around with his base, the competition (Prepaid) is looking sweeter every day.

I know no one of importance will ever see this but I just had to vent.

Come on Verizon/Motorola/Google get with the program and remember the folks who made you #1 or how bout this idea ......

You test your software AND I'll test my new Straight Talk phone ....
Let's see who gets to where we want to be first !!!!!!!!

Good Luck

Tom

PS... BTW I personally believe Hardware should NOT be sold by a SERVICE Provider. Phones should be manufactured to work with any service provider and be sold by the manufacturer. Maybe it's time for a tensey bit of Gov't intervention representing the best interest of the American people. After all, Ma Bell wasn't to big for them.

That is kinda the way I was thinking. Get the manufacturers on board to build generic devices with specific hardware capabilities, then sell the devices with the basic software to operate them. That way the carriers would be forced to have competitive pricing for the service, wait... did I say "SERVICE"??????

Back in November when I was trying to decide whether to go with the RAZR or wait another month for the Galaxy Nexus, I thought it would only take Motorola/Verizon a couple months to get ICS on the RAZR. If I had known 8 months would pass with no sign of ICS, I would've gone with the GNex instead.

Lesson learned.

Nearly EVERY non-nexus phone is this way (even more so when the carriers have to approve updates).

If you truly want to switch, check the classifieds, there are always G-Nex users wanting to jump to the RAZR or MAXX. :)

Having ICS does not automatically make a phone 'better'.
Yes, I'm looking forward to having ICS on the Razr. But I had a Gnex for a week and it was nothing but problems for me. ICS was cool, but it didn't make up for the other faults of the phone.

I agree. It's kind of like if you had to buy a computer through Comcast or some other ISP instead of buying from Dell or HP and then choosing your ISP, or deciding to not have internet at all.

It's all about the $$ and nothing else. They are, after all, a business and businesses exist to make money. Sux for us, but they're perfectly happy

Verizon IS trying to get out of the hardware market...that's part of the rationale behind their new shared data plans....If you buy an unsubsidized phone you can keep your unlimited data plan if you laready have one...a friend of mine in telecom told me that the U.S. carriers are gradually moving way from the subsidized model...

Husband's Xoom tablet got ICS OTA yesterday. We didn't even upgrade it to 4G so I wasn't sure if that would affect the ICS upgrade or not. He said he got the upgrade notice a few days ago, but just did it yesterday. He says it's much faster. Patiently waiting for ICS on my Maxx, though I do love the phone as is anyway.

I have seen some pretty convincing screenshots from reputable members of forums, but still have not got my text.... lol

Anyone get the text message about ICS from Verizon that cnet is reporting about? Probably another shot at cnet's credibility.

Got the message today.. here be the copy pasta:

Free Verizon Message: Your phone will soon be upgraded to Android 4.0. At that time we will remove your Verizon Wireless Mobile IM app because it is not supported on Android 4.0. Please download a new instant messaging app to use IM on your phone. Thank you for using Mobile IM!

Nice that they are sending the messages, but it doesn't bridge the gap between now and the end of June.

"Soon" could be August too, lol

I too was skeptical about the texts. But I did get it. At 10:28am cali time. I replied with a "yay" and it sent a separate message with a repeat of the first message. "Free Verizon Message: Your phone will soon be upgraded to Android 4.0. At that time we will remove your Verizon Wireless Mobile IM app because it is not supported on Android 4.0. Please download a new instant messaging app to use IM on your phone. Thank you for using Mobile IM." I do hope that this update comes today or at least over the weekend. So I don't have to waste company time fiddling with ICS lol. Which I am sure will happen anyway. HAHA

Nothing in Detroit either. could be regional

Nothing in CO Springs either. I just figured it was another rumor. To me, "soon" means the day before I decide to pay the early termination fee. IF, for some reason, ICS doesn't come out before the next iphone, I'll be switching for sure.
