Root OMG! One problem after another w/ CM7

I just jumped in head first as usual. Everything seemed to go fine with the install. I followed the instructions, rebooted. Had trouble setting up google account because I had no connectivity. 0 to 1 bar on 3g. Had a hard time getting wifi to set up but it eventually did. Once wifi started working I was able to get my google account set up ok.

Titanium Backup wouldn't load. Force closed every time. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Made sure the app was on phone not on sd card, then tried putting it on sd card instead of phone. Nothing worked. Tibu won't open.

Maps work but are very slow and lag worse than on stock. I didn't even bother trying MMS.

I decided to forget CM7 and maybe try CM6. I connected my phone to USB to back everything up and that's when the SHIT REALLY HIT THE EFFEN FAN!

I mounted the USB, tried to copy my sd card to a folder on my laptop and something went wrong somewhere. I got a message saying the sd card needed to be formatted prior to use. I tried to unmount the card and my phone then popped up a message saying the sd card is damaged and needs to be reformatted.

I booted the phone into recovery mode and tried to "recover" but got a message saying the E drive is invalid, blah blah blah.

WTF do I do now? Oh how I wish I had just listened to my better judgement and left well enough alone with Icarus. I was so happy with Icarus.

I have my original 2gb card that came with the phone. I don't have a card reader that will handle it, though. I'm kind of stuck at home today with no way to run out and get one either. Not sure what to do from here.

Just shoot me now, please.

Your better off downloading Icarus 1.1, theres no problems at all. It's super fast, and reliable.
CM7 on the other hand is very unreliable.
Just image your in a life or death situation: you worry so much about customization that when you want to call 911, your phone lags, and Dialer force closes.
Good luck at that point!

Yeah, I totally agree. I had Icarus and it was perfect. I should have left well enough alone. Now I can't even flash back to stock. I'm getting a message that says update failed.

ummm I beg to differ, my phones has been completely reliable with CM7. I think you need to get your facts straight.

But ICARUS is a good rom as is cm6.

In all honesty Rhonda you prolly missed a step, or just had a bad flash, it happens when doing these things.

you have CWM installed?

Of course. My sd card fried so I have no backups on sd. I have the original sd card (pre Icarus and root). I managed to swap cards, I dnld the stock zip for Cricket and tried to force update to stock but I get a message that says update failed.

I'm pretty sure that whatever went wrong it started the first time I tried to mount my sd card to my lap top after installing CM7. I mounted the card, opened to view files, I was scrolling through the files when the window went away and was replaced by another window that said I should format my sd card. I thought, "oh, crap" and went to try to unmount the card from the laptop when my phone chimed in with a message saying that my sd card was damaged and needed to be reformatted. Shit just went down hill from there.

I have the original 2gb sd card that came with the phone. I managed to swap cards and I connected my phone to laptob via usb briefly. I was going to move the backups from laptop to phone but the usb connection started acting funny, just like it did right before frying my other sd card. I managed to unmount my sd card this time without frying the card. I'm not going to chance frying the only sd card I have left and I don't have a card reader for micro sd so I'm stuck here until I can go get a card reader or figure something else out.

Well that's it. I connected my phone to laptop to put the stock zip on sd cardand make sure it was in the main folder but that was my last mistake of this whole little adventure.

I tried to flash back to stock again, now my phone doesn't recognize the sd card at all. Neither does the lap top. It's not the sd cards that are bad. It's the hardware. My phone is screwed. I'm at the Huawei logo. Can't go anywhere.

if it's the phone, than its the phone not cm6/7 or icarus...what you can do is download this :http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10008155/MetroStockRecovery-SCRIPTS.zip and extract it to your desktop. open the folder and click metroPCSStock-windows.bat, now with the phone unplug hold Vol down, end key, and tap power. only huawei screen is there, now connect it to the usb and it should do its thing. Many peoples have had problems with there sd cards and the main problem was, they didnt have there sdcard inserted properly.

have you tried a card reader? $12.00 last i checked for universal including compact flash (how the f uses CF?)

also dont put the stock on the sdcard...put it on your desktop...but there is a .zip file to use on sdcard but with the one for the computer is much faster and painless.

I've gotta get a card reader before I can do anything else. I'm too tired to care any more anyway. I'm going to go away from the computer and have a glass or two or three of wine or something.

Sorry, I have to put my two cents in this one. I had a longer lag time using Icarus 1.1 and stock with the dialer than I do with cm6 or cm7. I have used Icarus 1.1, Cm6 AND I'm currently on Cm7. My dialer is instant with cm7, Faster than even Cm6. I'd be more worried about someone dropping their phone and it shattering into pieces than a FC on the dialer.

The bad news is, the phone was DOA. Somehow the drivers for the sd card on the phone got corrupted. The phone would not see the sc card no matter what.
The good news is, Cricket swapped out the phone and I have a brand new phone. Whew.

Glad you got a new phone. Do you plan to modify this one? ^.^ I'm from San Antonio originally by the way.

Ha, ha ha. I knew at least someone would have to ask. I've already got it rooted and de bloated and overclocked. I'm going to leave it this way for a day or two just to get a feel for the difference with Icarus.

I'll probably go back to Icarus for a while. I was so happy with Icarus. When I get bored with Icarus, which I'm sure will happen soon enough, then I will consider CM6/7 again. No hurry though.

well was trying to help ya out, but glad all is good...

I personally think Cyanogen is a fail.
htf would you know if you never tried it????

I do believe the number of ppl that have tried and like far out way those who dont like it. And 99.9% of the issues ppl post up having isnt the ROMs fault but their own.

You sir have a very bad attitude for being on a board were 90% of the ppl mod their phone and.or run custom roms.

Thats ok though, you are allowed to your opinion and all. But dont knock something you evidentially dont have any knowledge on.

maybe you need to stick to pirated software ;)
