Root One Stop Shopping for Fascinate Kernels

Does JT even make any stock voltage kernels? The reason I ask is because I occasionally have this weird issue where I'll hit the back or home softkeys, and the whole softkey panel will freak out and start flickering and blinking, and become unresponsive. I have to hit the lock/power key to get them to snap back to normal. It's really annoying and I can't think of a kernel I've tried that doesn't suffer from the problem to some degree, which makes me wonder if it's a UV issue.
Unless otherwise stated jt tends to uv by -50mv

Well some good news for the kernel-luvers out there. Nemesis2all is in fact not dead in a ditch. He finally made the move the droid life irc and was showing off what clearly is his froyo kernel, out-linpacking the jt by .5mflops. So no cares about that I know but its great to see the man with the rep for OC/UV is on board for and already making .32 froyo kernels

Oh just had a nice PM chat. He promises OTB will live on and thanks to SirGatez the multiple step kernel apparently is cracked and we should look forward to the uber kernel. One to rule them all. That is, 1300, 1200, 1100, 1000, 800, [maybe 600], 400, 200 and 100 steps. Score! So it'll be something for everyone

Awesome. I have been checking this board constantly since the leak. I've convinced myself that the quieter it is, the more that is going on. Glad to hear more progress is being made.

Yup, yup, yup
Haven't been following the Froyo updates lately...we don't have a full-Froyo rom yet do we?
WE dont but THEY do. I dont think Im speaking out of school to proclaim that the rumored leak of 1/25 is factual and its also not the only one they have. Apparently the scrub job on the watermarking was no small feat. Further, until its ready I dont think we will hear many peeps about how close it is till its being uploaded for public consumption. Apparently not everyone was a fan of how public stuff got yesterday with all the twittering and then the multiple headlines on android rumors sites [including here]. So as if the wagons werent circled before hand they sure as sugar are tight now. They arent saying much but lets put this way I know enough to know not to stay awake tonight watching irc for the 1st upload link ;) sorry if thats a bubble burst

But do you know enough to know that I should buy a flat of Rockstar energy drinks for IRC watching this weekend? ;)

Seriously though, they've done such a great job thus far that they can take their time. I'm just thankful we are so lucky for their work.

:eek::p;)
I would ;) PK just moved into a new house or something so real life is delaying his progress time, it happens, extra couple days isnt killing us more than Samsung already has for 4 months

yeah, i understand the reasons for people clamoring and begging for a full froyo rom (we've all waited for a very long time)...but the sense of entitlement ive seen in irc/xda mainly is ridiculous....its outright begging and demanding for releases.

i would say that those with the leak dont owe anyone, anything....when they feel its ready to be released/shared we should be grateful for what they give us, not going nuts over when its coming out.

one of the things i really liked about this community for a really long time was how great so many people in the root community were...in the last 2 months (and this is directed at no one person) is that while the quantity has gone up, so has the some other less than desirable things

This is great news. Until we get a Froyo ROM i think i'm set with jt's 1/23 kernel. This thing has been amazing. I usually lose somewhere between 10-15% battery overnight, but with jt's kernel i lose around 5-6% and as i mentioned before it is very snappy for my phone.

I'm in no rush really to try out Froyo ROM's. As much as i want it i need pretty much every aspect of my phone working so i'll be waiting for you guys to QA the hell of out it :D

Which one is that? Is that with new voodoo? Cuz it seems like my battery life sucks ass now since I flashed new voodoo

Yeah jt's 1/23 build that saps has linked in the first post is a voodoo kernel with the voodoo sound. Try it out and see how you like it.

Not sure if it's intentional or not but the jt "1/24" kernel referred to in the first post links to a file with a 1/23 name. Could cause confusion.

