***Official Samsung Fascinate 2.2 Speculation Thread***

any way you look at this it is a joke. i really believe there should be a class action lawsuite.

I adamantly agree with you. There should be, on the grounds that consumers were fraudulently enticed to enter into a contract by way of A) implicitly communicating to consumers that an update to Froyo was imminent, and B) explicitly communicating to consumers that an update to 2.2 "would be released no later than the end of [2010]." Neither of these were true, obviously, and -many- of us would have made different choices had Verizon not both fraudulently advertised their product and knowingly made false statements to consumers.

For the record, there are people exploring this option.

May be off topic but does anyone know if Froyo (if it ever comes out for the Fascinate) will get rid of the whole Bing package that came with the phone?

Time for our Sunday Public Service Announcement:

Let's step back and stay very clear on the rule that mods will always enforce, easily stated as either attack the message and not the messenger or attack issues and not each other.

Due to the frustration levels on the whole late-Froyo thing for you cats, we're letting a little extra latitude here - also because everyone here has been pretty cool about the back and forth.

If a thread bugs you to the point where you're tempted to slag its participants, better to keep you blood pressure low (it's heart-healthy! :)) and just move on to a thread that suits you better.

If people want to argue the issues on the path to arriving at an action or a consensus or just to have their voices heard, that's what the forums are here for.

Cheers, thanks a lot. ;)

^^ Agreed. So far it has mostly been pretty good and civil. It's nice for us to have a place to vent and lean on each other's shoulders, as well as explore options.

And if you guys do end up going legal or putting together something formal against Verizon, let me know. Samsung/Verizon isn't the first combo to botch something like this up, but that doesn't make it right.

I noticed that you use a fascinate so I was hoping you could help me out. I have one also though I just bought a thunderbolt and deactivated my fascinate(rooted). I took the sd card out of the fascinate for other use and I formatted it. I went to turn my fascinate back on and it won't get past the Samsung logo. I wanted to sell it so my question is what do I need to put back on the sd card be able to turn on the phone. btw I was on DL30, os 2.2.1, and EB01. I would really appreciate any advice you could give me.

I was thinking about it a bit last night (between drunken stupors) and it started to come to me that if I want reliable updates, I'm going to have to start looking at the iPhone. I'm not sure if it was the alcohol or the idea of going to an iPhone, but I just didn't like it. I'm on my second Android phone and so far I'm 0-2 on reliable updates.

I wondered the same thing. My wife started on the Eris (I started on the OG Droid almost went Eris) then got the Fascinate and I got a Fascinate. She gave up and went to a Palm Pre 2 and is loving it. I really do love Android and the concept but the lack of updates and the bugginess that I see released in phones is bugging me. Even the current flagship phone the Nexus S has issues. Its bothersome when my wife's dated Palm Pre 2 and my buddy's iphone are ruuning smooth with no lags and I'm overclocking and see lag more often than I should.

So if you haven't heard Samsung is releasing the Samsung Galaxy Prevail on Boost this coming Tuesday (or announcing it anyways). This POS underpowered phone will come with *drumroll* please... Froyo 2.2!

I have to say that is the end of the line with me. My Fascinate is going up on craigslist. I'm going to rock my OG Droid for now until I find a phone that I like.

Gads, I take one day off and what happens in here? :D

Everybody can relax now, not because I'm back, but because by now it's become pretty close to obvious that the Fascinate's update to 2.2 is (fill in the blank with "not" or "surely") coming. ;)

Those of us who (fill in the blank with "love" or "hate") 2.1 feel pretty (fill in the blank with "crappy" or "great") about that.

ok, iam not the sharpest tool in the shed so bare with me, How is it i have FROYO on my phone that is a leak I ODINED and it works perfect but there hasnt been a official release? I just dont understand how i can have it working perfect on my phone yet Verizon or whoever is willing to risk a lawsuit by not releasing it? its just so confusing and none of it makes any sense.

So I know this isn't going to matter to you guys much but I felt the same way last week. My wife got a droid x the same time I got the Fascinate. Well this weekend I took the suprisingly easy step of rooting my phone and loading Superclean 2.9 on there. All I can say is WOW. I am so glad I bought the fascinate. It is 10 times smoother than my wifes droid x. I am in love with my phone again. All it took was a little research. I have no verizon or bing bloat wear! There are no glitches or lag! If the ota release is half as good as whats on my phone now it is worth the wait.

