***Official Samsung Fascinate 2.2 Speculation Thread***

Hi guys, I finally decided to root and install froyo, but I don't know where to find the froyo. I haven't visited here for a while and lost track of it. What version is the newest? Thanks for help.

I don't know what that means???

It means one of two things:

Samsung is getting tired of end-user complaints, and is going the Viewsonic route, and supplying full support to the dev community (By offering up source code for kernels, etc); hoping that a strong dev community will clean up their VZW-tarnished image (Samsung is generally pretty good about device support).

OR

An official OTA is due out soon from VZW.

If true, either way, it's good news. However, I'm waiting to hear from the devs if it is or not.

I bet you get an automated response.

Oddly enough I have been contacted (via email) by the office of Eileen Creeden (Vice President - Northeast Area Customer Service) asking me for my mobile number and a good daytime number to be reached at.

However I feel as this buck might get passed as I live in Texas and she is VP of Northeast Customer Service.

After reading this, I've sent out (Using their contact form) emails to my area's officers, as well as corporate marketing and communications.

I think this is likely correct. It's not an indication that an ota / official update is on the way. It simply means Samsung is extremely tired of taking a bat to the face for VZW's failure.

I think it's an automated email reply. I've gotten the same email back within a minute or two of sending.

+1

I'd rather have xda dev cook up something then an official release anyways... every ota update seems to add more bloat.

Excellent. I didn't get any responses so hopefully, you get someone's ear.

So if no official froyo is released by Verizon and we have to just wait for the devs, we wont need to root to be able to update to froyo right? It will just be able to install just like an OTA?.....also anyone think that maybe we can get gingerbread in the future this way, cut out Verizon all together for our updates, cause that would be TOPS! lol the bees knees!

How do we know which version to download for unrooted phones?

No it will not install like an OTA. If we're lucky someone may create a full version that can be loaded via odin, but it still takes some know-how to do this.

There is no version for unrooted phones. This is just source code. But it means that the fascinate froyo code is mature and completed for release by samsung. Now official roll out is up to Verizon.

Soooo that means we MIGHT get it in about.....uuuummmmm......aaahhhh......the next 2 or 3 years?

The message from Samsung I posted here a few pages back said that when the 2.2 Verizon Fascinate update was ready for primetime that they would release the source code to the public. I give a big "hell yeah" to samsung for doing this, whether Verizon is releasing their own rubber-stamped official 2.2 or not. Well, maybe not a "hell yeah" since it's so late, but at least a "yeah". This is good news for SURE to the root/mod crowd, and likely/hopefully good news soon for the non-root crowd as well.

But just for the record, official froyo for the fascinate has now missed my birthday and my cousin's birthday. That means no samsung TV. I'm glad they're still supporting us, but they are SOOOOOOOOOOOO late!

that's probably about right. basically this means is that samsung has deemed it good to go. verizon now has to push it out to everyone.

I've been running the EC01 radio on the superclean 2.9.2 Frankenstein ROM since the EC01 ROM/radio combo dropped, and battery life and signal seems much improved. I'm going to load the unbloated EC01 ROM this afternoon to try it out, it should resolve a lot of the annoying bugs from EB01.

it's really not all that difficult to load these things up, and since this is likely going to be the release code there's not much risk if you want to make the jump.

OTA-
DEVS-
ODIN-

So what are the running odds VZW sends out this update in the near future? Are we still waiting the typical "2 weeks" for this (which has been, what 6-8 months now)?

Gerat posts, thanks for all the info!!

OTA= Over the air update from VZW
DEVS= Developers who make roms, kernals, etc for us on their own time and dime.
ODIN= A program that is used to push certain file types to our phones by us.

OTA- over the air update - method for verizon phone updates
DEVS- developers - smart guys who program stuff for phones
ODIN- program used to load software via USB onto phone

2 weeks, 2 months, never, who knows? whenever verizon decides to roll it out.
