[Official] Version 1 battery life thread

I went from insanely excited to practically not buying it after the way the launch was handled. I can honestly say that I don't regret my purchase and the more I use it, the more I'm loving it.

In order to keep this thread on topic I'll add another observation. I've used the watch face I posted over in the Recommended Apps thread all day today and it seems to hit my battery a little harder. Additionally, waking it up either by flicking or tapping has a noticeable lag. I went back to one of the stock watch faces, and the response time went back to effortless and near instant. Just an observation. Kind of sucks too because I really liked that face. I don't think Facer had that problem.

Edit: I just thought of one more battery thing. I turned my brightness down to one. Seriously, even at one, this screen is BRIGHT. I have left that ambient setting off because I've heard bad stuff about it.

The watch face problem could be because they haven't released the API for making them yet.

Well they need to get with that! LOL. Watch faces that perform as well as stock and a SwiftKey keyboard. That's what will make this device perfect.

SwiftKey? On a 1.3" watchface?

Okay, you must have very small fingers or something, because a keyboard on my watch would be about worthless to me... anyway...

For those of us having the 360 battery die on us from over-playing with it or whatever, my PowerBot Qi charger ($15 on Amazon) is a lifesaver. It gives my 360 a much-needed lunchtime boost, allowing me to conquer the whole day with it. I highly recommend it:

Amazon.com: PowerBot

Yeah I just checked that out, that would work too. There's a video of it on YouTube on the Samsung watch.

I'm about an hour and a half shy of 12 hours off the charger. Today I did zero installing/uninstalling apps and such, so I would say it was a pretty average day. Lots of texts and emails. Quite a few notifications from Twitter and such. I've turned nothing off as far as notifications, they don't bother me. I did leave the stock "minimal" face on so I can get a base line when using the other ones. I'm at 55% right now. If this is what I can expect from this device on a regular basis, it'll be fine.

I do have the brightness set to one and I don't have ambient on. I have NO trouble seeing it indoors at all. Like I posted earlier, even on one it's pretty bright. Now if you need to see it in direct sunlight that will pose a problem being that low. But I went for a hike today in a pretty heavily wooded area and in the shade it was perfectly visible.

Seriously loving this watch.

I have had a REAL bad battery day. This is my first day at work with the 360. I took it off the charger ~7 this morning and I'm at 14% right now. I don't think I did much more than I did yesterday but I uninstalled a few apps just to see if anything might be weird. I also want to try a reboot here to make sure anything uninstalled is really out of memory.

Please keep us posted. This is odd for sure. Any third party watch faces?

Well I went on a deletion frenzy today. I had, honestly I forget which one, one of those alarm things that tell you when your watch gets too far away from your phone? One of those. That might be a drain, monitoring the Bluetooth state all the time? I also deleted the wear launcher app and a couple of watch faces. All I have left is the calculator, calendar, LookBehind (which I may delete because I bought) PixtoCam which is cool. Oh I still have Facer too but I'm not using one of them right now, I just have the stock Minimal set up. I'm assuming something like that, if it isn't active, wouldn't be a drain.

So... I guess we'll see. I'll keep you all posted.

Yes, I'm going to go as bare bones as possible to start with. As long as I can check texts, the weather and email, I'll be happy... to start.

Threw it on the charger just because I was curious at 3:47pm.

72%

I keep seeing what appears to be people taking their watches off and putting them on the charger just to see battery level.

Do you guys realize that if you swipe half way down on the clock face (as if you were going to mute the watch alerts) that you can see the date and battery level?

If I'm misunderstanding people, I apologize. Just thought you guys would like to know that if you weren't aware.

My battery usage after my first full day of use:

27% left after 13 hours and 15 minutes

I would consider today a VERY HEAVY usage day as I was showing the watch at work all day / pushing all notifications / changed watch faces relentlessly / navigated drive home from work / used runkeeper for a 30 minute run.

