Official Release Date Rumor Thread

Disclaimer: I have no connections in the business... I just pay attention to what people say.

I was at BestBuy this weekend looking at stuff, and I wandered into the phone area to check out what is already out. I asked the rep there when they would get the GS2 and she said she didn't know yet. I continued to browse and ask her questions about the AT&T phones because I am genuinely torn between getting an Atrix for $49 or waiting for the GS2 at what I assume will be a much higher price.

As we spoke, she turned to her floor manager for advice, and he joined the conversation. At one point he advised me to wait to at least look at the Attain because it was a beast. He said that he'd just gone to be trained on the phone two days earlier and had gotten to play with a live unit. The first rep was surprised that he'd already trained on the new phone, and the manager told her that she knows how the drill goes... the floor reps don't find out release dates until the very last minute.

So maybe the release is imminent... I dunno... but what I heard convinced me to at least wait to see this "super phone".

Yea...if its not an emergency and you've waited this long...your sort of pot committed to see what rolls out in the cell phone whirlwind that will be October.

50 bucks is nice, but your stuck with it for 2 years...might as well wait a few more weeks to see what your missing. Hell....the Attrix might be free by then LOL

But once again...keep the direct line of communication w/ the customers in the dark till the last minute?!? I just don't understand. It's one of those marketing phenomina that baffles all conventional wisdom like why all used car commercials HAVE to be loud and obnoxious.

People wonder why there isn't much fanfare about this phone....why people are either completely ignorant or just dont' care about this BEAST of a phone...should be no suprise when the people SELLING the phone dont even know that they are getting it weeks from launch! HAHA

Did anyone see that they are doing a sweepstakes on the E! Online website?? They are giving away a GS2 and they PICK the winner on October 24th..

Does anything think this has anything to do with the release date

Could you be more specific and give us a link?

I sure hope it has nothing to do with the release.

While the promotion may be telling of when folks might expect the SGS2 to be available....I highly doubt the phone's release date has been pushed to accomodate a promotion event with Entertainment TV.

I was reading up on the AT&T forums and someone made a point about AT&T pushing the release after the iPhone launch...NOT because of some secret backdoor deal done w/ Apple & AT&T to stick it to Samsung......but because they are afraid that the iPhone 5 launch will prompt many of the SGS2 users to return the phone within the aloted 30 day return policy.

Some will return for the iPhone 5.....but a mass exodus of people returning their SGS2 for an iPhone to the point that your pushing the launch into the 3rd or 4th week of October? I don't think so. But as Ed pointed out....I'm not making millions as a cell phone exec...

Do you guys think that it's exclusive on Sprint until the 2nd of October?

Sprint is offering $125 if you port your number to them until the 1st of October. Maybe this is why AT&T hasn't released a date yet.

Has anyone heard anything about sgh-i927 lately? I google it by both that name and "Samsung Gidim" every day hoping to find a release date. According to that roadmap, it was supposed to be released this quarter.
I know that it turned out to not be a Galaxy phone per se, but do you think there's any chance of it being released around the same time as the Attain? Or has it just fallen off the face of the earth?

Interesting theory and it is probably one of the few I have read that has some "business" logic to it. Not that I believe it of course. ;) Having spent many many years before I retired working in the Fortune 50 as a mid level exec I have never seen anything that simple and logical be a fact. :)

More than likely because the Emmy's was just 2 days ago and they want the contest to run for a few weeks.

PRIZE: One (1) Grand Prize: The Grand Prize consists of (i) one Fendi Mia Fendi Pochette, Approximate Retail Value ["ARV"] of $760.00 and (ii) one Samsung Galaxy S II cellular phone, ARV of $200.00. Total approximate retail value of the Grand Prize is $960.00.

ARV of $200! Probably comes with a 2 year contract. :o:eek:

Does this mean I can go to the AT&T store today and get an Infuse and exchange it for the Samsung Galaxy S II when it comes out? I just dropped my iphone and cracked its screen today so I'm definitely ready for an upgrade lol..

I don't know all the specifics, but yea...

I wouldn't do it at AT&T though....they will charge you a restocking fee. I went to Best Buy in late July and picked up an Infuse to replace my iPhone 3G.

After purchasing the phone....I started doing research on Android and found out that the Galaxy S 2 was coming in the next month or so......so I rode out my 30 return policy @ Best Buy and brought it back. They canceled my contract and went back to status quo before the upgrade. No restocking fee....but they did tell me that I wouldn't be able to do another exchange / return. So I've been limping along on my old iPhone 3G since.

I almost picked up an Infuse this Sunday after SGSII was a no-show. I asked the sales person (AT&T corporate store) what would happen if I wanted to bring the Infuse back because the SGSII came out. He said they would charge a $35 restocking fee. My iPhone 4 is working fine so I decided to suck it up and wait, but if you are phone-less or looking through a cracked screen it might be worth $35 to "rent" the Infuse.

Now that the 18th has come and gone and I see good evidence for October 2nd (or maybe before), my obsession has subsided. I am only checking the forum a few times a day instead of every hour.

Thanks for posting this, but I am not sure I would put too much on "New rumors speculate that the release date of Galaxy S2 may wait until after Apple's iPhone 5 rolls out." Rumors and speculation had half of the news web sites reporting September 18th too.

Yeah that "news story" is quoting random forum posts. And we all know how reliable THEY can be (though more reliable than the random AT&T tier-1 moron you get when calling 611 on your phone).

Hey IBT: The SGSII will be out before the IP5. You can quote ME on THAT.

Just FYI, if you purchase with American Express card they will refund your restocking fee under their buyer satisfaction policy. I've used it with a cell phone without problem.

Just wondering....why aren't you guys switching to Sprint and getting the Epic 4G Touch? Their plans are a lot cheaper (I pay $80/mo. plus an 18% discount for unlimited internet, messaging, gps nav, and unlimited calls to any cell phone) and their customer service is pretty good.

From my experience the cell service with Sprint (in DC area) has been far better than AT&T's. Is it just the phone itself with the 4.3 inch screen with AT&T that you like better? Or is it that Sprint doesn't have coverage in your areas?

The Epic Touch is pretty amazing. My buddy brought his over for me to play with today.

As for why I am no longer with Sprint (12 yr customer. I left in August)

This is the best answer I can give you

I have unlimited everything on Att...and pay $45/month :P

Att has Sprints family plans beat hands down, and their network is far more stable (at least here in Dallas, TX)

Same here. I have always heard Sprint was cheaper, but it was going to cost at least $25/month more for the Sprint family plan (two smart phones and a dumb phone) compared to AT&T (already including 10% off Sprint for being a AAA member) No, it isn't quite a apples to apples (don't have unlimited texting, but we have more than enough texts for two adults). I also already know what I am getting with AT&T. Their 3G coverage in San Diego county is pretty good.

I think All At&t family plan customers received unlimited texting upgrade last week, and unlimited mobile to mobile ....check your account
