***Official Samsung Fascinate 2.2 Speculation Thread***

I'm really wondering about Froyo for the Fascinate now (not that I need it, my Fascinate is flawless, fast and no issues).

I took a co-worker to lunch today and she wanted to go to the Verizon store to handle a Xoom and Galaxy Tab. The place was packed, and the wait was going to be 20 minutes plus, so she said just to leave her there and her husband would pick her up later on.

Well, I just got a call from her describing a conversation with the store manager, who was on the floor due to the long waits. Basically it went like this:

Cheryl: Oh, have you heard anything about the update coming to the Fascinate?

Rick: What update?

Cheryl: 2.2? Froyo?

Rick: Forget about it. We stopped asking regional about that once they told us that Samsung and Verizon could not agree on some things about it. That was last November.

Oh well.

Shun! Shun! SHUN the nonbeliever!! SHUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!
:D

Haha so much for new kernels in the near future..

I'm kinda just waiting for kaos' gingerbread build to get done in the meantime.

dont tell me that...

Yeah, Samsung is really dropping the ball w/ this amazing device. It gets harder & harder each day to wanna keep my phone knowing that it could be completely left in the dust. It seems as if Motorola might be the king of Android right now. They are supposedly gonna be the quickest w/ updates & have 2.3 on the X and such soon.

well depends on what you mean by "king" of android....to the nonroot crowd perhaps....for those that want to use the full potential of their phones, moto is a bunch of sh*theads

LMAO!

That's a bunch of nonsense. Obviously Samsung is working on a froyo release, otherwise there wouldn't be a DL30 (December 30th) or EB01 (Feb 1st) leaked ROM!

Well now, take heart, all of this about floor reps and Samsung support phone people etc making this or that prediction, or denial of an update, falls into the category, as I posted a while back, of not a lie, but compost: it's just fertilizer, anything can grow in it, the truth or not the truth. ;)

This will start off another round of dead-horse-beating, but an i9000 alpha of Gingerbread (JV1 - 2.3.2) has actually leaked from Samsung. This is the first TouchWiz-ified version, so expect at least a port (if/when SirGatez's awesome kernel adaptation project finishes).

The residual bugginess of EB01 is all the explanation you really need for Feb 22 not happening. At this point, who cares?

I flashed the stock EB01 and noticed a huge difference in my phone (of course it's not stock anymore...). Froyo is what the Fascinate should have shipped with. This thing is amazingly faster now, even with TW and VZW bloat.

Maybe you are having voodoo/nonvoodoo or other kernel conflicts/issues or something of that nature. I've never had nearly as bug, glitch, and lag free Fascinate as I do now with the EB01 leak. Running the same leaked version on my wife's Fascinate. We are pretty stinkin' happy with our Galaxy S devices right now ...

Since I've been on EB01 I haven't had a single problem. That's of course after it's been debloated and whatnot.

Before and after de-bloating, I'm still in your camp. The phone's a bit snappier after getting rid of some of the VZ trash, but man, this is a solid build. I know I can only base my reports off the Fascinates that I am able to use personally, but so far, EB01 is my favorite and the most bug free for me by a wide margin. My Fascinate had force closes, glitches, and hangs here and there (not really often, but occasionally for sure) on every 2.1 ROM, kernel, etc. that I tried. And believe me, it was a horrendous experience trying to get my particular Fascinate to finally work properly with EB01. But once I got it going nicely, I haven't looked back. There are lots of things you might need to go through to get it working right, especially if you've monkeyed around already with different ROM's and kernels. It was much easier on a brand new stock Fascinate right out of the box.

You hope? That makes no sense. Look how long it's taken to get 2.2 leaks, and the OTA is still not available. Now you want them to bag the 2.2 OTA altogether? 2.2 will bring loads of better experiences to the non-root crowd as soon as it is released. Skipping 2.2 now and going for 2.3 will just add another year of waiting for issues that are aggravatingly frustrating to many users who don't want to root their devices in order to simply make it work right. 2.2 addresses a score of problems, several of which aren't even fixable by rooting and modding the crap out of 2.1.

We're not going to get OTA 2.3 before we get OTA 2.2. To hope for such a thing is like hoping that you suddenly sprout wings and fly to the moon.

I bet you're a gas at a party.

Yeah, that "I Hope" wasn't to be taken that seriously. I just wouldn't mind having 2.3 next. But I do hope I sprout wings and fly to the moon. That would better than 2.3

When they have some good bean dip ...

That's the problem with online (and texting). Hard to text your tone of voice.

And sorry, if I sound too serious (which would mean you missed my charlie the unicorn references here and there...) but I definitely feel a pang of sorrow for the non-root crowd that struggles with their stock Fascinates, especially knowing that some of the things they complain about are addressed quite handily in 2.2.

In the mean time, I'll continue to enjoy what's going on over at XDA. The Captivate has it's 2.2 update available now. We'll see how things go for them for a bit.

Although im pretty satisfied with my stock fascinate, its mostly a principal issue. 2.2 Froyo would be spectacular to have, but im mainly miffed because my device feels like the crappy seconds next to the Incredible and Droid X when it could easily be the top of the heap. I mean our phone was released almost 4 months later than the X and its still not on the same level as that phone. Does anyone else see a problem here?

Because of that I have lost all faith in samsung and do not plan to purchase ANY more samsung products in the future (And I plan to sway others away if they ask my opinion).

I REALLY feel bad for those who bought the car docks though, apparently they dont work perfectly until froyo is released. I would be livid if I had bought something and it only worked to its full potential nearly 7 months in...

To be honest, Flash is what I'm really looking forward to. I don't know much/anything about rooting and not sure I want to try it. I do really want to see 2.2 though. I'd really like to view websites the way they were intended to be viewed.

New to the site here.

I was at a meeting the other day and there were maybe 20+ people with DX's and 3 or 4 with the fascinate. Other than me the fascinates were all stock and they LOVE their phones didn't know that there was a problem. Which Baffles me since I only got the phone with hopes of 2.2. 2.1 was an issue from the start but I only had to wait until years end... LOL What a JOKE!!!

NO more samsungs for me.. And I am ditching this one for a lateral jump to the TB as soon as I can.
