[OFFICIAL] LG G3 Updates/Speculation Thread

I get terrible service in my neighborhood on Verizon g3 like 1-2barspeople always say I sound like I'm moving phone away from my mouth, I'm hoping this update fixes it. Has anyone had any real negative effects before I install it?
 
My phone never lagged but downloaded the update. it did give me hope it'd be 5.0 because the Powered by Android logo has the Lollipop style Android lettering like my G Watch does, but alas, another update that makes changes i never notice. since it's been the fastest phone i have used i of course, as they say in Hogan's Heroes, 'i saw nothing! i hear nothing! i know nothing!'

Apparently the update will break one-click root. i tried Stump Root today and it says 'device patched, sorry'.

Not hearing that at all from what I've seen/done. I updated and didn't lose root. Seen others say the same thing.

I was just rooted and not bumped.

It's great that you retained root with no problems. I do have twrp, too, as do a fair number of people, and I was reading about a lot of not so fun things going on, including people being really happy that annoyingduck came up with a guide to get back to 10b stock because folks were having trouble.

I waited the couple days, then just updated individual modem, boot, and system files, without any trouble.

It's all good, different ways to get to the same result. I generally go slow on updates, look for a consensus on things that are fairly low risk with a clean path to recovery if something goes weird :)

Yes, I was excited to read this at first, until I realized I probably wouldn't get the update on AT&T until March. I'll most likely be on a Nexus 6 by then anyway :-)

Really disappointed that I haven't even gotten so much as a tiny bug fix update here on AT&T since I got this phone in early July. It could really use it :-/
 
It is not Lollipop...

Not sure what is new in that one or what it fixed..

Damn. I haven't seen the recent apps bug since updating, but that might still just be a coincidence. Also haven't had the screen suddenly wake back up after I put it to sleep, but again it's only been about one full day, so we'll see. Otherwise, there seems to be less lag/stutter when flipping through home screens. Other than that I don't see anything new.

I wish they would add in the damn brightness slider, as other variants have, and/or give the option to remove the constant AT&T logo in the status bar.

The folks at AT&T have announced they are rolling out a new update for the LG G3. Unfortunately, is not the much-awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop update, but only a minor one. Anyway, the new LG G3 Android 4.4.2 update is out there, so you should keep an eye on the notifications bar.

According to the changelog posted on AT&T’s website the new update arrives with Google Security Patches, stability improvements, Mobile TV, and Skyfire Toolbar removal. It seems it also updates GMS (Google Mobile Service) and brings the “no power on” fix via Qualcomm’s patch. The new firmware is labelled KVT49L.D85010f.

  1. Tap Settings from application tray or pull down menu.
  2. Tap General in the top right corner.
  3. Tap About phone.
  4. Tap Software Information.
  5. The following information displays:

Well, that was a nice couple days, but both bugs are back with a vengeance :-/
 
Just got the Verizon update. Advanced Calling sounds interesting but I'm not sure it's really beneficial at this time. Verizon notes that more dropped calls may happen as a result, and it also loses Caller Name ID. Not sure I want to take that plunge at this time.

VZW and AT&T have a deal in the works to allow cross network HD calls (but only between those two), but for now it's Verizon to Verizon only.
 
When will the VZW model get lollipop? They are still running the very first version of KitKat!

I'm guessing that the new 160mb update I just got today won't be lollipop nor even an upgrade to 4.4.4 KitKat

EDIT: still on 4.4.2! Blast its four versions behind! Somehow I bet if this were an iPhone I'd get the update right away. I'm failing to grasp why Google or LG can't lay down the law and force all carriers to update at launch. If Apple can do it so can Google.

Just like Samsung the international models get all the love while the USA gets the shaft. I'm not normally patriotic but the USA is still relevant!

About the only noticeable change was the 'powered by Android' on the boot screen getting the new lollipop 'Android' logo, which made me hope it finally got lollipop.

This is nothing new. Same thing with pretty much every phone purchased from a US carrier. We are probably looking at something like February or March for lollipop. You have a while to wait yet.
 
Then why do many Android news sites say that the G3 was getting it back in Nov? Lies?

When I moved from Samsung I thought the days of international models getting all the support were over. A Nexus is a deal breaker due to no SD slot or Multi-Window support. But this total disregarding for the US is unacceptable.


I'll get flagged for saying this but Google really needs to take a few pages from Apple regarding no bloatware and no upgrade delays. I mean Android is #1 for crying out loud!

Carrier unbranded devices will almost always get updates before carrier branded ones due based on the fact that there's one less approval process the device has to go through before receiving the update.
 
Well the new HTC One M8 I got seems better at OTA than my G3. Already getting 4.4.4. The G3 remains on 4.4.2--literally four versions behind! And looking at release dates for lollipop there is zero mention of the VS985 variant. Only D series and international models. Glad to see HTC giving some love to the USA

Oddly enough Apple and HTC don't have this issue with carriers. Maybe it has something to do with disdain at the mass Verizon branding all over Samsung and LG devices? The M8 has only one on the back. What is also odd is the serious lack of even custom ROM's for the Verizon model.

LG announced a while ago that they would not bother going to 4.4.4 and would jump right to Lollipop. And what from 4.4.4 are you missing? Do you know what the differences are?

You need to relax a little. We'll see Lollipop soon enough, and not long after (if after at all) everyone else sees it.
 
Doesn't matter I replaced it. I'm just plain sick of international models and other carriers getting support more than the Verizon Model. There are instances where the VZW variant never gets updates (Samsung) unless you root and flash a ROM. I find rooting an unacceptable solution for a problem which should not exist. Besides the support of the Verizon variant even in custom ROM circles is pathetic. You need a D series or international model to get anything current or good--even with a Samsung Galaxy Note 3! A phone older than the G3! International Notes have CM 12 but not the Verizon--only KitKat.

Versions over four versions behind for a new flagship is unacceptable. The LG G3 is four versions behind. Even the M8 has 4.4.4! And so far from looking online only the international and D series (D852, etc) are guaranteed to get lollipop. The VS985 isn't even mentioned and most US variants are simply saying 'might get it in February.' That isn't helping boost confidence. I might not like HTC all that much but at least they support their line consistently. It irks me to see folks posting LG G3 screens of lollipop even here and bragging yet I'm left out because I don't live in the UK! The USA is relevant people!

I am just tired of international models getting updates while the USA is shafted. HTC phones might not be much to look at and have a pathetic camera, but when they give out updates they all get them. No crap where international models are the only ones getting it or get it first while we here in the USA sit waiting for a year

By the time the VS985 G3 gets lollipop, if it ever does, it won't be new anymore. It will be probably three updates behind. Lord knows Google might release the next major Android by the time it gets 5.0. Apple syndrome. Getting the new features late

HTC also doesn't lie and get everyone's hopes up by claiming (incorrectly) that their flagship gets lollipop before the Nexus line does.
