Official Kies Mini for the US

Great discussion around the problem with connecting Captivate with the KiesMini. Some folks are still having problems making connections and others have figured it out. What is interesting is those who have make connection on their Windows 7 64 bit machines. I am one of those with a W7/64 bit laptop and have done all the suggestions listed in this forum without any luck. I am still having the error message, "Mini Application Launcher has Stopped". This error message closes the Kies application. I tried putting the phone on USB debugging. But, when I connect to the laptop, it asked me to change the connection from USB debugging. If I don't, then there is no connection. It seems it will not let me be in USB debugging while trying to set the USB connection to Kies.

Can a good heart here please piece together (on an easy-to-follow format) the key steps and checks one should follow to ensure all points have been exhausted? That will be priceless.

This is a painful situation...we the users of Samsung Captivate are sitting at the confluence of a poor service provider (AT&T) and a non-responsive manufacturer (Samsung). It is the worst possible combination!!!

Thanks for the help!

First, welcome!

I wish I could. Kies software really sucks the big one. My only contribution of value:

Delete all references to Kies from the Windows registry using the search phrase \Kies. This exercise was of benefit to me before I finally succeeded in getting Kies Mini to work.

I used Kies Mini today to update my firmware. I have had no luck connecting to Kies "full" or via the ATT server via the phone.

How are you running Kies -- on win-dose? on linux?

Do I need Kies if I move files from linux onto the /sdcard or /sdcard/sd
using either the data cable or bluetooth?

Very confused,

I finally go rid of the "MiniApplication launcher has stopped working" error by uninstalling Internet Explorer 9 Release Candidate. My phone is currently updating. I'll post back if it completes successfully.

OK. So, no luck with the update process. Kies mini downloaded the phone upgrade and then started the upgrade process, but stalled at 1% for the last 7 hours. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get it to finish the upgrade without bricking my phone?

I was having the same problems with the MiniApplication Launcher crashing, so I tried uninstalling Kies mini and then reinstalling it. This didn't work.

After that I came to this forum and tried to install the .net framework 4.0, but this didn't work either. Then I tried uninstalling IE 9 release candidate thinking that could not possibly work, but it did! I'm not sure if IE was the culprit or a combination of both, but that worked for me.

I posted about this last week - same thing happened to me - I installed IE9 RC on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit machine and Kies MIni ceased to function. Uninstalled IE9 RC, and all was well. I only used Kies Mini to update my wife's Captivate to stock Froyo so I could compare stock Froyo against my Captivate. I am running Serendipity ROM. Serendipity wins hands down and going away. Her phone is going to Serendipity, too.

Since I don't need Kies Mini anymore, I will go back to IE9 RC on my machine - it is terrific. I now have Kies Mini installed on my daughter's XP machine to use if needed.

Also, not sure everyone is aware, but Windows 7 Service Pack 1 is available from Microsoft Windows Update. We have two Windows 7 machines in the house - one dual core one quad core, and both are updated to Service Pack 1 - nice and stable operating system. We also have the XP machine - single core. All nicely networked with shared printers (2) and shared folders and network drives (2). My daughter has an Iphone. All the phones are on the WiFi network as soon as we walk into the house. The Wii is also on the WiFi. Gotta love technology.

After many frustrating attempts to upgrade my Infuse 4G via the Kies-Mini program without success.

I spoke with tech support from Samsung, Kies Mini is not compatable with 64 bit OS.....

Sorry, but they are wrong. (Samsung wrong? Who would have thought that?) Kies mini works well on Win 7 64-bit. I've used it on the Froyo upgrade last year, and the Gingerbread upgrade this year. Have you tried deleting and reinstalling your drivers? That usually works.