Brightness set to 5 (highest)
Ambient mode: off
Connected to LG G2 100% of the time today

I would estimate a normal usage day for me to be half of this (if not less). I will still have battery left when I go to bed easily.

I posted this in another thread, another awesome way to check your battery life is from your phone. Launch the Connect app. Click on the picture of your device. It'll tell you your current battery level.

I'm thinking one of those apps was the culprit. I checked it ~1/2 hour ago via this method and I was at 91%. I haven't touched it. I just checked it again and it's still at 91%. As quickly as I was losing battery power today, a half an hour should have seen a drop.

Thanks for sharing that Jinx! Do you have any third party apps installed yet?

No problem... I figured it would be useful for people but it's a little obscure.

The only additional App that I have installed is Runkeeper. I have a feeling that some of the battery horror stories may be the product of badly coded apps. Perhaps I shouldn't say "badly coded" as android wear is so new and there is probably a learning curve for the developers.

Not only that - but let's be honest... the 360 is pushing a bigger LCD screen with a smaller battery and older (less efficient) cpu. Therefore, it is going to be less forgiving with an app that is using excessive cpu cycles or keeping the screen on longer than usual.

That does not mean that this watch cannot give workable battery life - but I would definitely keep an eye on how each installed app affects the battery.

I chose this watch knowing full well that the battery and cpu were not quite as "up to snuff" as the competition. I chose it knowing this because it is far and away the best looking smartwatch and in my opinion nothing comes close from a visual standpoint.

I thought that too and I'm sure you're right. There is a learning curve for the devs to come up with this stuff, and to do it efficiently. It'll just require a little extra vigilance by the end users in the meantime.

I was completely "meh" on smart watches until I saw the 360 unveiled. I instantly said, "I want THAT watch." If keeping an eye on what apps I install and having a Qi pad at work, then so be it :)

I felt the same. I am happy to receive notifications and especially fitness tracking on my wrist. I just wasn't prepared to wear something that looked embarrassing to do it. This is the only smart watch that doesn't look completely silly to me.

The LG G Watch R looks like it will also be acceptable but in my opinion doesn't look nearly as slick as the 360.

Honestly, you know what I thought as soon as I saw that LG round watch? The Casio $12 I used to wear years ago. LOL.

I THINK this is a battery related question...

For those who have the watch, here's a scenario that I live out every day with my gear 2. Just wondering what you think...

As I've mentioned I teach first grade and I often leave the classroom with my kids to bring them to lunch or specials. When I do so, I usually leave my phone on my desk and I go about my business. Halfway down the hall my gear will tell me it's now disconnected and when I return it tells me I connected again.

First, will this same process happen with the 360?

Secondly, will being out of range destroy my already temperamental battery life?

Thanks so much in advance.

Out of the box it will not alert you if you go out of range, but there will be a little cloud with a line through it icon appear on the watch telling you you're out of range. There are quite a few apps though that will alert you if you go out of range. In my quest to track down my battery drain issue I deleted everything (and accidentally did a factory reset LOL) so right now I have nothing on mine. But that's one that I'll reinstall soon.

As far as how being out of range would affect the battery, honestly I don't know enough about how Bluetooth works to know. If it's anything like cell radios, it will suck!

Makes me think I should start grabbing my cell with me when I leave the room, unless anyone can give me different information. I'm only gone for five to ten minutes at a clip and then I'm right back within range. This occurs two or three times a day.

I went to the grocery store and tried it out. I never received a notification saying Bluetooth lost or one when they paired back up.

Well, adding one of those alert thingies will certainly drain your battery, because it will be actively buzzing you trying to get your attention.

This is one of the things I wish Android was better at doing. Listing active battery drain states. So when you install something, it will show you just how much more energy an app is consuming, if any. It would make tracking down rogue apps more easy.

It didn't tell you you were out of range or back in range, but it indeed DID reconnect for you when you got back into range? Then showed you what you missed if you missed anything? (That's what my Gear 2 Neo does, yet it also tells you when you are out and in range)
