Root One Stop Shopping for Fascinate Kernels

1. Yes
2/3. Use red for everything

Is there a downside to using regular cwm for flashing stuff? I've been using it to flash themes, fonts, and other voodoo versions and haven't noticed any issues. Ive been using red cwm onle to disable the lagfix.

That's a question for someone smarter than me :)

Green won't make a proper nandroid, beyond that I dunno.

Thats for someone smarter than me also. But I don't think that it would hurt to flash themes for example.. But like I said I would wait for that smarter guy for an answer ;)

I actually flashed the matted blues theme from within the red cwm with no issues whatsoever....so now not only is my SF faster than it ever was but now it looks awesome as well ;-)

Once again, thanks to all on these forums for the quick responses and great advice!

So, based in that I should take a new nandroid in red cwm and I can use that if needed to get back to where I am today?

Thanks!!!

Yeah the only thing you can't due in green recovery if you are using red is properly.backup/restore......and disabling voodoo of course. :)

However there is really no need to go into green recovery if you have built in reboot options anyway as that is the prefered way to get into recovery anyway....and 3 button recovery boots to red

Yes I can confirm that you can use the traditional rom manager / green cwm for theme flashing and the like however, recently RM seems to be on the fritz or something [hence the multiple updates]. So I exclusively use the red cwm

yeah i mean unless your on the stock theme with now reboot options...its actually more time consuming to go into rom manger and hit reboot recovery

Yea I use red cw to flash everything. I was responding to an earlier post asking if you have red cw can you use other cw to flash themes, fonts, etc. ;)

when bird was in this morning he thought he had an idea about how to make the kernel boot android...but wasnt sure if he had to actually physically open up a fascinate to see something...then he said he had an idea around that...and kinda disappeared

afaik he has no build booting

exact quote "oh wait, i haz a plan" and then poof he was off

Any word on the progress of this?

I follow him on twitter and haven't seen anything groundbreaking yet but he is working working

I am curious about something. After looking far and wide I have not been able to find anything that birdman has out for the Fascinate. Can you or the others in the know point me to a kernel or ROM that birdman has done for the Fascinate?

As for what I understand, correct me if I'm wrong, bird does the bigger level builds. For the smaller things he builds then others compile it and put it together.

with the exception of a few things here and there, birdman doesnt really "release" stuff. really he from a fascinate perspective he:

1. first integrated bln into kernels, and all kernels built since then have come from that jt/birdman build
2. got a lot of the aosp stuff working, which going forward is really important (he and jt were all aosp pretty much by themselves)
3. has a .35 kernel booting, and is working on (may have done it already) upgrading out bootloaer to accept it and boot android

is he going to be the guy releasing a ton of roms/kernels/mods? no...are he and jt ultimately responsible for all the major things done for aosp/gb etc...yes

hes more of a big ticket guy...hes always working on stuff in the background :)

Got it. Thanks.

So after installing otb ul1100 I added the matted blues theme and have been practicing my adb skills and pushed a few startup animations. I just noticed when going into contacts or messaging it seems to be a bit slow, even got a fc within contacts a couple of times. Just for grins I went into recovery wiped davlik cache and reapplied my theme. No fc's but contacts are still slow. Does this mean I should try a different kernel?

best to try a few different kernels, and see what works best for you

Will do..thanks Nitsu!

Edit: went to the otb 1100sv and now it is very responsive. I will play around over the next few days and find out which one works best for my phone....like you said ;-)

Thanks!!!

Is anyone having issues with the camcorder when running these kernels? I was running 1200uv for a couple days with no issues at all. I tried using the camcorder and it freezes in the first 5seconds and I have to pull the battery. Happens everytime.

I thought it might be due to the undervolted kernel so switched to the 1200sv. Again everything runs perfectly but the camcorder now freezes around the 20sec mark.

Just wondering if others are seeing the same.

Can't say i've ever had that issue...but wiping cache tends to fix a lot of weird issues like that

That could also just be your phone cannot handle the 1200Mhz

Thanks for the replies. Ill try wiping cache as a starter and if that doesn't work ill work backwards.

A lot of people had camcorder problems, that's why the last ones nemesis released were standard voltage

I never had to pull a battery but the cam did fail to record a couple of times, worked other times

Wow I never knew that was a primary reason behind that, good info :).

On some semi related news it appears adryns earlier theory seems to be right. Any more than -100mv just does not take right. I was underwhelmed with imnuts -150mv and I suppose thats why. Im currently on his -100mv but I have to imagine by this time tomorrow will be back on nemesis. Although imnuts is now adding steps into his kernels. He added a 600Mhz step and is pondering adding a 1200 or something :)

-75 seems smoothest for my phone, could be in my head. That's what the otb's and adryn had for mid range so kinda makes sense.

I want a big uv on low end, about 75 mid range, but more uv on top since that seems stable. Imnuts said he would make it, he's really cranking them out
