Official - My Droid Razr is here!!! thread

Any word on root yet? I'd love to be able to toss in my TB backup from my DX and have all my apps up and running in one shot. No root makes TB restore a chore...

I use "My Backup Pro" when my phone isn't rooted. Not as good as TB but gets the job done.

Loving this phone so far. Time will tell how it performs long term. Either way i could easily throw my rooted Droid Charge in the garbage now because it doesn't even compare to how quick the RAZR is. So long screen redraws.

Can't get over the feel of the RAZR as well. It just feels tough. Build quality is the best i have seen on a phone yet.

Lol everyone's busy with their new toy. So far (6 hours) still no issues with reboot, heat, lag, screen problems. Its been perfect.

Wicked fast is the only way to explain this thing. I can't get over how good this thing feels in hand lol.

Got mine up and going. Seems to work well but as others have said time will tell about the battery anyway. Fits nicely in my hand but I do have big hands. First impression to me was impressive.

I echo those sentiments. Been using it just about non-stop since it arrived early this afternoon. No issues to report, blazing fast and is extremely lightweight and comfortable in the hand. Also no burning off of my fingerprints and can honestly say it is not getting too warm. I do have mine set to auto-dim the brightness as I don't care for a blindingly bright screen all the time.

I will be chiming in here n there, gotta finish cooking dinner for my kids....damn them and needing to eat!!!! lol

Screen does get....warm...havent experienced ....hot....yet. My battery was at 40%, charging it up all the way to play with it longer. About using it on the charger, my Droid 1 and DX1 wouldnt work well at times on the charger, so if all that happens is the screen gets extra warm...I dont know what to say. Cuz its charging now, not in use and the screen is normal temp.

Tested the splash guard. My DX1 screen got wet today from the rain and I had to do a battery pull and wipe the screen as dry as I could for it to stop tripping out. I was washing dishes and the RAZR continued to work normally with a wet screen. (screen got wet from my fingers, hands, no I didnt dunk it in the dish water...)

Setup went very quick. Like when Froyo came out and my Droid 1 ran thru the Quadrant test faster...either the dual core and/or 4G made my connecting to Google to setup my account fly.

LTE test: 6Mbps down, 2Mbps up, 80ms ping outside in front of my building. Inside my apt is STILL almost a dead zone...I live n work in a bad reception area.

Speaker sounds louder than my Droid X1, notification and ringtones so far. Thats one reason I kept my Droid 1 in regular use, it was louder than my DX1.

Thats all I got right now, will chine in soon with other stuff. One last note: I havent seen the Bionic, DX2 and D3 screens...but the RAZR screen is far from horrible so far. Yes I can see the Pentile at the closest of MY normal viewing distance. But its so subtle...it really isnt an issue. My normal viewing distance is between 1ft, 3 inches to 1ft 9in, yes I measured..lol And at MY normal viewing distance...I have to focus on it to notice it. At 1ft, 9in and further I honestly cant see it.

EDIT: I have been using it just now checking speedtest results, changing ringtones, calling it checking the ringtone loudness....no warmness. I reckon it probably has to do with downloading or speed tests, using that cpu, gpu. Dont really know yet. I was downloading apps I used on my DX1 earlier when I noticed the warm screen.

OK, first impressions -- love the phone -- loaded Fox News Radio and tried to listen on the way home -- cut out about every 4 seconds like clockwork - however, FNR has always been wierd. Shifted to Amazon player off the cloud, and no cutout. This was while on the road. Battery isn't exactly stellar, but I've been playing with it a lot, so maybe I need to give it a break. My wife is extremely happy with the phone, so that counts for a lot! Again, first impressions -- feels solid, like the Droid 1 did -- one review said it was like 'holding a gun' and, even though it's very thin, it feels substantial and well built. I tend to hold onto my phones (and my guns) a long time, and this one doesn't seem like it'll disappoint. More as I continue to use it.

Chiming in again about the screen...off center it has a tint to it. Someone mentioned this at another site and I tested it. Now...those of use that used an LCD screen in recent years might have gotten used to it being washed out when viewing off center. If you didnt know it was washed out...there you go. It didnt bother you, you didnt notice it. Guess this is the pro of Amoled cuz its not washed out, just has a blue tint.

And I kinda feel bad mentioning Pentile and the RAZR, cuz now I have trouble focusing on, finding Pentile issues...lol I HAVE to see the other screens that use Pentile. Its so subtle on the RAZR you have to be a specific person or using it at a specific distance to see it.

And....I made a call from inside the apt. I think it has better reception than my DX1, which has amazing reception. Maybe the thinness of the phone helps with reception and makes you feel the warmth vs. other phones. There are some GS2 threads about it feeling warm and some ppl mentioned it might be due to the thinness of the GS2. As long as its not overheating it shouldnt be a problem.

