Help Optimus V freezing/crashing/restarting - anyone else?

My Optimus V has been freezing a lot to. Regarding the directions:

home/settings/wireless & networks/wi-fi settings/HOME/advanced

I'm getting lost at HOME? There is no HOME in that menu for me? Is there some other way to get to it?

that should read menu (phone's menu key) rather than home.

Hi, i've had my Optimus V for almost a year in July. When i first got it, the 3G, Didnt work at all, so i had to go back to the store and swap the phone. This new phone worked great for a while, until just a few months ago. Now it freezes anywhere from 8-20 times a day depending on use, and resets anywhere from 5-15 times. I'm getting very annoyed at it. It seems to crash when i'm using an app or browsing the internet. I've gone through my phone and deleted almost all of my clunky and large apps to see if maybe my phone's performance would be better, but i've had no luck. I would love to just say it's becoming trash, and replace it with a new phone, but now Virgin mobile is making us pay $10 more a month if we change our phone after 5/27. So i really can't just get a new phone...

I wish LG and other phone companies would fix their phones, instead of telling us it's our fault with the way we treated them.

Are you rooted? Do you have a custom recovery and ROM installed? Has it been over a year since you received the phone?
Try replacing the sd card with a known good one. If that doesn't help:
If under a year turn it back in. They might have a V sent to you or the might have to give you some other option that I'm sure will not cause you to loose the $25.00 plan. Call and ask.

If out of warranty. You can always try and root it and install a custom recovery and ROM.
It could be your problems are only software related. If changing the ROM doesn't help then it's a hardware issue (CPU, motherboard, etc,).

If you're running stock (not rooted or rommed), have you tried factory reset? Often times system files (even a single file) can become corrupt and cause the issues you've mentioned. Factory reset will wipe and reinstall everything giving you clean system files. Be warned though that you will lose all of your apps and custom settings (this does not wipe your SD card), but these are not things that cannot be replaced and redone.

Id try that before I would attempt to root and install a custom rom. Especially if you were previously happy with your phone.

Thanks for the answer, but last night i tried factory resetting it, which i thought worked, until about an hour later, when it froze and rebooted again. I switched out my memory card with the smaller version that comes with the phone also, but it still doesnt work. This morning i thought it had finally broke when it turned off, turned on, Did the LG, Virgin Mobile, Android start up thing, then turned off, and did the start up thing again, only before turning off and doing it again. It did that about 6 times before i took the battery out and waited a while, it turned on again now, and works, but still freezes and resets.
I think i'll call in about it, although i highly doubt they will offer to replace it or fix it.

Since we've ruled out the software and SD card then I would venture to say that the phone has hardware issues, and it's probably time to either replace it or get another VM USA phone. :(

Mine just started doing this out of the blue, and I've completely lost 3G for the last 2 days. After flashing 3 roms, going back to unrooted stock, factory resets, several activations, replacing the battery, replacing the SD card, not adding any new apps, I'm about ready to toss this phone against the wall.

I'm blaming the ZV9 update.

Well of you really think its due to the zv9 update... Try reverting to zv4 or 5 sammy wrote a guide on how and I just reverted from zv9 back to my original zv4

I knew he wrote the guide, but I didn't know you could use it to revert... thank you for letting me know!! :five:

Anyone who has an Optimus V prone to freezing might benefit from what I learned over the weekend (in one of the forums, of course.) What cleared up my freezing problems was changing the wifi sleep policy to "never."
home/settings/wireless & networks/wi-fi settings/HOME/advanced
A lot of OV users, myself included, didn't know about the advanced settings, which are somewhat hidden in the menu. Fixed me right up.
Hope this works
Thank You
