Root [Official Root Guide] Kyocera Hydro Vibe

Yea I've followed to a T. It never installs kinguser in the first place. Good idea though, I will try from another PC. Wish I could try from Linux lol. :-)

So do I, lol. But only could find this program thats windows only. Im sure its possible. but just haven't found a method and cus i already rooted mine i haven't been looking. lol

Yea I just tried using wine, it really messed with mint lol.

Dont expect it to work what so ever with WINE. Wine just can not see the hardware. like sound for example. its set up to emulate a fake sound card for programs that need it to be able to send sound then translate it through the real linux drivers.

Wine does not take things like rooting phones into account. So when you run that program in wine. even if linux has the driver. the program can't understand it. because there two different platforms. WINE is just not up to pair for something like that.

if thats what you been trying to do. no wonder its not working. The linux driver just cant work for a windows application, it would have to be emulated. It might work if you emulated it all entirely like running VirtualBox and route the USB to it. but honestly, you be playing with fire. I would use a real windows machine with this method.

much as i love linux. until a method comes up. i wouldn't chance it.

Oh, nonono lol I've been using windows 7, also tried on a win xp machine. I'm about to backup phone and factory reset. I'll let you know what happens. Wine was just an experiment!

i got a problem with the tmp thingy everytime the phone restart in processes to boot it changed back to chanrging mode and my pc popup a window said tmp is unplugged

Phone restarting will always restart the USB Connection. So computer might always say that. but if you wanna change the default charge mode to storage or media transfer which ever you want. its easy to change.

On the phone
Setting --> PC Configuration -->Default Connection type

i just tried to root my vibe again it it said Such a tough phone root fail... any help? should retry

Make sure phone has USB Debugging enabled, and has proper drivers installed.

-- For everyone else. ---

DO NOT UPDATE FIRMWARE After you root. Until a proper recovery option can be done it could cause a boot loop if you attempt to update to the latest android while rooted (even if you clear user data, and cache). I just had to call and request a replacement for my phone sadly (which yeah i left out the root detail hehe. so new one on the way.)

So when i get it. I may try to update first thing then try to root it. if any of you where lucky and didn't get a error OK. but update at your own risk. I do not know if using the same program to unroot will make it safe or not. Users rooting may end up stuck at the current android version there on till a proper recovery can be made allowing re flashing in event of boot loop.

I put the phone in usb debugging mode, opened up ROOT Genius, plugged in the phone and it failed to install the adb drivers. I tried searching google for them and nothing showed up. :(

Might try one of these.

USB Driver 32 Bit

USB Driver 64 Bit

If those don't work might try one of these. While there may not be a brand name for this one listed I do think one of them will work still with it. I just cant recall which. Might of been HTC LG, or Samsung driver that worked. because thats what i had before the Vibe.

if clockworkmod you might for Windows 8 (8.1) You may need to Disable driver digital signature enforcement.

So the phone received an update? Mine didn't.

It did, you have to tell it to look. but i would not attempt it. you could screw your phone.

Wow, that sucks. I really would like to update my phone. It won't work even if I unroot my phone?

I dun know if that would work or not. I can not confirm it. nor will i try to confirm it till m replacement arrives. Without a custom recovery its not like i could of backed up my entire phone before attempting to root. in which case could removed root with the back up. then updated. and re rooted.

But at this time. just can't.

Maybe I could just do a factory reset.

I think that only clears your user data and cache. I dun think it resets your system data. in that event. the root would remain. You can try. but check for root after words. if you reset, when back up install SuperSU run it. then install a Root checker (unless you still have Kinguser and see it after reset).

after rooting. im not sure what would be the best thing to do if you really want the update at this time. If i knew this would happen i would of put a warning label ahead of time.

Attempt to root after my phone finally decided to see there was a upgrade.
Seems this method was either blocked by the factory update (something on the kernel) or just Root Genius is not compatible with Kit Kat at this time.

Sorry guys.

**Update**
After some looking around. it seems to be related to the kernel. seems that you need a kernel from before June 3, 2014 to root with Kit Kat at this time. So have to wait for someone that can unlock the bootloader and find a way to root a device after that date. ill still keep looking around.

So, try as I may I never got this rooted. But, I do have the new KitKat update so I'm happy. Anyone figure out a way to get WiFi tethering to work on this phone without root? I can USB tether but really need WiFi tether ...

Ive found it harder to do that because of the current tethering on it which checks for a tethering plan. but i haven't been looking ether. i got a working usb one also and if i ever need to tether thats all i need.

Itll bootloop. The workers couldn't fix it so they gave me a new one. By the way should I update my phone?

Thats entirely up to you. if you want kitkat and the latest from the factory firmware go right away. just don't count on being able to root after that. the kernel that it gets makes this guide unusable sadly.

if you root before update, you'll have the power to remove junk, and to use apps that need it. but later if you decide to update it. unroot first, but its still a risk i know how safe it is after you unroot. some claimed they did it ok. but not sure of the effects of updating it after unrooting it.

Depends on what's more important. in context i kinda wished i didnt update. phone worked just fine on android 4.3 for me, and i had root. 4.4 is a nice update to kitkat. but now i got junk i can't remove without root. and i haven't found a root yet that works with this kernel.

I rather someone with the skills just unlock, get us a recovery to flash to it. Rather use CM instead of the factory crap. lol
