[OFFICIAL] LG G3 Updates/Speculation Thread

JaRN99

So this is my first LG smartphone & I'm extremely pleased with it so far. But the rumor mill is almost non existent....anyone know of any news/rumors about new updates coming out? When I had my Galaxy S4 there were always rumors about the latest updates coming out & it was fun following them/waiting for the updates to hit.

I think people are so pleased with the g3 there is nothing to wait for or be anxious about.

At least that's the way I feel :)

I would agree.....but there's something very "Christmas morning" like about seeing that pop-up on phone screen indicating there's a software update ready to be downloaded & installed.

I know what you mean.
A lot of us kept that feeling going w/the LG G3 Pre-Release/Rumor/Speculation thread:

http://androidforums.com/lg-g3/840685-lg-g3-pre-release-rumor-speculation-thread.html

Naturally, the thread has since been closed.

However,a thread dedicated to updates & related speculation would be a nice one-stop place for such information.

I hope you don't mind that I've taken the liberty of renaming your thread/post & will possibly sticky it in the future. :thumb:

I'm honored......I've never had one of my posts stickied......LOL.

This is my first LG in the smartphone era too. Is it very true that LG isn't so hot when it comes to getting updates out?

That said, I'm kinda surprised we haven't seen any maintenence/bug fix updates on AT&T now that the phone has been out for a couple months.

I did do a Google search on LG G3 software updates & found an article saying it's possible LG may skip 4.4.3/4.4.4 & go straight to Android L.

Here in the UK, have had 3 updates already ... and I've only had the phone 3 weeks. I reckon that is pretty good, compared to when I had my S3, and hardly ever had any updates

Has there been any noticeable changes or additions with any of those 3 updates?

There is a quick icon on the lock screen for getting into the camera. The other updates have been performance, apps and battery optimisation

Unfortunately, cannot really advise if they made any difference there, as 2 of the updates came through on the day I got it, so hadn't had anytime to test it

Hope it's ok to ask here, should I just give up hope of a Prime or any other 805 model coming to the states? I'm a sucker for battery life, and I've been trying to justify patience since the original model launched. I was hopeful with rumors of the Prime hitting Europe alongside IFA, but as far as I can tell, that hasn't even happened yet, let alone even any rumors of hitting North America.

If you're on AT&T,I BELIEVE the 805 model is compatible with their network.
You could import it,but,of course it's kinda pricey w/o any carrier subsidies.

Here's a fairly recent review of the LG G3 CAT6,w/a link to purchase,if it seems like a worthwhile investment:

LG G3 Cat. 6 (Snapdragon 805) review | Android Central

I'd definitely confirm network compatibility before ordering.

I'm on the Three network in the UK, and have their software installed. So far, I've received one update which took me from 10a to 10g but I gather the generic code is already up to 10j. Is anyone else here on the same network and have you received any further updates? I've no complaints about my current software version but would always welcome improved power optimisation.

Ive read that one of the updates in Europe has helped with heating issues. I would really like that one. my phone has gotten to 83 C. it jumps up pretty quick so its not like I keep pushing it. I usually put it down at 70 C. at least it cools down quickly. I hope they don't wait until L to put out updates in U.S. we probably wont see that until 2015.

The S3 never officially got 4.4.4, well at least over here (UK). The only way to get 4.4.4 was via custom ROM's

Seems it was in Asian countries it started to appear, but rest assured the G3 will be the last and likely way into next year before L even thinks about coming over the air to any G3's. I really hate the way Android phones let tyhe carriers dictate the updates schedule unlike Apple.

Can't compare Android to Apple. Apple both writes the OS and builds the phone. Being open sourced is a both a blessing and a curse.

I agree w/this^^^^^^^^

I don't think ANDROID 4.4.4 really brings very much to the table in regards to improvements/added features over 4.4.2

Most updates that are gonna be needed/wanted are likely related to LG's implementation of ANDROID (U/I-features),not the core ANDROID O/S.

Besides, this phone hasn't even been out a full two months yet.
I wouldn't worry about the phone being left behind, updates will come.
There's no way LG is going to abandon their best selling phone ever.

With ANDROID L right around the corner,my guess is that you're not gonna see any bump in ANDROID version until L rolls out,& likely a few months afterward.

I'll take android L, but I wouldn't even want an incremental kitkat update. 4.4.4 wouldn't bring much to the table that we would even notice, and you always run the risk of it breaking something else. The kitkat update for my Verizon note 3 made voice and data reception worse than the galaxy nexus. The g3 performs so well in this regard already that I wouldn't want to run the risk of it being borked.

The battery life killer is the display tech on the G3. The 805 as per reviews is not helping that. Only a new display tech will for future models.

I do LOVE my LG G3...but I do have one thing for speculation. When will we get the update that allows us to use VoLTE on VZW??? I'm very excited to try out "Advanced Calling 1.0".

Right, it's official, 5.0 is coming soon! At least to the Nexii devices.

While I like to think Google are cracking down on the fragmentation I don't know how confident I am we'll see 5.0 on the G3 any time soon.

LG would appear to have a poor record to date.

However...it is possible they've been coding on this for a while already, fingers crossed!

Thoughts?
