***Official Samsung Fascinate 2.2 Speculation Thread***

Thanks for that reminder; I'd forgot about that.

It was actually on Samsung's own website, advertising this phone for Verizon. That was months ago. It had other falsehoods on it, such as boasting a true "Google experience" when the truth is, it was about as de-googled and Bing'd as you could possibly do to an android OS device.

Yes, the old "left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing" syndrome; Samsung's public relations department (ad concept/writing, etc) might be a world away from their tech specs department, two entities that should be working closely for us.

Or you'd think, at the very least, watching each other's backs a smidgen.

I know they're are ways to get 2.2 if you have rooted your phone, but for those who don't want to root their phone, does anyone know of a rumored date that the official 2.2 release will be released?

I exchanged my phone at Verizon about a month ago because of a problem and she said that the updated would be around March 18, but obviously it has passed March 18 with no further signs of the release...any news?

You're barking up the wrong tree my dude...we've been asking that question since this phone came out. If you really want 2.2 I'd suggest rooting, because there's really no hints as to whether or not we're even getting it offically or not.

Marketing (PR) is in charge of making promises it's up to someone else to keep.

Hahaha. I can't believe it's almost April. I believe me and Saps predicted Feb. or March a few months back, and I thought that was generous with leeway. This is so funny. Seriously. I can't even be mad. This is just hilariously ridiculous now. HAHAHAHA. :):o:(

In all honesty I'm not expecting anything. Idk if I want to switch phones or not when the Boinic comes out...then there's that iPhone 5 release a few months later...

Decisions decisions!

Nah, we really are getting close. Samsung released the Mezmerize source code, and promised the I500 VZW (verizon fascinate) source code is soon to follow. Didn't your mom ever tell you that good things come to those who wait? :p

you do not have to root to get FROYO. once again, you do not have to root to get FROYO. there are factory leaks out there that are not rooted or otherwise touched.

PM me and i will send it to you.

Well.....0801 hours on ,3-28-2011, and still no FROYO or 2.2 of any kind........not rooted yet. I might move to Rootsville soon.

I don't know anyone, and I don't study the release dates of leaks. But if the current rumor mill is correct, and Samsung has recently (in the last 2 weeks) given a new build to Verizon my guess is that it's likely to be released sometime in mid-April (assuming it passes Verizon's standards which the last 3 builds have not).

That being said, with Mesmerize source being released it doesn't really matter that much if you choose to go the root route. (Which I don't see why you wouldn't.)

DISCLAIMER: This is just my best guess. I don't know anything except what I read here and a few other forums. I don't know anyone that works for VZW. And I don't claim to know any insider information here. I'm just making a guess based on assuming information I've read is correct, and past events.

Maybe when I got my Fascinate in early October 2010 and I was told that I would get 2.2 by the end of October....they meant October 2011? If it comes in April 2011 that will be 5 months early. Or maybe they're waiting until 2.3 is standard on all the Android phones to release 2.2 to us kinda like VZW/HTC did with 2.1 and the Eris?

A bit off thread topic but on your root topic...

I finally took the SuperClean plunge, sporting ADW.Launcher. Both versions of Abduction now magically work. Yay!!

Phone doesn't seem any faster, even though I opted for the voodoo version. Things seem to work well, though. Haven't tested my GPS yet. On the 2.2.1 EB01 stock leak (cleaned to my personal preference) my GPS worked fine the first few times I used it. Then, I needed it last week, and it wouldn't work AT ALL. No lock anywhere, even outside the vehicle. Really frustrating because I actually needed it. I'll be testing that very soon, just to be on the safe side.

Look, guys, here's the deal:

In case some of us aren't so hot at the whole pattern recognition thing, we've been making the same speculative comments over and over and over again for nearly 9 months now. For every rumored deadline that comes and goes, within days, some new imbecile manages to crap out a post, here or elsewhere, along the lines of "well check this out, y'all, because -I- heard..." followed by a date. Invariably, that new date, too, comes and goes, and the cycle repeats.

The fact is the Samsung Fascinate is -not- going to be upgraded to 2.2. Period.

Sure, sometimes development gets delayed for whatever reason, and sometimes those delays can be significant. But almost 9 months for a massive corporation to simply port an existing, completed package over to new hardware? Sorry, I don't buy it.

At this point, you're probably itching to point out that "well gosh, what about that leaked firmware?"

I propose to you that what was leaked was a version of 2.2 for the Fascinate that had been progressing before it was abandoned entirely. There's -absolutely- no reason to believe otherwise.

So to succinctly reiterate:

The Samsung Fascinate will NOT be getting a 2.2 upgrade. If you WANT 2.2 on your Samsung Fascinate, you will need to follow the directions in any one of the several well-written how-to's and install the leaked, incomplete and now abandoned version of 2.2 on your Fascinate yourself. There is not now and nor will there ever be -any- other method by which to use Froyo on your Samsung Fascinate.

Get over it. Stop with this "well, the secretary at my boyfriend's auto shop told me..." speculation. The fact is that A) none of you have ever been correct, B) none of you will ever be correct. You can speculate for the rest of your natural life if you like -- all it does is set you (and other naive people) up for sustained, cyclical disappointment and make you look like morons in the process.

If you want to use a device for which there will be future firmware updates, you will need to purchase something other than the Samsung Fascinate.

Best,

Tim

My GPS works pretty good on the stock 2.1 now....especially if I just leave it on it locks quick and doesn't kill the battery. This is one reason why I haven't visited Rootville yet.

Tim-
Do you think that any other Samsung phones (newer ones) will ever be updated?

Sure -- there's no reason to believe otherwise, and it'd only make sense to continue to support/update your current products.

It's just a shame that, for whatever reason, they've abandoned all future updates to the Fascinate, as we can clearly see from the previous ~9 months.

I have to disagree. 2.2 official is coming, at least in my opinion. Leaks continue to pop up on different test ROMs and kernels. Why do you expect the nation's largest (until the merger completes, anyways) carrier to be the ONLY one not to update their Galaxy S variant? Considering how long it took Sprint and AT&T to update theirs, if Verizon is only a month or two late, that will be typical Verizon.

With a wider user base and a more rigorous testing methodology they are going to find more bugs and complaints about the Fascinate and send more feedback to Samsung than other carriers.

You saying for SURE that the Fascinate is not getting official 2.2 is just as asinine as those who give set speculated dates for its release. I've never estimated a release date or claimed to believe firmly in a rumor without the disclaimer that it's only my best guess, and nothing more. In fact, last year, I recall saying I just hope I get 2.2 before (or for) my birthday. Verizon/Samsung missed that mark, but if it comes out in April, it won't be by much.

I think he may have been jumping on my post I made earlier this morning. I made a guess that it might come out in mid-April strictly because some one asked. It wasn't a prediction, just a guess that was requested. I had reservations about posting it to begin with, but I figured I might as well. I never figured someone clearly as jaded about this topic (aren't we all though?) as this person would jump all over it. I guess that's my mistake. Then again, with a whopping 3 posts here, I'm gonna guess this was just an angry drive-by trolling. :)
