Root Optimizing for Performance

It downloaded, showed up in the notification bar, I went to it and hit "okay" to have it go to clockwork for me.

No backup, wiped cache haha :P

I can't personally say how that rom is the last one I loaded before I got voodoo was 11/15 but if its in rom manager its good..my biggest thing to tell you is give boot screen time it takes a lil while don't automatically do battery pull

Tried a different download...same blank screen. So you're saying give it time to load or something along those lines?

Think I really did brick my phone. It's not letting me go to apply a zip "stock" file like before, and I can't get to the main screen...

I don't see that you could have bricked it just doing a rom from rom manager. Try doing a battery pull for at least 30 seconds then try clockwork again

OK I will be back in an hour and then here for hours to assist with the problem, so for now and until Im back, nklenchik, can you clarify for me exactly what you can and cannot do right now with your phone. Does it boot into the homescreen at all? When you hold both buttons in can you boot into recovery at all? davidnmegan6907 is right that kernel flashing alone should not have given you any problems, unless you flashed a non voodoo kernel over a voodoo kernel thats a no-no. Hopefully, you will respond in the next hour and we can diagnose and fix this weirdness for you

glad i found something that just works. my next demon is froyo. these people
who arnt fully informed are going to be bricking their phone by the hundreds.
WHICH WILL LEAD TO LOCKDOWN! There is a huge reflashing / refurbishing place near my house and they work 3 shifts. and that place costs money for the carriers / manufacturers.

i think these devs should just sell their wares & go legit instead of having a bunch of "experts" in irc channels that are there to brick phones more than for anything else.

Well this is what I did...
I completely reset back to stock and backed up everything on the sd. It took a while, but I finally got everything going again. This time I'm not installiing one click lag fix and the phones been runing faster lol

i agree that misinformed people bricking and returning phones is an issue that leads to device lockdown....really most of these "bricked" phones are completely fixable with a little effort...drives me nuts

i disagree with the whole irc thing..or maybe im not understanding what you are saying....the real experts on this phone constitute like maybe 5 people and they have shown their preference for not realeasing work based on an a leak on forums...and i cant blame them for that

really it forces people to come out from the woodwork and join the community to get the files they want. and i dont think anyone in irc is there to "brick" phones....i think there are a lot of individuals in general who try and do stuff to their phones they dont understand and then blame others.

the fascinate in general tends (well from what ive seen) to bring out some very arrogant individuals who think they know more than they do and then clog up xda with ridiculous complaints and topics

it doesnt take long/or a lot of effort to understand what you are doing, and that would solve most of these issues.

yeah one click lagfix doesnt work and it has caused people some uninstall issues...you should be good to go going forward :)

yeah i read through the thread and thought "uh oh" but im glad hes good to go

Hey, this is my first post after 4 days of reading all the forums to root and flash my SF Nitsuj17 and Saps, and all the other pros, thanks for turning my phone into a rocket. I still have some questions, but after rooting, figuring out Odin and clockwork and all the acronyms, I think I'm on my way. hmmm maybe I'll make a call with my phone...ha ha.

Really, thanks so much. I'm keeping on my learning curve. I may pop in with some questions, but for now, I'm very thankful. Running 11/15uv All went well. Wondering if there is anything else I can do at this point to get the most out of the phone?

Thanks

welcome to the fun :)

really if you are happy with the phone right now...take a few days and enjoy it.

if at that point you feel the need to upgrade to the DJ05 leak...then drop into irc #samsung-fascinate and introduce yourself....the files are only available in there

Will do. I'm not sure what upgrading to dj05 means, but I'm assuming by going into irc #samsung-fascinate and reading around I'd get a clue. Quick question, is this something I do with the RomManager or something completely different? If it's a dumb question, I'll go back to reading after my eyes recover from the last 4 days :)
really, thanks for all the time you have put into helping people out.

DJ05 was a leaked mr ota from verizon that addresses some issues...mainly gps...changelog is here

http://androidforums.com/samsung-fascinate/217803-update-coming-but-not-2-2-a.html

it is available for download in irc only...and includes both an upgraded radio file to flash in odin and then you need a rom/kernel combo to to be fully upgraded.

most (if not all) development work is based upon it so almost all new kernels/roms/themes only work for it

we can also revert our radios as well in case verizon decides not to release it and patch the radio for froyo instead
