**** OFFICIAL **** ICS COMING SOON thread... Post all questions and info here!!!!

There are quite a few thousands of people "beta" testing .211 right now.

The issue is that Googlerola has been popping out the updates like Cyanogen Mod! New every night!

It's not coming tomorrow.

Motorola always does soak tests before a release (basically like a beta test). They test out the update with a few thousand users for anywhere from a couple days to a week. If no major issues are found, within a week they will release the update to everyone. There hasn't been a soak test for ICS on the MAXX yet.

Thanks so much! I'm getting a lil tired of checking my "about phone" and seeing the ol "Your device is up to date! No update is necessary at this time." So frustrating...I keep hoping for ICS...*sigh*

No disrespect, but, how do you know they haven't done a soak test???

A) Because it would be all over the forums and Android news sites if they had. Moments after emails go out to those who are chosen to be a part of an incoming soak test, those people flood the boards and news sites with information about it, regardless of confidentiality agreement.

B) I've been a part of every Motorola soak test on Verizon (for the phone I was currently using, and I've had all of them at one point or another) since the Droid X. Motorola doesn't always use the same people, so I could be left out of this one, but given the history of soak testing and level of involvement (which helps to determine if you're chosen for future soak tests), I'm pretty sure I'll be included. But if I am, you won't see me talking about it until the general release goes out. :)

True, and while I'm sure Motorola pokes around on the forums to see how the leaks run, given their history, they'll still do a legit soak test. There can be a big difference between a leak running on the phones of people who root and mess around with their phones and people who don't. For the soak tests, Motorola wants phones to be unrooted and stock so they can get a real world feel for how the update will run for the vast majority of users.

I believe ics is coming tonight. Try fooling around and tried updating and it continues searching for a update. Servers are active but not there yet. Will be tonight.

I'll give 211 a whirl because the bugs in 79 make this phone thoroughly unpleasant.

To the comment that 2.3.6 + Blur is pretty decent, maybe that was my point. People who lived through the Droid X with blur vs Blur on the Razr wouldn't recognize how awesome this phone is with a Moto skin.

Or you can just wait. I guaranty somebody will release the update as a ROM (the same exact software as the OTA) within 48 hours of the roll out. Much less hassle installing it that way, your guaranteed to keep root (probably not an issue with this update, but that is always a possibility that an update breaks root), and you'll almost certainly get it faster then waiting for Verizon to hit you.

Probably, but those who don't want to wait at least have an option now (without being unsure of if they'll ever get back on the upgrade path). :)

I would have to agree with Jroc. I am on a GNex (I am researching here because my brother and friends are on a Razer or Maxx). Again, depends on what Moto does with it, but for me going from custom roms (D1, X2) to ICS (GNex), the difference really is night and day. Will it fix all of your issues with your phone? Likely not as the GNex still has issues and has been on ICS from day 1. But the UI is smoother, faster, and more "elegant" IMO. It will be well worth the wait which I imagine will end fairly soon.

Oh, and BTW, the GNex on VZW is different than other Nexus devices. VZW had to approve the build and I believe came from VZW (also late) (4.04 from 4.02). To be honest, there are times when I am envious of my brother/friend's Razers. That is one damn sexy phone!

Good luck to all here!

I've got a Razr Maxx coming tomorrow... it's a replacement for my Galaxy Nexus because I can't make a reliable phone call with it. The tech at Verizon said a soak test (he actually used those words) is coming soon for the Razr and they (VZW) is still hoping for a June release of ICS. We all know that what the VZW reps say should be taken with a massively giant grain of salt, but that makes me happy if it's true, as that will mean I'll only be on Gingerbread for a few weeks, assuming I keep the Maxx.

You know those text messages from Verizon that many people are receiving.....I have to come clean.....they're from me........sorry:smokingsomb:

If we all had a dollar for every rumor spread by a VZW rep we'd all be millionaires at this point. I was in a VZW store yesterday getting a MAXX for my father-in-law and spoke with a really knowledgeable sales rep. He said that he had no idea when ICS was coming out and that he hasn't heard anything about it lately.

Oh I agree wholeheartedly - 'tis why I said I took it with a grain of salt the size of Texas. ;) Found this out with both the release of the Nexus and the release of 4.0.4 for the Nexus. That's one of the problems with large companies like VZW - lots and lots of mis-information.

It sucks that the rumors that Verizon supposedly sent out were fake they were just from spammers!

Just wanted to chime in and say that I got the text about ICS from Verizon 2x on the 15th of June.

Also wanted to echo that Moto's skin on the Razr is pretty damn good, all things considered. My father-in-law has the G-Nex, and I like ICS on there, but the ICS vids that Moto has put out with Blur layered in look pretty nice as well.
