Official Release Date Rumor Thread

I see the Xperia Play being a slightly more successful Nokia N-Gage. It's a fine idea and all, but just not seeing it take off.

It has its own niche and will serve them well. i would actually be interested for my son if they were not so far behind (hardware wise)

plus saving that last upgrade for xmas

sammy has officially turned in his sgs2.....now has a celox. :) further celox info to be posted in that forum

with him turning it in today i and review sites getting on hand devices i would say we are still looking at 2 weeks till release

I agree. At this point I've pretty much accepted a last week of Sept/first week of Oct launch.

With basically zero evidence besides some "he said she said" stuff, I just can't see how the SGS2 would be available on AT&T this sunday. I hope I'm wrong but very much doubt it.

I still think its utter BS though.

Sadly it is looking more like October 2nd. I wish ATT would just tell us.

Even with Sprint's less friendly trial-return policy that starts on Friday (coincidence?), it might be worth getting one there for an interim phone. If one could find a Epic Touch 4G for sale today while Sprint still offers the 30 day "Sprint Free Guarantee", it would be a no-brainer to pick one up.

Confirmed...Celox on ATT, 4.5" screen, LTE, and a processor that "feels" slower than the SGS2. Also appears to have weak reception.

I have yet to hold in hand so we will see.

So I can purchase a more "performant" Sammy Galaxy in the SGSII in Oct, or I can wait and get a less performant Sammy Galaxy w/ LTE (and .2 more inches) in December?

*Palm to the forehead*

Instead of spending all that money on additonal overhead associated with getting slightly different models approved by governing bodies, manufactured, and supported.......how about doing all the consumers a solid and put the best tech available in the phones instead of splitting it out. LOL

Are there any other Samsung phones scheduled to release on AT&T in Q4?

none that are top tech that I am aware of...but they have a crap ton of devices coming out over the next 8 months from what I hear.

the celox is actually prior tech to the sgs2 from what I heard.

keep in mind I still haven't held this device or put it through tests and benchmarks. It has a 1.5 ghz processor in it...the guy just says it feels slower.

I won't have the opportunity to do so until next week at the soonest....

So this is what the release has come to eh?

Us getting so bored and tired of waiting that we spend most of one page in this forum discussing a different phone.

Ohh i see....the info posted here....

Shows 1200MHz.....didn't know it was a 1.5. Even still, with as powerful & popular the Enyox processor is....I just can't understand why you'd muddy the waters like that for your consumers. Its confusing as hell to be an Android phone buyer.

With all that said, I appreciate the hands on and any info you're able to get.

EDIT: On a second note, I'd LOVE to understand why Samnsung would chose NOT to open up LTE on AT&T on a 5 month old flagship phone like the SGSII, and instead open up the LTE market on a phone with older technology. Would your contact be privy to that sort of info?

Every business bone in my body is shaking its proveribal fist at Samsung LOL

What other Samsung options will we have on AT&T by the end of the year?
sgh-i927. I really hope they change the name, "Gidim" sounds ridiculous. According to that leaked roadmap, it's supposed to be out this month but there haven't been any announcements yet that I know of. I thought maybe since it was rumored to be a GS2 variant it would come out at the same time. Dunno though. I think there were some others on that roadmap but that's the only one I care about. :p

Nice, so a little googling tells me that's the SGS2 LTE.

Has LTE and the full monty 4.5" screen. So it's much better than the Attain imo.

Edit: Hmm, if that Mr Ed spec sheet is right it uses a Snapdragon not Exynos, which would be a small fly in the ointment. We'll see though.

Why cant ATT ever just hit one out of the park on phones? Theres always some caveat (only 4.3 on the Attain, Snapdragon on the Celox, and so on). It's getting on my nerves.

Still, I think a "slightly less good CPU", especially when clocked higher at 1.5 ghz, is more palatable than a smaller screen, which I wont accept. This might still be a buy.

To be fair, its not just AT&T....this phone is equiped with the 800MHz LTE bands...meaning its also hitting Korea & European LTE networks.

I think i read somewhere that the initial benchmarks weren't as good as the SGSII, and Ed's contact said it "felt" a little slower than the SGSII.

It's possible, despite the Exynos processor only being 1.2GHz, that the SGSII processor is more performant than the 1.5GHz Snapdragon Celox.

But I'm right with you.....why not just get all the bells and whistles that people like in their super phones and put it all in one package? Instead they release this stuff piece meal in a way that doesn't neccessarily mean that the "newer" phone is better than the previous.

Samsung needs a little Lean Sigma in their life.

At&t isn't ready for LTE...it's available in what....3 markets? I don't think we can blame Sammy for that... plus consider a complete internal hardware redesign (ok so maybe not a big deal) but the SGS2 has already been delayed sooo much...why delay it more....

That is all we could come up with but we agree...why not just one killer device?

I have actually always loved the Snapdragon...It always scores lower...but typically multitasks much better.

I can't wait to get my hands on that one

LTE isn't big now....but we sign 2 year contracts on these phones. As a consumer, I'm thinking about what the availability will be 1 & 2 years from now.

I'd feel left out the party if I purchased a non-LTE phone 2-6 weeks before a similar LTE phone was released and 1 year down the road I can't take advantage of the expanding LTE networks. I'll have to wait out my 2 year contract to get that capability (or spend more money for an early upgrade).

And for the wait on the SG2 (especially the AT&T version).....what exactly was the wait for? Adding the 4 capacitive buttons? All that time and overhead spent on all these variants (further fragmenting the market...and creating app dev hell for developers) could have been used to maye get that Celox out a month or two earlier.

No instead....Samsung feels the need to kick up a whole new production cycle for .2" more screen size, and slightly curvier casing. They also feel the need to "almost" duplicate existing phones with slightly lower grade parts with higher tech functionality (LTE).

All the designing, testing, and manufacturing of all these different versions take time and money.....time & money that could have been used to create a super phone that could have been released earlier.

And this goes further than the phones by the way. Samsung now has a 10.1" tablet, 8.9" tablet, 7" tablet, and a pending new 5" phone / tablet hybrid. All (except the pending Galaxy Note) have similar specs...just different form factors & versions of Android.

Now that I've COMPLETELY derailed the conversation......I just wanted to thank you again for giving us feedback on the test. If it can handle multitasking as well as you say....I'd be up for it.

The Celox was actually designed prior to the SGS2 (at least that is what I am told)

further updates (and discussion) really should take place In the Celox threads

Hello all I have been lurking for months here. I am also waiting for the attain. (If it ever comes out:(

Take it for what it is worth.

I was at my local best buy taking care of some other business and I went over and talked to the cellular dept. I asked when is the sg2 coming out for At&T?

She said she is not sure about the at&t one but the sprint epic 4g touch will be available tomorrow to buy there. I so I asked are they here and she said yeah there in stock ready to go. I asked what is the price she said she didn't know. I asked have you received a lot of calls about it she said no.

And I asked was there a floor model she said no they haven't put the marketing stuff out yet. I asked her if I come here tomorrow I can buy it and she said yeah.

So hurray for sprint people.
