Orange 2.2 update

There's a lot of talk that Froyo won't show up if you have a Desire Black on 2.1 update 1. Which I have!
Don't know how true this is....

why would there be a lesser chance of the black handset getting the update? I'm sure that FroYo isn't racist.

I've got the "normal" bronze coloured one and there's still no sign of Froyo for me, despite hitting "check now" about 200 times so far today.

Just phoned up HTC customer service. At least this time they didn't say it had been withdrawn - I presume the previous email I got was someone getting confused with the O2 one being pulled or something?!

Anyway he couldn't give me any timescales, couldn't expedite my phone being updated. Just said I had to be patient and they were being done in batches based on serial numbers. Certainly not what Orange said :(

If its going to be weeks I'll debrand. If its likely to be tomorrow I won't. But they can't even tell us :(

Absolutely hopeless shambles. We've waited this long and still they mess us around :(

Orange reckon that is down to some "essential" maintenance required for the merger..... It's gonna be a long Winter :D

It's nothing to do with the merger mate! We're just having some instability right now..

There is an issue which ive just caught wind of where 3G data is currently failing for some users, this may have something to do with it as submission requests are failing in some systems. Support are looking into it!

Any word on the rumour that Froyo 2.2 has been pulled by Orange?

Thanks for the update Orange Rep, would have been nice for a text or any communication from Orange about this update coming through. I keep pressing Scheduled Check all the time, from last night and nothing coming through. How is this update coming through to Orange users, IMEI numbers? Where you live? Date the phone was brought?

Last night i was told to check checking updates an it was showing no updates available for this phone........

But every now again it would say 2.2 avaiable for download an as i was useing wifi i clicked use wifi, an started the download...which then encounted a downloading error.

I had this several times until lucky enough 12:14am last night i got through and the download worked like a dream :D

84mb no added orange crap and my battery today has lasted alot longer than normal.

Keep clicking on check for updates guys, sometimes it took around 15 clicks until i got through...

hope some of you are as lucky as i was :D

If I knew how to create an app to auto check for the update I could probably make a fortune as surely everybody is as pissed off as me of going into settings, about phone, system software updates then check now!:)

Come on nerds, create me an Orange 2.2 Froyo checker!:D

Knowing how much Orange manage to balls up pretty well every other aspect of customer relationship management, my guess is that they have decided to roll it out by star sign. I'm Taurean and cannot get the update, neither can my mate who also has a birthday in May! It's as good a hypothesis as any regarding the random nature of Orange service provision!

i've still not got the update(glasgow), beginning to ****ing annoy me now.

edit: the server traffic information orange keeps giving is alot of shite too, i've been trying constantly since tuesday and have gotten nowhere.

Thats bollocks! I haven't noticed anyone from the Northwest with the update yet and i've been trying loads of times and no joy :( and i don't believe that there is a massive amount of people trying to update manually during the whole day.

Oh get a grip, of course it's not being done geographically. What, do you think they're filtering who can have based on what cell tower you're connected to

I too have been pressing "check now", hundreds of times at different times of the day and changing from GPRS to WiFi. I tried moving the date forward, rebooting, standing on one leg, everything.......nothing!!!!

Last night I even got a text message from Orange, "Hi from Orange, we would like to inform you that Android 2.2 has been released for a substantial customer base today. You will receive it soon".

I thought, wow this is it, I better increase my effort on the "check now" button, maybe I'm just not trying hard enough.

To date, guess what......nothing.

Every time I speak to Orange I am told a completely different story and it seems that everyone else is told even more, different stories.

Somebody MUST know what is going on.

I can't believe all the staff at Orane customer service don't know what the problem is.

Have they all been told to "make something up" when asked about Froyo?

Why don't they just say "I don't know" if they don't?

So many rumours.

Please Orange just tell us. Has the roll out been pulled? Will Desire "black" owners be left out and why? How you are rolling this thing out; IMEI, HT no., contract length, monthly bill, need for update, IQ, eye colour, shoe size.....? How many people in each batch? How many batches a day? How long will it take for the last Desire owner to get their update?

It would be a great comfort, just to know the truth, whatever it is.

Just checked again.... guess what.....nothing!!!
Arrrrrrrrrrh

Theoretically it could be partially geographical if its being released by batches of serial numbers, as stores will get phones from a similar production run, so there will likely be some sort of geographical bias to the updates. Correlation rather than cause though.
