Root Optimus V - unrooting/activation.

Evening. So I've recently come across the discovery that my rooted Optimus V cannot be reactivated with a new number once it falls out of service. Unfortunately, I have no other option but to have this phone, as I ship to basic military training Tuesday and am required to have one (or be forced to use a payphone, anyway. but I'd rather not draw attention for not having one, y'know?). Long story short, before I knew this I already re-made my account on Virgin's website and gave them a $35 card PIN before discovering I couldn't use the ##487466# menu to program the phone, or use the missing activation app. So could anyone quickly (as quickly as possible, anyway) walk me through how I could restore this phone to its original, unrooted state? (or link me to a thread that has a guide? I'm sorry for not searching but I'm a bit pressed for time.) I do understand that using the factory reset within the privacy settings of the phone itself can/will brick it, so I haven't done that. I just need the thing to be able to work. As it stands, it has internet access, but cannot make calls. The phone thinks it still has my old number. Trying to call out, I get a "Your account could not be validated" error. I called CS/TS on the land line and the guy on the phone tried telling me it was due to the coverage in my area being shoddy, due to tower repair, and said my phone would reprogram/update itself once it was finally done.. however I know this isn't the case. In any event, thanks for the help in advance. edit: wow, this site doesn't like paragraphs, apparently. Sorry for the wall-o'-text.

+1^The resurrected Bumblebee is the best Froyo ROM and includes the activate app.
