Official Release Date Rumor Thread

Buwahahahahahahah! :D

Now I want to see what he gives me as a release date for the Celox.

So the iphone..is that rumor or hard release date...

like I mentioned before...with the Celox (the phone Sammy is testing now) and the Holiday right around the corner, it just seems silly to buy the Attain at this point. (unless you like the smaller screen and have no LTE)

currently his testing comparison is that the Celox is having far less random issues than the Attain did, but that the processor "feels" slower.

I still have no been able to meet up and try it out.

Apple Set To Unveil IPhone 5 On Oct. 4, Sources Say | Fox News

Announcement on 10/4 with a followup release 1-2 weeks later

Halarious that the guy's brother that works for AT&T got the same update around the same time it was posted on Twitter. Is that how AT&T is getting information to their sales force now? LOL

I mentioned engadget to a co-worker who asked what that was. I went to their website to show them and nearly fell out of my chair when I saw the Oct 2nd release date confirmed there. I almost had tears of joy ;)

It's the only way to keep the info from leaking, but it pretty much lines up with prior releases..they have a week 1/2 to train.

anyone else notice every new device over the last three weeks or so has been announced on a wed?

they are pretty consistent with wed announce and sunday releases it appears

Understood...but I go back to my argument of how much time does it really take for a competing company to take leaked info and react.

And when I say react..I mean get the leaked info, work it into your current design, pilot test, put into production, and stick it on the shelf to sell.

If Apple, HTC, etc. can do ALL that in 3-4 weeks.....then I stand corrected. But if this whole process takes 3-4 months (I think it takes longer than that, but just to be on the conservative side)....then whats the harm in letting people know something 1 month in advance?

Again..no expert here in cell phone manufacturing, just waxing philosophically on business / marketing logistics.

Well Mr. Ed....congrats man. You was right all along.

Thank God we have a date.

Now the only thing left to do between now and then is keep our eyes open for pre-order or special pricing.

Agreed mostly....but this phone for example has been out in testing for months.. .i would have to check dates but it was at least august 7 when i first got to see it.

software can be changed in such a short time and if you havent played with touchwiz 4 its pretty awesome....i could see wanting to hide that.

but announce the release....just keep those things top secret....its what we all want but i could see why it would be difficult to give a release date months in advace but keep the specs and features secret....

i could also see sprint having some other agreement as mentioned.... they got it first, as agreed, and marketed that softly with their current port your number promo

Oct 2nd is now the new semi official date according to AC. They pulled that from the twitter account of AT&T

AT&T's Galaxy S II will be available Oct. 2 for $199 on contract | Android Central
"SemiOfficial" is the key word here. :) It's probably accurate (I have agreed with the other Mr. Ed's prediction of that date from the beginning despite all the other tin-foil hat predictions from "people who know people") but all the sites (like Engadget) do is regurgitate what they see or is reported on Twitter or FB, they don't always get "inside" information.

if you were involved with the Infuse tweet AT&T posted that Gingerbread would be released for that device August (and was also posted by Engadget and all the rest of the blogs) then recanted it as an "error" by an AT&T employee you might be just a tiny bit skeptical about this although this seems very logical.

Geeez ... AT&T's website still says "Coming Soon" not coming 10/2 on the link they posted in their tweet. http://t.co/NV3dX6wi They need to update that fast.

Bad move for this phone though. I will definitely be waiting for the iPhone announcement to see which I'll buy now whereas I would have bought this instantly if it was sooner.

Agree. I'm pretty sure specs will be very similar. If the iPhone doesn't have 1080p vido recording then I will go with sgsii; otherwise, I'm pretty sure I'm going back to iOS. Android is too fast paced any phone you buy can give you buyers remorse because the next greatest thing will be a few weeks away.

LOL ... I was just coming to post that same link.

It's finally officially official.

Now I have to decide if I still want it.

I think I'm gonna stick with it, especially since AT&T will probably never use it's full data potential anyways. My tilt 2 doesn't even reach its full potential. Why pay an extra fee for LTE that will still be in 3.5G area? Besides I just bought my Samsung TV with allshare, I'm ready to use it, and bet IF AT&T does get the Prime, it will be delayed just like this phone was... and I'm tired of thick phones ;)

Think of it this way. How many months after the International SGS2 came out did it take the US (and AT&T) to get the phone?

How many months will it take for the US to get an LTE version with the international LTE versions not yet available? How many months will it take to get AT&T LTE in your market?

How many months after the Nexus drops on Verizon will it take for an AT&T version?

The only thing I could see waiting for would be a Holiday, but that's just NOW announced internationally. Could still be 3+ months away from a US release. "Before the end of the year" is still a long time away.

Exactly...Personally I am not going to bother waiting for anything because I don't think we are going to see anything before Q1 2012. AT&T is not going to release a phone and then turn around a month later and make it obsolete. They are going to suck that well until it is dry and then replace it. I do think we are going to start seeing stuff Q1, but nothing that overshadows the GS2 before then. Personally the only competition I think the GS2 is going to see this year is the HTC Holiday. It doesn't overshadow it though. They are both very similarly specd.

Well, they DID just release the Thrill 3 weeks ago. That being said, the Thrill has its own niche in the 3D ability.
personally I would not put the Thrill 4G in the same category :P outdated OS, New memory management system but only 512 RAM. Xperia ARC is a questionable device, kinda borderlines with the Thrill, but although it's a beautiful device it will come in as a mid level phone if we get it at all since they waited so long. It's not a high end phone if it comes out at $99. It simply sets itself aside from the rest

Yes but I don't think you could say that the GS2 severely overshadows the Thrill for several reasons. The first being the Thrill is half the price with only slightly lower specs. The only thing I can really fault the Thrill on is RAM and thickness. Now on the other hand if something like say the Nexus Prime came out who in their right mind would touch a GS2? It wouldn't even be a contest. The GS2 and Thrill trade blows, but something like the Prime would be a win across the board.

i guess you guys are all better at hassling at&t than me. :p
just got off the phone with a rep about staying with my unlimited data when i upgrade to a smartphone (can't be done, he said) and improving coverage at my house (nothing he can do about that, he said. apparently there's not a tower within 10 miles of my house. i was angling for a microcell and even asked about it. his recommendation-buy it and try it out.)
poo. i always feel bad about hassling customer service, as someone who works in retail myself.

if you have a non-smartphone data plan, you can't switch over to a smartphone unlimited data plan (you might if you keep hounding them, just dont cuss or get rude cause they will hang up on you :P)
if you have a smartphone data plan you can still keep it

My dad got his microcell by BSing some story about how he only uses his cell phone as a house line, and he runs his business from home. He also said the service is horrible and can't rely on it, etc. etc. All BS, but he got it for free. Just call in enough and be polite, have a good story, and you'll get one.

If you haven't used a thrill for more than a day or two don't knock it.

it is more than capable, mamages ram better than any other device I have used and is quite a bit less buggy than that S2 i got to play with. Not to mention it beat the S2 in every benchmark I put the phones through. supposedly it gets its update to GB next week

as for LTE ....it went live here in Dallas last week. 25mbps dload is worth the wait for me. that is what we are seeing so far anyway
