A few times over the past 6 months, the Fascinate was advertised on the Verizon site as a 2.2 device.
Thanks for that reminder; I'd forgot about that.

True but this is brick and mortar, And then again they may have been and honest mistake seeing ours and US celluar's are the only ones that have not been updated.
The mesmerize got the update this past week.

It was actually on Samsung's own website, advertising this phone for Verizon. That was months ago. It had other falsehoods on it, such as boasting a true "Google experience" when the truth is, it was about as de-googled and Bing'd as you could possibly do to an android OS device.
Yes, the old "left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing" syndrome; Samsung's public relations department (ad concept/writing, etc) might be a world away from their tech specs department, two entities that should be working closely for us.
Marketing (PR) is in charge of making promises it's up to someone else to keep.
In all honesty I'm not expecting anything. Idk if I want to switch phones or not when the Boinic comes out...then there's that iPhone 5 release a few months later...
Decisions decisions!
Well.....0801 hours on ,3-28-2011, and still no FROYO or 2.2 of any kind........not rooted yet. I might move to Rootsville soon.
A bit off thread topic but on your root topic...
I finally took the SuperClean plunge, sporting ADW.Launcher. Both versions of Abduction now magically work. Yay!!
Phone doesn't seem any faster, even though I opted for the voodoo version. Things seem to work well, though. Haven't tested my GPS yet. On the 2.2.1 EB01 stock leak (cleaned to my personal preference) my GPS worked fine the first few times I used it. Then, I needed it last week, and it wouldn't work AT ALL. No lock anywhere, even outside the vehicle. Really frustrating because I actually needed it. I'll be testing that very soon, just to be on the safe side.
Tim-
Do you think that any other Samsung phones (newer ones) will ever be updated?
Look, guys, here's the deal:
In case some of us aren't so hot at the whole pattern recognition thing, we've been making the same speculative comments over and over and over again for nearly 9 months now. For every rumored deadline that comes and goes, within days, some new imbecile manages to crap out a post, here or elsewhere, along the lines of "well check this out, y'all, because -I- heard..." followed by a date. Invariably, that new date, too, comes and goes, and the cycle repeats.
The fact is the Samsung Fascinate is -not- going to be upgraded to 2.2. Period.
Sure, sometimes development gets delayed for whatever reason, and sometimes those delays can be significant. But almost 9 months for a massive corporation to simply port an existing, completed package over to new hardware? Sorry, I don't buy it.
At this point, you're probably itching to point out that "well gosh, what about that leaked firmware?"
I propose to you that what was leaked was a version of 2.2 for the Fascinate that had been progressing before it was abandoned entirely. There's -absolutely- no reason to believe otherwise.
So to succinctly reiterate:
The Samsung Fascinate will NOT be getting a 2.2 upgrade. If you WANT 2.2 on your Samsung Fascinate, you will need to follow the directions in any one of the several well-written how-to's and install the leaked, incomplete and now abandoned version of 2.2 on your Fascinate yourself. There is not now and nor will there ever be -any- other method by which to use Froyo on your Samsung Fascinate.
Get over it. Stop with this "well, the secretary at my boyfriend's auto shop told me..." speculation. The fact is that A) none of you have ever been correct, B) none of you will ever be correct. You can speculate for the rest of your natural life if you like -- all it does is set you (and other naive people) up for sustained, cyclical disappointment and make you look like morons in the process.
If you want to use a device for which there will be future firmware updates, you will need to purchase something other than the Samsung Fascinate.
Best,
Tim
I think he may have been jumping on my post I made earlier this morning. I made a guess that it might come out in mid-April strictly because some one asked. It wasn't a prediction, just a guess that was requested. I had reservations about posting it to begin with, but I figured I might as well. I never figured someone clearly as jaded about this topic (aren't we all though?) as this person would jump all over it. I guess that's my mistake. Then again, with a whopping 3 posts here, I'm gonna guess this was just an angry drive-by trolling.I have to disagree. 2.2 official is coming, at least in my opinion. Leaks continue to pop up on different test ROMs and kernels. Why do you expect the nation's largest (until the merger completes, anyways) carrier to be the ONLY one not to update their Galaxy S variant? Considering how long it took Sprint and AT&T to update theirs, if Verizon is only a month or two late, that will be typical Verizon.
With a wider user base and a more rigorous testing methodology they are going to find more bugs and complaints about the Fascinate and send more feedback to Samsung than other carriers.
You saying for SURE that the Fascinate is not getting official 2.2 is just as asinine as those who give set speculated dates for its release. I've never estimated a release date or claimed to believe firmly in a rumor without the disclaimer that it's only my best guess, and nothing more. In fact, last year, I recall saying I just hope I get 2.2 before (or for) my birthday. Verizon/Samsung missed that mark, but if it comes out in April, it won't be by much.
