One X vs Samsung Galaxy S3

Charge it properly and you'll get much longer than that out of it. You drastically shorten the life of Lithium batteries if you do full charge/discharge cycles. The original battery in my Desire HD is still going strong after 18 months. :)

Thanks for the advice and reassurance but I'm not sure what you mean by "charge it properly".

Unless you frequently top up during the day I would bet many people (myself included) start at about 08:00 with a battery at 100% and plug it in about 22:00 with the level getting very low.
This is normal usage not mis-usage.

After about a year the Desire battery was OK but a fresh battery made it like a new phone. I respectfully suggest that if you replaced the battery in your DHD you would be surprised how much it had deteriorated.

If/when I get my One X, a year down the road it would be a great shame if an otherwise superb phone in mint condition has sh*gged battery.

Well, in regards to Lithium batteries, letting it get very low is mis-usage. I rarely let my battery get below 40%, the lower you let the battery level get, the more charge it loses over time. There's a good bit of info here: How to Prolong Lithium-based Batteries - Battery University

Potentially, but then there was no need as it was still performing as I would expect to. With similar usage, I'm sure the One X will hold up as well. :)

I have to agree with a lot of people here that the lack of a removable battery in the one x is a big concern for me, but I suppose I can always get a power pack if needs be. The only other thing holding me back is that the worst network in my country (Ireland) currently has an exclusive on the white version of the one x and I'm not moving carriers.
The S3 has some really nice really nice software features which have given me pause before I make my decision.
Since I'm not due for an upgrade for about two weeks I think I'll mull it over over for a while and wait until there are some proper reviews out.
Bar the the actual looks of the S3 I don't really know what people were disappointed about, did they expect it to allow them to time travel.
For myself it's going to be a decision between looks vs battery and Sense vs Touchwiz.

I waited for the S3 before buying a new phone and was not impressed so ordered a HTC One X in grey this morning, its a much nicer phone IMO plus it doesn't have TouchWiz which i hated on my Galaxy S2

The wireless charging sounds nice but it's probably a bit gimmicky in practice...

"Gimmicky" was something that came to mind a lot during Samsung's big reveal. For instance, the pop up video feature sounds cool initially but...what the hell is anyone going to use it for? You're going to reduce a video to a tiny box on your screen so you can go do...what? IM? Text? Why have the video playing anyway? Having Youtube running something while you're tapping away an email on a big pc monitor is one thing, doing it on a 4.8" screen is just dopey.

I mean, the phone is going to be great, I'm sure. This isn't about bashing the S3. I was just taken aback, like a great many other people, that there wasn't more. Samsung got Samsung'd by their own Apple-like expectations.

I'm the same. Was waiting for the 'unveiling' of the S3. Now its been 'unveiled', im going for a OneX ;)

I see a lot of people talking about the 300mA battery difference, but you also need to figure in Samsung's 32n process (which was used in the new revision of the iPad2, Anandtech tested it and it gives the iPad2 revision basically 2 more hours battery life for gaming/video/browsing so it seems like a fairly significant improvement).

Personally I'm glad I was given my One X for free, because in most regards apart from screen, build, and looks the S3 trumps the One X for my usage:

Better DAC, once Supercurio writes Voodoo Sound for the S3 it's sound quality will destroy the One X (anyone who really cares about SQ really have only one option)
GLONASS in the GP
Better SoC/GPU
Better storage (essential for my use, can't wait to load a bunch more of my collection as FLACs on my phone)
Bigger and removable battery (needs to be considered in concert with the 32nm implementation as mentioned)
Camera is likely to be better (since the S3 has a BSI sensor, which is an improvement over the S2/Note camera, which is already better than the One X camera for still image quality)
USB on the go functionality

The One X is a fine phone, but apart from the screen it's components don't really stack up anywhere, and TouchWiz for me is largely irrelevant since I'll use an alternate launcher regardless (again that is part of why I say for my use-case scenarios the S3 is a very clear choice above the One X, the One X is a fine choice for many users and still an excellent phone). Worth pointing out that I care less about aesthetics than function, so the One X's better looks do nothing to sway me, whereas people who place a lot of importance on looks will definitely choose the One X.

I believe that you will find that HTC is claiming that the One X camera is also backside illuminated (BSI). ;)

Yep, I'm aware of that - what I was saying is the One X camera is already worse than the S2 camera which is not BSI, so it seems very likely it'll be worse than the S3 camera which is BSI.