It may be perfect for your usage and apps, maybe not so much for
someone else with different apps and usage.

I have found a post on the XDA forums by the Samsung Rep that contributes there.

He also tweeted this very message a couple days ago.

2.2/Froyo pulled? - xda-developers

To quote:

Hello,

All the speculations and rumors about the Verizon 2.2/Froyo update being pulled are false, I assure the update is still coming. We are working to make the Android 2.2/Froyo upgrade available to all Verizon users as soon as possible.

Thanks,
Twitter:@SamsungJohn

I just thought this may be of interest to the other users here, and possibly maybe factor into your proclamation that froyo will absolutely never be released for the fascinate.

Keep on keeping on!

EDIT:
@EarlyMon - I see what you did there...and I understand why you did it. Will keep this in mind in future posts ;)

There's no doubt it's coming. I would suspect most of us are upset at the time it's taking. If Froyo for the fascinate was being worked on and tested to work out the kinks, why so long? There is no way if this was being worked on as a mainstream project it would have taken this long. It's one of those things on the "to do" list but it would seem as if this is one that is in the works at somebody's leisure. That's frustrating. My sister bought an original droid and it's running Froyo. How can that be? The only concluding answer that makes sense is that it will get done when someone makes this a front and center project. Is that time now? I guess we'll know when we get OTA sometime in the near or far future. Hopefully we'll have it by summer I'm thinking that's reasonable if this has been moved up on the "to do" list.

But then again, that's solely my opinion but the only one I can conclude that makes any sense.

I think this whole debacle has gone far enough. I purchased my phone back in October of 2010 and I was "promised" at the Verizon store that there was a update coming in the "near future" HAHAHAHAH. I think it is April now, correct? I guess the near future means 6 months for Verizon. Anyways, the issues that I want fixed with my phone is that the GPS takes 10 min to get a lock on the satellites and I feel like I am using technology that is archaic. The GPS fix is something that is promised in the 2.2 update, which would be nice. Also, another problem I am having often is that my phone randomly and frequently freezes and the screen goes black, except the bottom buttons still light up when you touch them. I have heard that the update is also going to fix that. Like other users have said, I will never buy a SAMSUNG mobile phone ever again. As far as their tv's go, they rock. Their phones (in relation to their customer service) is AWFUL. I just think it is ludicrous for this constant delay of the update. I am feeling quite confident that many androids will have 2.3 when we are still on 2.1 - making us 2 generations behind. SAMSUNG = UNACCEPTABLE.

2.2 has been here for weeks for those willing to do a few minutes of effort themselves. Lord only knows when VZW will deliver it for you/us.

In a way i should thank samsung for not releasing the update, because now I can see how bad touchwiz really was. Pure google 2.2 with no bloatwear is slick. I would have never gone to these lengths if they had done as they said they would. And there is all ready a version of 2.3 in the works ported over from the nexus s.

Oh and to fix your gps you dont even need froyo. You just have to root(this literally takes one click and about 5 minutes) and download GPS Aids from the market. Mine works like a charm. Just sayin.

Well, I've got one good reason to doubt it's ever coming: 8 months (almost 9) of solid "we're working to release Froyo/2.2 for the Fascinate as soon as possible."

It can't be a technical issue -- as I've said before, no large corporation takes this long to simply port firmware, and to anybody who's ever worked in that kind of corporate environment, the very suggestion is crazy. Entire *operating systems* have been coded and tested in that timeframe. And once we realize that the problem isn't technical, and is, perhaps, contractual, then there's plenty of reason to doubt that the official release will ever take place. Plenty of *good* reason.

Continually claiming that the update is on the way compels consumers to keep purchasing the Fascinate and keeps current Fascinate owners from moving to another service. It seems unethical, but that's business.

If the ota release is as good as the unfinished, leaked firmware that we've had to push to our phones ourselves just to solve problems with 2.1 that we never should have had to deal with in the first place, it'll be worth an 8+ month delay while virtually every other product on the market has not only had 2.2 for some time now, but is already looking ahead toward 2.3?

I'm.. going to have to go ahead and disagree with that. :P Heh.
