Help Optimus battery life

No usage since my last post...but 5 more days and I'm only down another ten percent. Nine days on and 30% left. Even totally idle that is not bad.

I'm tempted to activate this a few days early so I can see what to truly expect.

Pardon me for asking, but why do you have an unactivated phone? What is the point? Why do you have a date that you are waiting for, to activate it? :confused:

I am not being critical, just trying to understand, as I have seen others post that they have un-activated Optimus S handsets as well. :)

Mine gets activated on the 23rd to go under the tree. It's to stop my daughter from messing with my evo ;)

Haven't needed to yet, but...with a 700mA charger and a 1500 battery in it, that doesn't sound far off to hit 4 hours charging.

I prefer a slow charge. My evo seems to drain slower...I've seen other say it enough that I don't think it is a placebo.

good to hear ... it's annoying that i can't play with my phone for 4 or 5 hours while it's charging during the day ... lol

guess i need to charge it overnight

I rarely full charge my phone anymore. I find myself giving it thirty minutes of juice in the car, and trickle charging part of the day at my desk. It all depends on your needs.
 
I'm also having a problem with battery life. Admittedly, I am a heavy user of my phone, but I use power management to keep all my extraneous services turned off for the majority of the day. I have yet to make it through a full day. However, that last post might be on to something . . .

When looking at my battery usage details, the battery is being drained at 59% from phone stand by. I don't have the greatest reception from my house. Is it possible that searching for a signal is the culprit for draining my battery. If so, what is the fix??

I have an Optimus T and I have discovered that the general mail app (not the Gmail app, the other one) is a huge battery hog on my phone. When I first got it, I set up Yahoo mail and my employer's Exchange mail on the phone through this app. The drain was unbelievable dropping 15-20% per hour even when idle. I downloaded OS Monitor and discovered the mail app was constantly running, using 20-30% of the cpu time on a continual basis. I've seen this mentioned relating to other Froyo devices. I did some experimenting and it doesn't matter which account I activate or what the sync setting is, it's just the same battery draining problem.

I removed all accounts from the mail app and instead downloaded the Yahoo app for that account and Touchdown for the exchange account. Suddenly, the battery life went from absurdly awful to terrific.
 
I disagree, I had the hero and to me the battery life was much better, I am in my 3rd battery from Sprint for this phone and I't driving me insane! I have deleted most of my apps, and installed a task killer and nothing is helping. I am very disappointed on this phone. :mad: However in comparison to the Iphone this battery is much different. I love the Android opp system but it doesn't touch the battery life on the iphone.

This is my first Android OS, I've come over from the Blackberry Curve, and to be honest, at least for me, the battery life is about the same. I make sure to turn off wifi and gps and bluetooth when I know I'm not going to use them. I don't try to "save" my battery either, I actually use the phone...I watch movies I've downloaded to the sd card, listen to music, surf, email, text, phone calls, whatever. On average, I get through the day without problems, and on the heavier days, I have a charger at work and in my truck.
 
I pulled the S off the charger today around 6:30am. Ive had about an hr of talk time, 40 mins of Slacker music player usage, lots of texts, some surfing of the Android market (about an hours worth), playing with the Torque app, checking my email constantly throughout the day, messin around with ADW launcher settings and having everything on, GPS, Wifi and bluetooth. I have a HORRIBLE cell signal at work so it bounces back and forth between no signal and 1 bar and I'm just now at 30%.

Every android phone that Ive had (now 2, the Zio and my previous S) were absolute crap with the ATK. I'll let Android run the show with battery usage on this replacement S that I just got. Whats so funny is that Ive not had 1 bit of trouble with the replacement phone in any way. Then again, it doesnt have ATK on it either. :D

I also don't have good signal at my house. And even with turning off the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS my battery was still getting drained. So a couple of days ago I saw that in Quick Settings I can turn off the 3G. I try it to see if it make any difference, and it did. Yesterday I unplugged the phone from the charger in the morning and 10.5 hours later my phone still had 91% battery. :) So I try to keep those things off when not using my phone.
 
I've had my Optimus S through Sprint for just about 2 weeks now and the battery life was the first thing I noticed. Prior to this, I've only had 'feature' phones that would literally stay alive for a week between charges..not so much with the Optimus, I guess.

I actually made the mistake the first night I had it of not plugging it in (it was at about 60%) and wound up waking up an hour late the next morning as the alarm didn't go off due to the battery dying overnight.

I've seen countless apps claiming to help extend battery life and to do things like turn off the wireless, gps and data (or get an app that manages it for you) when not in use but it really hasn't seemed to make a difference with mine. To resolve this, I just leave it plugged in to my desktop at the office via USB all day which doesn't really bother me, per se, but the short batt. life is still personally disappointing.

Of the current crop of smartphones the best you can expect is to make it thru a whole day with medium to heavy usage. There might be a blackberry or two that can do multiple days but I think even that is difficult to find.

If you are coming from a basic cellphone or feature phone any smartphone is going to require an adjustment from a battery life standpoint.

The optimus S has very good battery life for a smartphone but pretty much any feature phone will be able to beat it.
 
my battery only last 3 hours when I'm browsing the web and using apps, is there any way I could fix it?
THIS PHONE SUX.....ONLY 3 HOURS AND THEN I GOTTA RECHARGE, SMH
 
3 hours? Well I usually get 10 or more. I added the Juice Defender app and when off battery at work, I lower the screen brightness, turn off wifi and sometimes even the GPS.
 
I just got an Optimus M and I just noticed that when I was charging through USB and or another charger other than the LG it was getting hot and taking a really really really long time to charge. Also, now that I plugged it into the LG charger it went from 43%-46% in much less time and its not getting hot anymore. Im not sure if using another charger has other negative effects, but there is a possibility that it might actually affect the performance of the phone while charging but Im not sure and wouldn't say its a fr sure thing
 
So is there anything special or the batch of battery used are different for people who are getting less life on 1 full charge?

Today morning when i took the phone it was 100% charge, 30mins of texting and the charge came down by 10%, i think thats not normal considering I dont have 3g or wifi turned on.

Do i need to change the battery?

iv heard you have to condition the battery by letting it run completely out till it shuts off, then charge it fully, do this about three times and it conditions the battery , its sort of like conditioning the batterys memory, mine charges up pretty quick i thought, hope this helps. it seemed to help mine.
