Optimize your Droid Eris battery life (READ THIS)

CXXV doesn't understand the difference between the data side and the phone/text side. Everyone uses their phones as best suits their individual needs!

I do. But on other phones, namely BB's, turning off mobile turns off everything. That was a great feature for night time.

This was never made clear.

If you want the phone completely off at night, put it in Airplane Mode. That will shut off everything.

I liked that when you turned off your BB it would turn itself back on to sound your alarm. That was a nice feature. I just turn off the mobile network when I sleep now and I kinda notice a little difference the next day. Probably just my imagination though.

If you turn off your mobile network, you should definitely notice a difference! By shutting my mobile network off while sleeping, I can charge every other day, rather than daily.

It's absolutely ridiculous to ever turn off the mobile network. Just turn off the whole phone then.

Do you turn off your phone at home at any time? The whole point is to be able to receive calls wherever and whenever. Otherwise why have a cell phone at all.

First and foremost it is a PHONE for heaven's sakes.

I still charge it every night because my usage varies. I've always done that with my phones though so no big deal.

From what I gather after skimming/reading this thread, the 3g isn't auto turned off when wifi is on and connected at home. Even tho I don't see the little 3g icon on the bar. So it would be best for me to manually toggle it off when home. And manually toggle wifi when driving unless I am doing drive-by searches for free internet.

When I'm at home connected wifi I turn Mobile off or if I'm giong to be somewhere wehre I know I'm not going to be using my phone unless I get at call or text I shut mobile off. But I can get over 2 days of battery out of my Eris with pretty much normal activity

If you turn Mobile Network off you still recieve calls and texts . You just need to turn it back on when you want to access anything over the web.. I have a toggle on my screen so that when I'm at work, or just not going to be using my phone I turn it off. Makes a huge diffrence in battery life. It basiclly makes your phone a regular phone using just the regular 1x network

I am curious. My wife and I both have the eris and do not want to get rid of these phones. Really like them. We are considering grabbing the 3500 battery for each of our phones, but what do you do about the cover if you are using one. My wife picked ours up and mine is the snap on black leather from verizon and hers is a standard silicone cover from verizon. I am curious if either if these covers will work if we get the 3500 and the little bit of difference in size on it. I do not know if she got a better price than online shows, but mine showed $24.99 for a freaking cover and I would rather not have to buy another one, but I do not like the feel without it.

The 3500 is a bigger battery and requires the new back that comes with. If you get it your case won't fit anymore. No idea if they make cases to fit with that though.

I am sure this has been beaten to death here, but I can't decipher the real answer with all the different posts, so I will just try and ask this the best way I can.

Yesterday, I ran Mobile Network all day with a good amount of uses on the phone. I unplugged my phone in the morning at 6:15 and when I got home from work at 4:30, I had 43% left on the battery. Definitely acceptable to me. Ended up with 9% on it at 11:00 last night. I have no problem with that usage. Seems decent enough for how much I was messing with it during the day.

Now today, i have tried to use the Wi-Fi. I seem to be dropping quicker with it on. I don't obviously know for sure since it is early, but I am down to 90% from the same times on and it seems like that is faster.

My question is this.

Is it ok in everyones thoughts to have both Wi-Fi and Mobile Network on together? (if I also have Enable mobile Network Always on OFF and I have my Wi-Fi not searching for new Wi-Fi connections). My Wi-FI at work and home are remembered, so I have no need to search. This seems to me that during work, Wi-fi would be in use saving battery, when I get in car to go home, Mobile Netwrok would take over, and when I get in the house, Wi-Fi would kick back in. Thus not losing signal and draining any battery??

Good or Bad???? Thanks for looking and reading a long post.

Ok help me on this one. I locked my phone up and had to do a hard rest. I wiped the whole phone clean. I went in and redownloaded everything but pandahome and the themes for that. I recently purchased open home and a mustang theme. I'm still running the default message app with sms pop up. I have a task killer and have done the brightness setting plus turned WiFi and blue tooth off. My problem happened today I was running 14% before last night. I turned my phone off to charge which I never do and when I turned it on it stayed at 100% for half the day. I restarted the phone and now I'm at 42% what could have happend.

I just want to report that I bought the Seidio 1750 from Amazon for $41. They have the 3500 for $59.74. The 1750 is eligible for free shipping.

Thanks for the heads up. Glad that they have come down in price though it's still more than I'm willing to pay for a "free" phone. :)

Hey guys, I'm running 2.1 and using the same settings I had on 1.5 and although the 2.1 doesn't give you a percentage of awake time, the awake vs on times are only off by a few seconds :( I am running handcent SMS and turned off the stock sms...

Did you update your handcent? There's a thread down below talking about this, I believe.

edit: I may be wrong. They may have been talking about the fix for delivery fail notification.

Thanks for the tip, I'll look for that thread, either way it'll be helpful, those false fails are annoying as heck lol

As far as I know my handcent is up to date but I'll double check :)