And I also loved MrPenstripe's baby bottle analogy...lol. I got 2 kids, so I know exactly what you mean. And I cant scratch the back of the phone with my nail, or if I did I cant notice it. Some ppl might be mistaking scratching the back with scratching the plastic covering the back...lol. I did at first until I saw it tearing.. I thought "what kinda BS is THIS!?!? lol.

Forgot this, someone said their RAZR came with a Class 2 sd card? Mine came with a Class 4.

Lithium based batteries are usually stored at around 40% charge so maybe it actually hasn't discharged as much as you think.

I forgot to check when I tested a RAZR at the Verizon store, but I'm assuming that Moto is still going with 10% battery increments?

YEah, and even my widget reads in 10% increments. Without root, is there a way around this? Lame...

Still unsure on battery/condition (don't want to start the condition vs. non conditioning conversations. :) ) But so far, a great phone. I now have 13 days to decide if its this or the Nexus for the next 2 years, but this build quality and form factor are going to be hugely in favor of this phone...

First world Problem? Did I really just write that? Why didn't I delete it? Whay am I still typi...

Call quality. Crystal clear on both speaker phone and handset. No dropped calls. Great reception everywhere.

I can't say enough about how darn well built this thing is and how awesome it feels in hand lol. The RAZR is truly a marvel to own and look at.

2 people saw it today. One guy said "Wth is that?" told him the new RAZR. I handed it to him and he said "What?! Damn this thing is sick." as he swiped and pressed things not knowing wth he was doing lol. He couldn't get over how thin it was

The other guy knew what it was and said "No way. Wow. Man Look how thin it is" hahahahahaha

It's definitely very unique and people (2 so far) responded with "wows" and "damns" lol

Day 1. New device pixie dust or not, this one is a keeper. Not only does it perform stellar. It is by far the most unique smartphone ever released. Quad Core drops tomorrow I still keep it. It's that good.....

Woohoo! Mine arrived today...

Come on man....There is no perfect device! Personally, I get that your liking it bro, and that's a good thing!

However, your telling me (us, all of us) that there isn't a single downside to this phone.

No heating issues?
No screen issues with brightness, etc?
No issues with call volume?
No issues with the loose power button?
No issues with the camera focusing?

So none of the above?

Yea I forgot to mention thats the first thing my girlfriend said, how thin it was. And she loves my DX1. Now she wants this...she's actually thinking about coming to Verizon. Shes knows about Moto's radios from using my phones. I warned her about tiered data and the price of the plans. We will see if she does come.

I cant talk about anything else but what I already posted cuz I cant let it charge up all the way...it keeps calling me....what?? Oh..

Anyway...I did play Lets Golf. The speaker is definitely louder than the DX1. The fact that my DX1 is beat to hell makes it a throw away phone now. Even tho I feel this phone will survive my GF dropping it better than my DX1 did, she will NOT be using this anytime soon. Probably never use it...sorry boo boo. I might put a pic of my poor DX1 in the RAZR pic thread.

Notification light is fine, noticeable, to me anyway. I heard that was an issue with some folks with Bionics.

The only thing I want to know is how the 3G/4G handoff and overall connectivity is... I've loved my Bionic, but that issue alone is pushing me to the Razr. When that issue is bad, it's BAD. And always at the worst times... So is it holding it's data connection solid? Especially for those of you that have moved around a lot with it?

No heat, call volume was fine, power button is loose but not as bad as display unit was, screen is beautiful (not perfect ), 3pics I took had ZERO problems. When I tell you its "perfect" its "perfect"

Quotes denote that everything works as it should with no problems. Its solid. I can say (tonite) that this phone out of the box is stellar. Barring any problems the rest of the week I would have no problems recommending this phone to anyone. Motorola did it right this time around Sean.

So far so good. Its not going back. Its too unique. Very very pleased after a full day.

NOW is the best time to jump ship to Verizon. She can get 4 Gigs of monthly data for the price of 2 Gig. Ask rep for more details.

Sean there is one drawback to the RAZR......no keyboard :)

I actually like a keyboard but Im good..

Hmmmm? Making it tuff for me....lol

Well Arron from Phone Dog has his full review up, and its mainly positive!

Ok brother, I'm gonna grab one tomorrow and see what the fuss is about...hehehe.

No harm in putting it through the paces this weekend and giving it a whirl.

Peeps get ready...I'm gonna see if the Razr can really live up to this hype.

of course it is brother. he even mentions no overheating lol....man up and quit being a sissy about warmth lol

I know a good phone when I handle it and vice versa :)

ck did you ever lay hands on a Bionic?

and based on how you/y'all are talking, I'm assuming, so far anyway, the Razr has none of the issues the Bionic had... i.e. data connectivity, b.s.o.d., etc...

To be honest I spent about 10 minutes with the Bionic. If that :(
