yes, it takes a bare account, upgrades it to an unlimited 2g data plan since that is the only one offered for Iphone 2g (it works because it is a smartphone data plan, whereas the $15 regular phone unlimited plan wont work because to be grandfathered in, you have to switch between smartphone unlimited plans ie: blackberry to iphone)
 
The iphone trick works....you have to have an iphone 2g, a pc with itunes and an internet connection.


as far as i know it still works ;)
 
So are we starting to think that the September 18th release date is not going to happen now? I watched the live press event and I believe September 18th was mentioned there so that is where all the press people got the release date. I want this phone now!

I think the 18th is the most feasable date so far. It was mentioned (leaked?) at the announcement....and a few sites are reporting it as official.

If it releases in October, it will be DOA for folks that aren't beholden to AT&T....or Android for that matter.

The iPhone 5 will be dropping 2nd - 3rd week of October on AT&T, and Verizon should be getting Samsung's Nexus Prime w/ ICS right about then too.

If I weren't grandfathered into AT&T's unlimited data plan....I'd jump ship to BIG RED....and quite frankly, I haven't completely ruled out the iPhone5.

The only other Samsung phone that I know of that AT&T is rummored to get by the end of the year is that ginormous 5" screen one that is queued up for Q4.

What other Samsung options will we have on AT&T by the end of the year?

I spoke to my guy at the AT&T store, he does the stocking and said that if it were coming out the 18th he would know by Wednesday. Well, I called today and he said "that phones not coming out this weekend". I hope he is mistaken, or has been sworn to secrecy.
 
I am guessing the Galaxy Note is going to be priced more in the Tablet range rather than the phone range. So if you are holding out for that one you better grab on to your pocket book.
 
Well that is a bummer. I have three upgrades. 1 due now and 2 available on 10/22. I wonder if I should get the Thrill and then I have 30 days when I can return it for the S2 if it is released. I just need to get off my Captivate with it's crrappppy GPS.

On the other hand, is the S2 going to be $199 or $299 on contract? If $299, I might just pony up the cash for the international version. I like the physical home key anyways.
 
If AT&T is going to release it on the 18th, you would think they would want to make that announcement before the 16th (Sprint release). That way AT&T customers not in a contract would be less likely to jump ship on the 16th (or anyone else considering ATT).

The person at the Samsung NY announcement that said the 18th for ATT (I remember seeing this in one of the videos) was a Samsung employee and not AT&T? At this point, I would settle for a solid release date even if it is October 2nd. I spend way too much time Googling and digging on the internet looking for info.

Exactly. As much as I want it to come out this weekend I'm getting skeptical. I guess we will see in the next few days. Because what's the point of a "sign up page" for updates if you don't get any until the day before it's going on sale. I could wait a couple more weeks if they at least gave me a date so I can spend less time on this website and Google looking for rumors. :mad:
 
I still stand by my release date of NEVER. All of us are part of a big test that Samsung is conducting to see how obsessed people get over a phone. We're all just their guinea pigs, maaaaaan! We never made it to the moon, and 9/11 was caused by aliens... You get where I'm going with this...
 
They are making some huge mistakes with this phone.

1. No release date for AT&T yet. I am still contemplating jumping to Sprint as I'm sure others will be doing as well.

2. It's getting awfully close to iPhone 5 time. I may go to the iPhone 5 if it's announced before this phone comes out.
 
Okay I broke down and bought the LG Thrill 4G. Its a nice little machine. Fixes all the crap I hated about my Cappy (working great gps, flash, front camera, dual core). I dont care about the 3D crap. but other than froyo, this is a nice machine. Even ahd some generic rectangular screen protectors that work on it.

*IF* the S 2 comes out within 30 days, I may return it for that. However, I still have an upgrade available on 10/22.

ALSO talking to the guy at the store, he said they had a store "refresh" happening on the 18th. What that means is a lot of the signage is changed out and usually only happens for a new launch of a phone. He also said there hadn't been a refresh since July. So there is a good chance that the phone does indeed arrive on or around the 18th.

That is a good sign although we know that AT&T is getting the Acer Inconia tablet, Huawei Impulse 4G phone, and the $25 GoPhone plan all on September 18th. None of those seem big enough to warrant a "refresh" though so hopefully it is for the SG2.
 
For the record.....transformers 3 releases in 16 days ;)

I don't want a damn movie, just give me the phone! Honestly, if that's what's keeping AT&T from putting the phone out, I may switch to the evil red empire... Actually, I could never go back to Verizon, they're the worst phone company I've ever been with, hands down. But seriously, all I'd do is delete the stupid movie... The first two sucked (emphasis on SUCKED for the second one), so holding us back for another bad movie? C'mon...

Isn't AT&T also getting the Sony slider w/ gamepad?
