Official Release Date Rumor Thread

I just came back from Costco - the price is $129.99. They said it has never been $20 at Costco. Thanks for wasting my time.
I'm glad they told you that, but in the Union NJ store it was $19.99. Call them. Was marked "In Store Special." The display had $19.99 on it and there was a separate sign with $19.99.

In their latest mailer catalog it's $70.00 off for new activation and $60 off for line 1 upgrade. Maybe if I can climb over the downed limbs tomorrow I'll go take a photo if it hasn't already ended.

Here is the catalog coupon with $70/$60 off the $129 price but the instore deal was better.

N/P .... just came back from Costco. The Infuse sale was for 7 days only, ended sometime last week. Today the INSPIRE is FREE with a new account and $9.99 with an upgrade. The kiosk manager says it changes every week and SHOULD be national through all Costco's.

Today AT&T (online) has the refurb Infuse for $9.99.

"On a side note, Samsung recently unveiled an upgraded Galaxy S2 for the rest of the world. It is faster and bigger than its predecessor (1.5GHz dual-core processor, 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display) and is called the Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE due to its 4G LTE antenna."
So while they unveil our gs2 variant, the rest of the world gets an upgraded version. This sucks.

If that is the case (I'm thinking so) I wonder what LTE Bands it will be and if it would be compatible with AT&T once LTE goes live.

Hey guys, I'm a longtime normal-cell phone user looking to get this awesome looking smartphone when it comes out. I'm just wondering if the samsung attain is going to be able to upgrade to the new android ice cream sandwich OS when it comes out in a few months. Also thanks Mr. Ed for causing me to constantly check this thread for rumors.

So I just saw this today...

latimesblogs.latimes.com/technology/2011/08/samsung-galaxy-tab-89-lte-galaxy-s-ii-lte.html

Now, I'm officially confused. Was this the big announcement? I'm about to give up on this phone! Now they are saying Verizon may get the upgraded 4g LTE version.

It says the release date is EXPECTED to be announced during the IFA conference which is Sept 2-7. If they are announcing the date Sept 2-7 AND no carriers even have the phone yet....I really feel like that Oct. 2 date is looking more and more realistic. In my opinion, the very best at this point would be late September.

I'm losing hope, may have to pick up another phone for now.

Welcome, your in familiar company LOL

As for the Attain getting ICS....no one knows for sure. Things are "supposed" to be different with ICS, than previous versions of android.

Previously, when a new version of Android became available....the update had to be sent down to the hardware manufacture and/or carrier so that they can make their final touches.

Because new Android phones come out so often, most manufactures and/or carriers would prefer to just focus on the new phone coming around the bend...instead of spending the time to make sure that the new version of Android works with the older hardware.

Supposedly, ICS is supposed to unify the fragmented Android market. It's not only going to bring tablets & phones together....its going to also be available to older hardware configs....and WITH a more streamlined release schedule than they have had previously.

So judging by past performance, I wouldn't hold your breath on an update any time soon. HOWEVER, this ICS thing is supposed to be different than past performances...so take it with a grain of salt.

IMO....since its a dual core processor (and ICS was written to be optimized for multi-threading), I'd say it gets the update...but not sure when.

The Infuse, on the other hand, may not make it out of Froyo....which is ashame for a top spec phone released 3-4 months ago.

I think it will be more than those two announcements...

Maybe LATimes only picked up on those two models because they are new to the product line. All the info we had was that the SGSII wasn't getting LTE, and now it looks like it is -- news. Also, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 & 7" have been out for a while now.....so I guess the 8" is -- news.

Why in the heck you make an exact copy of the tablets & split the screen size difference is bizzare to me. Why the heck you would release an several month old phone at the same time as iPhone 5 (and potentially better Android phones) is also bizzare to me.

I'm just tired of waiting months and months lol. I need a solid date. I'm not going to pay 600 bucks for a phone with no official warranty either. What's the news now? October November December January lol.

the sgh-i927-are we thinking that's the rumored 2nd at&t variant of the s2? or a completely different phone? i have my eye on it solely because of the keyboard. the only phone at&t currently offers that has both a keyboard and android is the pantech crossover, which just does not appeal to me. i have an impact right now, and it's ok, but it does get glitchy and likes to shut itself off randomly at least once a day. i don't mind waiting for the sgh-i927, whatever it may be, but now i've got all this anticipation built up. i'm hoping the sgh-i927 will be released at the same time (at this point, if not before) the attain-do you think this is unreasonable?

Same here...I'm actually supprised there hasn't been any leaked info considering all the folks that are involved in such an event.

How is it impossible to stop leaks from the government, copies of Avatar, and copies of Lil Wayne's new CD from getting out....

Yet we can't get a shred of information of a cell phone manufacture press event that WAS supposed to happen today, but is being held tomorrow!!!

Actually, this goes for the whole cell phone industry. How is it that cell phone companies have become better at keeping secrets than our government, and media industries that live & die by intellectual propery rights. LOL

Been running Gingerbread on my Infuse on and off for a couple weeks now. If you root it's not a problem. There is supposed to be an official update "soon" (allegedly this month ).

As for the Attain, I have an upgrade burning a hole in my wallet for close to 5 months. It was going to be the Attain but I am having a mostly hate relationship with the Samsung GPS on 2 different phones so the new HTC is starting to look pretty good as long as they don't lock the bootloader to prevent rooting as they have been doing on all their recent devices. I've waited so long I can wait a couple more months.

Oh BTW, I just saw that the AT&T website is now offering refurbished Infuse for $19.99. No need to go to Costco.
Well, Costco is 90 day return/exchange/get a new model policy and 1 yr warranty, AT&T refurbs are 30 day warranty and no returns.

It's moot anyway because the Costco sale has ended.

I saw a youtube video recently comparing the Infuse to the GSII. In one case the Infuse took longer than the GSII to get a gps lock, but they were both a hell of a lot faster than my Captivate. In another, the GSII got a lock very quickly indoors, while the Infuse just kept searching. My hope is that with the Attain, perhaps the gps will finally be good enough not to be an issue.

Let's just end it all here... This phone is never coming out.

It's the eve of The Announcement ... and I have to say, this sums up my feelings pretty well. I've only been following this thing hot an' heavy for about 6 weeks and I'm exhausted and demoralized, especially with all of the rumors concerning the SGSII+ starting to surface. I'm still really looking forward to the phone, but my insane fanboy momentum is definitely gone. And that's a huge loss for Sammy and AT&T.

Still seems to be a problem with the ones purchased in EU.

I thought I had read the court said if they installed android 3.0 on the phones they could sell them.
3.0 (Honeycomb) is a tablet only O/S. Doubt you'll ever see that on phones. Phones & Tablets O/S will eventually merge to a single O/S when ICS comes out.
