Olympus vs Captivate.. my plan.

I get where you are coming from. I don't have a problem with you getting a Captivate at all. It is your decision. I am just saying it seems as though you are putting down the Atrix and the other phones for no reason. I mean, they have been announced for just days now.

If they come out in time for me to exchange, wonderful. As I've said many times I am willing to gamble.

If they don't come out within 30 days.. well too bad.

If they don't come out within 30 days and I'm stuck with the captivate. I'll have had a phone for 30 days already and I can settle for that.

I see in your info you have an iphone.

Although I get bored of even just toying around with my moms iphone 4, where I stay enamored with android devices for hours on end..

Even the iphone would be a drastic improvement over what I have now.

All I can say is imagine never having the features you have now despite needing them.

Nothing about my phone has really been up to any sort of higher quality standard that I was use to with the e71x.

I have been interested in android for a long time. For over 6 months I have been waiting for an upgrade to see what kind of phone I could get.

I never imagined getting any android at all, due to my well.. lacking in logic parents.

I am tired of not being able to really text my girlfriend because, I get annoyed with my stiff keys. I am tired of me hitting "send" but, because of the funky way the keyboard is set up it puttting a paragraph in instead.. so an hour later I wonder why I haven't gotten a text back when I never sent a reply in the first place.

I've already said that I'd be willing to gamble so I suppose the real question is if there is that much confidence they are days away whats wrong with getting the captivate now and switching if the atrix comes out?

I don't think I am going to want the samsung because, 4.5 inches is big.

I loved playing with my works evo it was very nice. but, I wouldn't want bigger than that.

Htc is pretty reliable in terms of hardware and more reliable than samsung or motorola in terms of upgrades.

I am seeing mixed reports on the HTC... although on the offical htc page it says Qualcomm

Personally, I think he brings up some good points about being the first to purchase a device and it is something which consumers should take into account.

I am not saying his points aren't valid. Just that there is always gonna be a group that are first adapters. Without those first adapters progress would stall

Snapdragon is the name for the entire system on chip (SoC) which includes CPU/GPU/GPS/Camera Processor, etc while Scorpion is the name for the CPU itself (this link is very helpful in explaining the differences between the 3 generations of Snapdragon processors, the one in the Inspire is the second generation, the first generation being that in the Desire/Nexus1/Liquid/etc with the third generation being the dual core chips)- Qualcomm Products and Services - The Snapdragon? Platform

This newer generation chip (MSM8x55) is 45nm process technology v 65nm process technology meaning it consumes less power which I am guessing means better battery life. Also boasts a better GPU (41M triangles/second v 22M triangles/second)

So what is your opinion then. For a person who uses there phone primarily for internet messaging and social media plus Widgets. Which way would you go Inspire or Atrix

Hard to say since neither are out.

I don't think you can really go wrong with either. Both would be able to do what you want to and both are fast (in terms of benchmarks of Desire HD v LG Star (Tegra 2), DHD had better quadrant/linpack, Star had better Nenamark/Neocore, no idea how well that translates into real world speed tho).

If you are into gaming, then Atrix is the better pick. But you might be (still don't know as neither are out) better off waiting for Samsung's dual core (Orion) or Qualcomm's dual core (Snapdragon MSM8x60).

If you are into installing mods and different custom ROMs (ie. one which has access to Froyo's tethering/sideloading apps easily instead of through ADB like I want), then the HTC is probably the better choice.

Best thing is to wait til both devices release, try out both of them side by side an at AT&T store and see which one suits you best.

Personally, I say, keep your Nexus S until AT&T starts releasing LTE devices (part of me is thinking of doing that with my Liquid and HOPING to see a Samsung dual core or preferably a Qualcomm dual core device release onto AT&T's LTE).

I would if I didn't get loss of data frequently througjt the day

Definitely if you are into gaming, get the Atrix. Nvidia announced their own App store called Tegrazone. They are going to have premium games in it without the issues of the 50MB limit. Sounds good to me.

barring gaming, I think it depends on what the battery life is really like for atrix and what size screen you want.

My money would be on htc. I like 4" and think its is a great size.

I can handle 4.3" the extra size isn't *That* big of a deal to me. 4 or 4.3 is pretty ideal either way.

4.5 may be getting a little to big to fit in my pockets though especially after 3 layers of protection...

There is no gaurantee no matter how you look at it.. but, htc has definitely been most loyal upgrading to my knowledge...

I do find it funny there doesn't seem to be a front facing camera on the htc though..

A front facing camera has never been make or break for me.. but, next semester it may be nice to be able to sit down at lunch and actually talk to my girlfriend face to face.

By the time I actually get to the store to get a captivate, the freaken atrix will have been out three months -.-

I can't believe they didn't have any in stock at my local at&t store.. amazes me.. at radioshack we sold one or two.. but, for the most part we had one in stock.

Is anyone else wondering if at&t has any wildcards? if they really have 20 on the way.. We could see things pop up that weren't at ces in the next week or two.

Also.. I wonder if any of them come preinstalled with swype.. or if there would be any issues putting swype on them. I know swype doesn't support some resolutions.. so I am wondering if any of those phones would have problems having it installed.

I also wonder if any of those phones are even going to make their way to my district.

My district is #1 in iphone sales in our state would suck if they just didn't expect to sell a lot of the new phones here.. so the few they do sell get sold out fast...

Why dont you get a captivate from another avenue, radioshack, best buy etc etc I mean they can do all the same things your AT&T store can

Only thing with other stores is that they add something more to the contract like "you must keep this data plan". That is what has made me hesitant to buy a phone from best buy or other places.

That's not true. Best buy never alters my plan

My upgrade isn't until sometime n february.

We were originally gunna pay full price for the phone but, asked if there was anything they could do to help since our upgrade was so close anyway.

She said she could get it "pushed through" so she called in and asked for an emergency upgrade saying my old equipment was not working properly at home.

I worked at radioshack and we never did/knew about anything like that, so I am kinda worried if I go somewhere else they won't be able to do it.

also.. as much as I hate waiting.. if it means I get a soid release date for atrix... then I could very quickly change my tune on not wanting to wait :/

When I brought the flight II back my update reverted to he original time in feb.

If they ask anything about why'd we wait, we can just say we didn't have th emoney at the time for capt.

What I ment that say you had to have this minute plan or a 2GB data plan. You later decide to downgrade it. Some companies can say this is a breach of contract (because it can bE subsidized more or some special offer) and charge you some fee.

I know that when I worked at radioshack our requirements were the same as At&ts for the mostpart.

A required texting plan on feataure phones of up to 20$. (a 30$ family text would work, 20$ for unlimited text or 5$ 200 messages + 15$ unlimited internet) would work.

And data was 15$ or 25$.. for smartphones

as long as you met that you were good.

I know know about other companies minimum voice plans or anything like that.

Yea that's basically what best buy does the plans are through att the phone sale is through them

Sometimes they can depends on how close you are and if they have a good att rep

I think it is feb 27th is when I am suppose to get it.

It would be crappy if they tried to push an "early upgrade" for an extra 200 x.x

Its pretty close..but, I know this lady has done it once already so it seems like she is the safest bet.