That just comes with the territory. As any population grows this will happen. Its like go to a small sports bar and 1/10 of fans are obnoxious. But go to a bigger sports bar and the percentage goes up a bit and the overall quantity really goes up. So from 1 out of 10 to 10 out of 50 by way of example. I mean we both remember irc when there were what 30-50 in there at any given time. There's 175 in there now and I've seen 215 in the past day. Honestly, its no different than AF here. The SF sub section has grown in recent months and many of the quips of irc I would echo hear. The difference being the overall demeanor of course. Perhaps Im immune to it, but this is the result of our instant gratification society. I mean this is what twitter is. Im not even on twitter myself yet I have PK's tab open. I actually think its beautiful he hasnt had a tweet in 2 days and loved the message he gave to the Eris crowd. So yeah pump your brakes or whatever you wanna call it.
My take is this is just going to happen, we cant control others from this sense of entitlement. All we can control is our own response to it. And there in lies part of the escalating problem in irc or in the sports bars. In the sports once you get a knucklehead or two in there, sometimes normally level-headed peeps can then justify escalating their own poor behavioral choices. Its what happened in xda frankly. That place went from a gold mine to a reality tv show. Sure there was a boom of ridiculous questions and statements from newbie/eager beavers but IMO equal in fault to the xda decline was the response of some of the established brain trust. It quickly turned into a name calling and berating Springer show in some threads and who wins there? Who's at fault there? He started it is a childs defense. So yeah I grew very disenchanted with xda for that reason. I didnt like reading all that jibba-jabba. I mean some of the people I respect and admire the most for their work made some of the poorest choices with their comments IMHO.
So yeah the day of the leak revealed it was downright silly in irc. Capt muted the channel a few times and good for him. I respect that big time. In fact he even took voice from a few of the old school regular who were pushing things too far against newer faces. No one wins in a name calling, berate-a-thon. I mean Im well aware Im quite a bit older than the median population in irc or xda [debatable if Im any wiser :p] but sometimes I just wanna scream grow up. However, if Im not part of the solution Im part of the problem. So unless I can be constructive I keep my mouth shut and stay out of it.
Thats kinda the downfall of irc now is despite best efforts truly only Capt is policing that place, other than self policing wish from time to time of course will fail. Thats also the trump card this place has over irc despite a vastly larger viewing audience. But this place is well moderated and so its less of an issue. Not to mention the overall climate is just more civil. I mean right this minute there are over 8000 active users here in AF. Granted not all in SF subsection but still. I do branch out of this neighborhood a bit and I never see the stuff that occurs in xda or irc. I mean even in the politics and current affairs section where it begs for conflict its almost always civil and appropriate.

Im not sure how I got in this soapbox  or what Im trying to say other than sometimes folks are inappropriate and make sub-optimal choices with their comments. All we can do is make our own comments and reactions appropriate and optimal.

very nice and well thought out post saps :)

i think i get caught in the "remember when" frame of mind, and probably remembering those irc times in a more positive light then they really were. but frankly i maybe post 10-15 total lines in irc per day now...its just...well not worth it.

Yeah same here I just watch and listen mostly, same with xda. I definitely do more PMing than public posting. It is what it is though, I'd still rather have both irc and xda as is than not having them. Its like a supreme pizza only you cant pick off the toppings you dont like

I love how people think PK and JT are holding froyo hostage. Like they wouldn't be as excited to release it as we would be to use it. But some people never seem to be able to quench their "want".

Seriously, just sit back, shut up, and wait for the good things to roll in when they're ready.

Or do what I do, hit the F5 button repeatedly. :D

Yeah PK came into irc just a short awhile ago and actually did a tremendous job to answer questions and clear the air. The short version is its ready for release and will be released once enough VZW testers have it. Now we just sit back and wait

makes sense...once its out to testers...less chance of being traced back :)

did he mention if sms is fixed or not?

He only mentioned Clockwork didnt work, like at all yet. It was maddening. Like we said above. Everyone and their dog [not chopper :p] was bombarding him with questions. The room got muted, but some of the old school regulars as well as new guys with voices I dont know well keep slamming him with questions. So he made a few overarching comments and then left. So he didnt get into what did any didnt work. It sounds like they have the proposed final TW version so everything should work that will be in TW version, hence the no CWM.

But yeah the "delay" is over the tracing issue. Just too few total people have this version so watermark or not its still easy to trace the leak today.

So yeah everyone can and should expect several days of just chillin out. Obviously the behind the scenes stuff is still going on with Cm6 and aosp and nemesis building kernels et al. But nothing will see the light of day till its green lighted. Even if PK wanted to give an ETA he couldnt because its not in his or jt's hands. Its jump to Sammy to get it to enough VZW testers. How long will that take? More than a minute less than a month. ;)

I'm just about to take the jump and install JT's 1/23 Kernel. I notice it's Voodoo (if I understood correctly) and wondered if there's any suggestions you'd have before I made the jump from the Clean 0.5/SuperDark ROM

I'm with you guys on wanting the Froyo rom right now, but at the same time I think well once I have it's not really going to make that much difference overall. It's just a phone and it can only do so much. If anything I think alot of it is just that this is our thing that we use to focus our attention away from other stuff, or the current hobby. Heck once spring rolls around and it comes time to get back to work on my old car I probably won't even care as much about the updates. Just casually watch it. Although flash would be pretty nice, as well as app to sd.

Yeah jt's 1/23 is voodoo ext4 as well as voodoo sound. As long as you understand whats entailed with the filesystem conversion it no different than flashing another kernel other than the extra few minutes of conversion.

Great perspective. Yeah the phone is still phone and it'll just get a tad bit better

Would I like to have Froyo right now? HELL YEAH! I'd rather wait and have it be rock-solid, though. I (like many) have been stung by being "first on my block" far too many times. :)

Hell, that was a helluva lot easier than anticipated: boot to CWM, run update.zip, run the upgrade from the zip file, reboot, let it convert...DONE! I didn't even lose my settings. :D

Yeah even with voodoo4 getting voodoo on was never the issue. Getting it off was a different story. These days its much simpler and trouble free. About the only mistake you can make now is flashing non voodoo over voodoo
