Help On Board Memory

I added up all the apps I have on my Moto Triumph, and it totals less than 300 Megs. But it I have less than 70 megs showing available. Considering it's supposed to have 2 GB of on-board (I know 1 GB is used for the OS), it seems a little low. I already moved as much of the apps as I can to the SD card (16 GB class 10). Seems I'm missing about 700 megs, can anyone explain where the rest is going to?

There are .alog files in the stock OS that will do this. There are three options to get rid of them.
1. Factory Reset.
2. Root the phone and delete the files using a file explorer with root access (ES File Explorer is good).
3. Flash a different ROM.

If you don't want to root your phone or flash a ROM, then you have to do a factory reset. :(

Once you root your phone I will make you a package to flash that will improve phone performance and stop the alog files. Just pm me once your rooted

Try uninstalling some of your bigger apps and reinstalling them. It worked for me.

I don't think that is the issue. :( There is a known problem with the alog files increasing in size. Your recommendation would be good except the person said they only have 300mb of apps. :) So that leads me to believe it is the alog files. ;)

well i went ahead and made the package to stop the alog files...

here: alog_tweak_pack.zip

for this to work you have to be running stock or a froyo rom!

just flash it through clockworkmod recovery and then reboot. no need to clear anything.

what it does:

  • Updates kernel to support the init.d script
  • Adds to phones performance

if it doesnt stop the alog files than that means you dont have a folder called "init.d" in /system/etc" just let me know and i will make another one to add that folder ok :D

Well, I did it. I did a restore and re installed all my apps, and guess what? I have 770 megs free:eek: That means what ever this stupid alog file is was using over 700 megs of data, and for a smart phone, that's a lot. Somebody please alert the proper authorities on this matter.

Thank you Ziggy46 for the post regarding blocking the alog file build up, but since this is my main phone, I don't feel comfortable rooting it. It took 9 months for this much data to build up, so maybe I'll have to do another restore before I'm on to my next mobile. I will not buy another one till VM comes out with one that has at 1gb RAM (For proper 30 FPS HD video recording), 4 GB on board memory and running ICS, so I will have to stick with this MT for now. For the most part, I'm really happy with it except for the GPS taking so long to lock on.

Vm won't do anything about the .alog files or Motorola they don't care.

You don't need 1gb of ram to record full HD smoothly (My MT4GS has 3/4 a gb of ram and can record 1080p fine). The HTC One V is the closest you are gonna get to anything if it comes to VM. (It has the same amount of ram, 4gb of internal 2ish taken up by sense, 5mp camera that is far superior than the MT's, running ICS, etc.)

i can include in the package to root your phone for you if youd like... i will test it out on my device before i post it if you want. and i can also make a video of the installation if it makes you more comfortable with rooting. :D

because you can get 50 replacements, but the alog file thing will never stop

Yeah, I created a post at the offical Motorola forums (https://forums.motorola.com/posts/a71b6790e2) which had a link to my original issue/solution I posted here (http://androidforums.com/motorola-triumph/404997-internal-storage-issue.html) back in Aug 2011. I posted in the Motorola forums in the hopes that the bug could be reported and fixed with a legit solution. It turned into a back and forth with a Motorola "employee". One of the later posts from the employee states he reported it as a bug to the company, we'll see. I honestly agree with Marc, I don't think they care enough to fix anything. 7-8 months and there's a list of bugs on their site and no word about any updates or if they are even attempting to work them.

After writing my last post, I happen to notice that the moderator just closed the "common issues" post just a few hours ago! I wonder if that means they are getting around to fixing all the issues we consolidated in their forums...I know, wishful thinking, right? Well, then I noticed in another post on their site (https://forums.motorola.com/posts/1957880f7f?start=61&stop=75) states that someone was notified, twice, that they plan on releasing an update for the Truimph by end of 1st quarter. His quote from March 14th below.

After I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau concerning the outright fraudulent claims by Motorola concerning the GPS & Bluetooth issues I was contacted by Antoinette Robinson from Sprint's Executive & Regulatory Services Group. She stated that Motorola has acknowledged the issues with the 2 above mentioned & that a software update would be released by the end of the 1st quarter 2012. This was sometime mid January when I spoke with her. Never mind that at the time they were sending me my 5th replacement phone since 9/11 due to the constant issues I have been experiencing with the charge port rendering the phone useless within a months time. In January she was able to approve a new phone still in the package instead of a refurbished unit. That went back mid February because of the same issue & I was sent the 6th unit. Same problem. I am now on my 7th phone (soon to be 8th) so I filed another complaint with BBB. Antoinette Robinson again was the person who responded on 3/12/12. She reiterated Motorola's promise for an update by the end of the 1st quarter 2012 which only leaves a couple of weeks. For some reason I'm not optimistic about the deadline she gave me but I'm more concerned about what Motorola plans on doing about the defective charge port which will ultimately render the phone a brick unless you have a good solder unit & a steady hand. Who knew $300 could turn into such a nightmare.

Well if she keeps saying that and they don't then someone could probably file a lawsuit against them... Although I don't know if even that would do anything.

I remember being sold POS mobile called the Samsung Behold II. Yes, I was one of the suckers that fell for Samusngs/TMobiles BS. Trusted Samsung as all my past experiences with their hardware was A+++. Fast forward to all Behold owners signing a for a class action lawsuit, and absolutely nothing coming of it. By the time the lawsuit would be viewed by a court, we'll be sporting 5G mobiles that can read our minds.

Ms. Antoinette Robinson's (Sprint's Executive & Regulatory Services Group) direct numbers I advise every person experiencing even the slightest issue with their Motorola Triumph to call her & voice their concerns. She can be reached Monday-Friday CST at 817-215-3662 or toll free at 877-291-5717.

ok here you go! heres the video and the updated zip that will stop your system from being taken up from alog files

download: alog_tweak_pack.zip

How to flash alog file remover (for Froyo roms and MIUI) - YouTube
I know that this thread is over a year old, but ziggy46 seems to have put together an awesome fix for the low space warnings on the Motorola Triumph. I downloaded your zip file and watched your video, but I still can't install the file. My phone is not rooted yet. Here's my problem. I have your zip file on my SD card. When I reboot the phone in recovery mode, the option to install alog_tweak_pack.zip is not listed as a menu option like in your video. How do I get it to show up, so I can install it?

It's a flashable zip, so if you have your stock recovery still, you'll need to install a custom recovery... Most commonly clockwork mod recovery.

If you have already done that, boot to recovery and when you click install, CWM will show you a list of everything on your SD card. From there you must navigate to wherever it was that you downloaded the file. Most commonly in the /downloads directory.

You're absolutely right! That was the problem. Once I installed CWM, I was able to open/execute alog_tweak_pack.zip. I hope that solves the alog problem once and for all! I also was able to install Gingerbreak and got my phone rooted. I'm not sure if this was an Android or Motorola issue but, in either case, it's inexcusable! I have spent hours and hours on this problem, over a 2-day period. I like my phone, but you can bet your life that my next phone will run iOS! Thanks so much to thangfish and ziggy46 for their expertise and help to other techno-challenged users through these forums.
