Official Release Date Rumor Thread

If you haven't used a thrill for more than a day or two don't knock it.

it is more than capable, mamages ram better than any other device I have used and is quite a bit less buggy than that S2 i got to play with. Not to mention it beat the S2 in every benchmark I put the phones through. supposedly it gets its update to GB next week

as for LTE ....it went live here in Dallas last week. 25mbps dload is worth the wait for me. that is what we are seeing so far anyway

and then AT&T throttles your speed for using "too much' and then where do you sit? right back down to 3-5. Your actually seeing 25? or thats what AT&T says it will do with no other phone connected to that tower?

edit: Ah, sir colby, you beat me to it ;)

i guess you guys are all better at hassling at&t than me. :p
just got off the phone with a rep about staying with my unlimited data when i upgrade to a smartphone (can't be done, he said) and improving coverage at my house (nothing he can do about that, he said. apparently there's not a tower within 10 miles of my house. i was angling for a microcell and even asked about it. his recommendation-buy it and try it out.)
poo. i always feel bad about hassling customer service, as someone who works in retail myself.

They can do it and I believe they have to if you ask. If they refuse speak to a supervisor. I believe their CEO stated everyone could be grandfathered. Worse case use the iPhone 2 trick.

I think I'm gonna stick with it, especially since AT&T will probably never use it's full data potential anyways. My tilt 2 doesn't even reach its full potential. Why pay an extra fee for LTE that will still be in 3.5G area? Besides I just bought my Samsung TV with allshare, I'm ready to use it, and bet IF AT&T does get the Prime, it will be delayed just like this phone was... and I'm tired of thick phones ;)
My decision is between the AT&T and the T-Mobile versions with the iPhone 5 in 3rd place.

I've slightly debated getting the IPhone, since we are supposed to be getting IPads for work here in the next month, and would allow me to sync better with all my calendar/mail since they really only support BB and Iphone for our exchange. but supposedly this phone will do vpn and all that jazz, I think the issue lies with lack of certificates my company has for android. All in all, I've dissed apple for the majority of my life, and that will just be time wasted if I give in now ;)

even if i have a dumbphone? the rep said i'd have to change to a smartphone plan.

Kernel Source was just dropped for ATT SG II. Impressive! We should have root and other goodies available for when we bring our phones home on Sunday!

No, you need an original iPhone 2G. There's even a guy on eBay who would do it for you for $50 using his iPhone 2 if you can't find one (isn't capitalism great). I think "the other Mr. Ed" posted a link to the guy a while back.

The "iPhone 2G trick" still works but the old dumb-phone trick, from what I understand, is dead.

They switched my iPhone 4 unlimited plan to my current Infuse with just a little hassle. If you don't currently have an unlimited smartphone plan your option is only the iPhone 2G trick. The only reason I kept the unlimited was because I get 25% off on my FAN and it is only $6 more than the 200MB plan which they do not discount. I rarely use over 200MB. Maybe 1 month out of the last 28.

Throttling occurs with heavy usage (over 5gb) and that hasnt been made official yet

i rarely use that much

and yes....20-25 is what I am actually seeing on the current devices. They advertise 28

I see. I'll probably go with the 2 GB just to be safe. I'm not sure how much I use on average lol.

Haha, i get throttled sometimes without even hitting 5gb ;)

I got all excited. Then I googled it and found out it's not this Sunday, but next. Not that it matters for me, anyway, since I'm not planning on getting the GS2. But I've been following this forum since early August, so I might as well see it through.

i'm going to have to call bs on your benchmarks. every quadrant i've seen run on stock firmware the SII beat the Thrill by at least 1000+

edit: that doesn't even take into account the thrashing it gets with Linpack

I just received an automated email, from a site that I must have signed up for last month: Here is what it says:

"Hello,
Samsung recently announced the Galaxy S II for AT&T, and a release is imminent. AT&T says it'll launch the handset October 2 for $199.99 too. Sprint and T-Mobile's versions include slightly bigger screens and 4G connectivity, and AT&T's remains 3G only. Sprint's version lacks NFC hardware, though most people don't know what that is or what it's for. T-Mobile's version lands in late October.
We've also updated the Galaxy S II for AT&T product page, so check it out and learn something new about the handset you crave."

Based on previous posts here, I assume the Oct. 2 date is probably accurate, but what about the comment - "AT&T's remains 3G only"? That HAS to be a mistake, right???

depends. hspa+ isn't REALLy really 4g they just decided they were going to call it 4g cause tmob was.

i think the 4g they're referring to is LTE

It's awesome that we have a release date.
But... any ideas what will be in the box? I guess headphones and... that's it.

if they continue like they did with the infuse then they'll probably throw in an MHL adapter. if they don't, *shrug* i've still got two i took from my parents when they got infuses

I think All At&t family plan customers received unlimited texting upgrade last week, and unlimited mobile to mobile ....check your account
I've just called 611. Last week I added Unlimited Messages to our fam plan and I was curious... Apparently, if you buy the Unlimited Mess ($30 for all the lines) and you are on a $69.99 fam plan (or higher), you get Unlimited Mobile to Mobile.

You don't have to have a family plan, from what I understand. I called 611 earlier today, and the rep I spoke to asked if I wanted him to go ahead and change my plan from 500 minutes or whatever it is, to the Unlimited Mobile to Mobile. I told him not to bother because the only time I actually talk on my phone is when a text will take too long, when my parents call, etc. I mean, I understand it's free, but I never use anywhere near 500 minutes. I use 200 in a month where I'm on the phone alot. lol. I'm on an individual plan by the way.

EDIT: I think I'm actually going to call back tomorrow and have them change it. Why not?

You already called bs on it last time i posted i haha.

at that time i was trying to get the two side by side but he had turned his in for the celox

I have nothing to prove.....in the end I could care less which phone you get lol. my first hand experience with the two was exactly opposite what you have seen online.

That being said....i am done here. I have no interest in this phone now. This was fun fore sure. I plan to continue playing with whatever "sammy" is testing and updating those threads. for now i will be over in the Celox forum!

its been great hanging out with you guys and gals!!!!

Yup! Release date is out, phone is coming, been out since may elsewhere. Party's over, later ya'll!

Now we have to wait for the first "My SGS2 sucks because xxxxxxxxx" thread. :)

lol. can't please everybody, right?
meanwhile, i called at&t today about the fact that according to their service map, i should have "good" service at my house. the reality is, i have none. according to the rep, they're working on the closest tower and service should be improved within 8 hours.
i'll believe it when i see it.
seriously considering switching to us cellular. they get service pretty much everywhere.

FYI I was in my local Costco (to return my Thrill) and asked if they'll be carrying AT&T's Galaxy SII. He said they will be carrying the AT&T version and the T-Mobile version. He didn't have pricing yet.
