Official Release Date Rumor Thread

man... this is almost as bad as waiting to see if we all die in 2012...haha.
I'm down here in Austin, theres gotta be a employee i can get a cheesy grin from on a release date. I'll try to stop by a store sometime today

This just in! hurricane Irene delays shipments to ATT stores! haha, jk, but that would suck

The only good news I bring is that the i777 I played with tonight does appear to be exynos...it scored in the 3100 range on quadrant and 55 mflops on linpack

I am trying to decifer other information about the processor that I gathered from the build prop etc.

it is definitely 1.2 dualcore...they tegra is 1.0 from what I understand.

the bad....

oct 2nd release is what I "gathered" tonight....but I seriously hope that is wrong. the phone is slated for q3 release and 10/2 is in q4 is it not?

I also got the transformers 3 info...but still hope that is only happening on the tmo gs2...

I really wish I had more info...but I don't. I got to play with it for a couple of hours but really didn't learn much new.

Well if that was the I777 then it was the slider phone that was rumored for AT&T about a month back. That is not supposed to be the Attain but the slider phone to be released after the Attain. It is good that it is exynos but the earlier shots of the phone showed an ICS kernel:). Did your observation show any information about the build or the kernel?

Yea, October seems a little too late.

Google is pushing up the release of ICS to combat the iPhone. Why would they debue ICS internationally in October (with an Nexus Prime) and wait months latter to get it to the US market?

If the release of ICS is to fight off iOS 5....then I expect them to release something in the states before the end of the year.

And IF thats the case, who would pick up the SGSII (after its been on the market for 3-4 months...a fair amount of time by android standards) with Gingerbread when weeks later a superior ICS phone made by the same manufacture is released?

Again, this is IF Google makes sure to get ICS to the American market around the same time iOS5 releases. IMO it just seems silly to rush up the launch of ICS to fight of iOS5 and only release it internationally when the majority of iPhone users are in the US.

i'm wondering what pricing on the version with the keyboard will be. i'm holding on to my upgrade just for this phone. any ideas?

I also think I-777 is non-slider Attain. I wonder how Ed got to play with it already.

The i-777 is the attain...not a slider and is the galaxy s 2 ...the other phone ....the i927 or whatever it is will be a slider....we already knew that as of a few weeks ago.

I took alot of notes but dont know that i grabbed a kernel info.

Lets just say I know a guy that knows a guy that met this dude that head something abkut this girl who knew someone that worked at Samsung.

Ics and prime are not scheduled for official release until late q4 from what i understand....which is christmas.

I cant wait to see what happens this weekend.. verizon was officislly slated for sept 8th release but may just wait on the prime....tmobile is rumored to be oct 26th..sprint sept 9th...att who knows....we have a window of 8/28-10-2 now

I seriously hope it is a matter of the two samsung phones getting confused.

Just called Customer Support at AT&T, spoke to an extremely nice guy that was willing to help dig a bit more. He's going to talk to his supervisor and do some research with the company on not only the Galaxy S2, but other high end releases as well.

ETA: Calling me back in 30 minutes. Let's hope for the best!

Holy turn of events! The company that was rumored to get the S2 first is now not getting it at all (Verizon). This was confirmed by Engadet. That should mean an early as possible release for AT&T then (would be crappy to have a big press conference on the 29th and make people wait more than a month to get the phone).

All I know is...come sunday the 28th I'm going to be watching this thread to see if any of you got lucky and picked up an early release SGS2.

If not...well then we all know what happens on monday and then we will all finally know the true plans.

How the heck did it go from being 8/28 to 10/2? If it actually doesn't come out until 10/2, i might as well wait for the Prime.

Here's what N6EAJ was talking about.

So now that Verizon isn't getting it at all, I would be shocked that a smaller carrier like t-mobile or sprint would get this earlier than AT&T. Maybe 10/2 was the release of a LTE GS2 or the slider varient.

Maybe this is why we haven't heard anything about "Function" in a while, but Stratosphere cropped up...yet nobody knew for sure what it was. I'm thinking it is not GS2 but its own entity. Or something. Going to head over to the Stratosphere forum and see what's up!

It was odd that none of the others had a name change..indicating the Function was dropped entirely, not just a name change.

I'm just back from stratosphere from after this horrible news on verizon not getting SGS2. A lot of folks over there are pissed off at this news. It still remains to be seen if they will have something better from Samsung in Q4. But I'm not holding my breath on it. I'm considering switch to AT&T or Sprint.

It's worth it if you don't have to pay a termination fee / have good coverage with AT&T or Sprint.

I'd go with Sprint, but there's no 4G coverage where I live.

I've heard rumors that they are trying to get ICS & Nexus Prime for as early as mid October and as late as December.

The mid October release makes sense if they are trying to match the iOS5 / iPhone 5 launch.

Also, the linked endgaget article references another Samsung phone with "similar" specs to be released in lieu of Verizon not getting the SGS2. It's been rumored that Verizon would get the Nexus Prime before any carrier....and the Prime will have similar specs (albiet a little better than the SGS2 in resolution & processor).

It's not outside the imagination that the "similar" Samsung phone to hit Verizon mid-October could be the Nexus Prime w/ ICS.

Which (again) begs the question, why pull the trigger on the SGS2 when many signs are pointing to better phones releasing weeks later?

This has been the year of cellphone chaos. Apple is at war with anyone that poses a threat, and has been successful getting the Galaxy Tab & SGS2 banned in Europe & Austraila. Everyone is off their product cycles and are holding information from the public until the absolute last minute.

I just picked up a Galaxy Tab 10.1 so I've got my new Android fix for now. I'm so fustrated with ALL the manufactures & carriers to the point where I just want to wait till 2012.

RajCaj, if I wasn't waiting for this phone so that I can switch to AT&T and join my sister's family plan and save $50/mo, I would wait. My current phone is a year old also. Still a great phone, but I like getting new stuff. ;)

If that's the case, I can forgive this crap of them not getting SGS2. But still there is no confirmation on that, though not surprising for verizon. Or they might have just scrapped 3G SGS2 and will release 4G LTE version like Celox leaked a few weeks ago.

But if things don't pan out like that and Prime hits only AT&T or Sprint, I'm done with Verizon. I'm so fed up with their love affair with Apple, Moto these days putting everything else in dust.

So I've called seven different att stores and all have said the same thing, they don't know anything about a phone called attain or a galaxy s2 phone coming out. How much linger will I be stuck using my carpy iPhone 3GS? Lol
