Help On/Off - Power Button

didnt mean to be sarcastic, but, as you should know, if you have been on the internet for the 20+ years that I have, people tend to mega-overexaggerate problems they might be having, and always UNDER REPORT the positive things..
I am sure that plenty of people are having some hardware issues with their phones; after all, no phone is perfect, except for the Iphone.( veiled sarcasm)

but, the minute someone reports a weird problem with their equipment on the internet, you can bet your bottom dollar that suddenly ALOT of people will think they have the same issue, and, even if they don't they try to convince themselves that they do..The Lemming principal, in all its glory..

Anyway, anyone having this problem should just take the phone back and let the store determine if you have a real or imaginary problem...until then, get the "No Lock" program, and enjoy your phone instead of obsessing over it..

Agree 100%
Like I said, the most frustrating part of this to me is that I love this phone! I really do and it upsets me that something (in the grand scheme of things) so small is detracting from the otherwise great experience I am having with it.

I am almost reluctant to try a replacement because this damn thing is performing so well in other areas!

I am going to try No Lock!! ;)

My advice, for what it is worth of course, would be to take these phones into a VZW store and show them the phone and voice your concerns in a firm but friendly manner. I for one love this phone and simply want a unit with no issues.

Remember, these devices (for the most part) need to last the length of your contract and if you are legitimately not happy, let them know!

I actually have the recess on the left side. It's plain as day to see. Just installed no lock and all is good. Maybe we are all pushing to hard to turn it on. Who knows lol.

Mine is nothing like that, so it won't be true with all handsets, although it may be a common occurrence. If you're that worried about it I'd check into getting a replacement.

I'm not that worried about it at all. Nothing in life is perfect, and if a slightly depressed button is my biggest problem, so long as it doesn't have an adverse effect on functionality, I will live.

And obviously the use of the word "all" was a bit extreme, but I would not be surprised if over time a large majority of Incredibles experience the button being pushed in. It's wear and tear, and it happens on most manufactured devices in some form. Perfection is hard to achieve.

I do think people are overreacting way too much in here. Unless and until it actually causes performance issues, it's of little-to-no concern IMO.

Locoman, I know this is asking a lot, but any chance you can post pics of your on/off button for those here that are not sure about theirs? Maybe if they see one that does not have the problem it will put some minds at ease?

Well, I took a picture and I don't know how to upload it. I clicked on the icon "Insert Image" and it asks for a URL. Is there a way to upload directly from my computer? I looked but couldn't find a way. Can someone enlighten me!

Ok...you guys aren't getting it. If it was just as you guys described then I can stand it. The recessed side of the power button is not as tactile as it was before and it has proven itself harder to be pressed before the phone recognizes that it was pressed vs. the none recessed side. There is a performance difference here and not just that it's a bit recessed.

The concern raises more seeing that it's only been about a little above 2 WEEKS and this has came up. Are you willing to trust that button for 2 years if you were in my spot?

Click on my name and click "View Public Profile" see if you can see my Album. I uploaded several pictures there!

All, here are Locoman's pics, I uploaded the two that show the button the best.

For the people wondering what I am experiencing, I cannot see my button from either angle like you can see in these pics...

Wow...what an un-informed response. I don't know about you but I'd like a working 200USD equipment and get the most of what I paid for especially for that amount. If I were you, just keep quiet because you won't be able to win any debate with me...not that I really care but it's sad that you try to put a one liner comeback to me.

Locoman: Thank you for the photos

Your Welcome.:D

No need to debate anything with you dude, you were the one who said he didn't need "any shit from me"..

As I and many others have said, if you have a real problem with your hardware, just take it back to where you bought it, and they will determine if it should be replaced...

Just curious. Is everyone who has this issue has a silicone case and does the case cover the on off power button. My BB silcone case did and so when you pressed it, you actually push the button in farther in than you should if you didn't have the silicon case on and using your bare finger when you pressed it. So by pressing it in farther than it should, it gets stuck in rather than popping back up to it's normal position. In other words it's been pressed in to far!

No Loco, no case here.

REALLY?!?! Where did you get those numbers? Of the "100,000+" of these phones sold, how many of the users are members of this site? And of those "100,000+" users, how many have you spoken to and gotten their feedback on the phone? Have you traveled to these peoples locations and personally seen their devices? Have you checked out the phones of the "45 here" mentioning it as an issue?

You offered advice on the "No Lock" App and it is appreciated but you're trying to convince people, some of which this is probably a big expense for, that they are imagining things and you are doing it with increasing sarcasm. I tried to be neutral about it with you and agree that there MAY be some who are being overly obsessive about it, but you seem to be fixated on dismissing everyone's concern as frivolous.

If your phone is perfect, I'm happy for you! But just because other people are having problems does not detract from the positive experience you are having.

I feel your pain.. the power button is the bane to my existence. I too feel that I should be able to use this button on and off as well- it's a pricey piece of machinery. I like my phone locking, I use a lock code on it as well ... so getting the phone to not lock is not an option for me. Everyday I pull my power button back out and then by the end of the day it is stuck back in. Normally I wouldn't care about this, except a lot of times it won't unlock and has actually powered itself on because of the power button and has not let me unlock it because it is stuck.

I bought mine from bestbuy, so I figure I need to return it there, only problem is I am on the east coast right now and my wife and receipt are on the west coast...:(

I have the same problem and do not use any case or covers. However, I do notice that if I remove the battery cover, the button works as intended. So I believe that it may be the battery cover pressing against the button preventing it to operate properly. My thoughts are to take a tiny file and file the cut out for the power button on the battery cover. Has anyone else tried this?

I have not, but for the people who's button is getting "stuck", you may have just offered a nice simple fix...depending of course on peoples bravery! :D

I took a very sharp exacto knife and gently "planed" the plastic around the button on the battery cover. My button no longer sticks and I will report back in a day or two to see how this holds out.

I apologize for going a little off topic, but will VZW exchange the Inc because of dust underneath the screen?

I figured this out myself as my power button was getting stuck and not allowing me to unlock and not allowing me to lock etc... I noticed someone else said they took an exacto knife tot he battery case, well as I was drinking a beer I just took the bottle cap and gently rubbed it on the battery case around the power button (the side that came off)- you can't tell I did anything, but the darn thing sits just fine now and pops all the way out no problems. I went from getting very worried/annoyed to happy in about 2 seconds. I suggest everyone else do something similar. You don't need to cut it out, just slightly rub w/ something sharp-

Noted above I did the same w/ a beer bottle cap. Looking at the battery cover it doesn't look like I cut anything but the button doesn't stick anymore isn't flush and works properly. I am freaking stoked about it as it was driving me bonkers.

Any update on who brought theirs back in?

I think I'm going to wait a little and see if I can get a different Inc from another manufacturing group.

Blah, I don't want to reconfigure my crap.

i've had mine exactly a month yesterday, and mine seems to be fine. I just press mine, and that's all it needs really.

I watch my mom type and she bangs the keys on the keyboard, I don't think she realizes you can just touch them lightly and it will work. Same issue here?

Nah, I push my button lightly.

I think I'm going to being it back Saturday while i can still exchange it for a new phone, vs refurbished.

My button on the left side is completely flush with the top of my phone.
