Root Opting out

I am recently rooted. I read that OTA updates can brick your phone. My question is is there a setting on the phone that can "turn off" updates? I think I read this here somewhere but cannot find it now. My kids are always snagging my phone and I'm afraid they will accept the OTA.

I know you can disable the HTC software update by going to....

menu --> settings --> system updates --> HTC software update --> and then uncheck "scheduled check"

well not necessarily. but why accept it when we have roms that have it cooked in. ota in general can do some weird things to your phone. it can brick it, there is potential there. it can give you s-on with a custom recovery which is a really weird state. or it could unroot you and sometimes you may not be able to root again and you will have to wait for the devs to fins another exploit which could be a while. so it is always recommended that you do not accept an ota.

I haven't gotten the nerve to attempt a Rom yet. Still stock. I'll just have to put my phone under lock and key. Kids... LOL

well it is really easy to do. if you want we can talk you through it. i would try mikg2.55. it is sooooooo much better then stock. you will super happy when you do, believe me.
