Orange 2.2 update

There's a lot of talk that Froyo won't show up if you have a Desire Black on 2.1 update 1. Which I have!
Don't know how true this is....
This software issue was known last week , all Black Desires are running the old software. Orange are an absolute JOKE

If you are running software version number 1.15.61.10 then HTC has recently advised us you will first need to update your devices to 1.22.61.1.

HTC will be making the 1.22.61.1 update available early next week. Once you have updated to 1.22.61.1, you can then update to 2.17.61.2 via the method described above

How do we update to 1.22.61.1? Do we just use the 'check now' method?

Yeah i second that, how can we update from 1.15 to 1.22 without having to wait for htc to release it too us on ?wednesday (thats the day i heard somewhere)...

There must be a way to just manually update ourselves, the file must be somewhere and once we can do it then all we have to do is just use the search for update on the phone to upgrade to 2.2...

However knowing my luck nothing is as simple as it seems lol

Mines black with the new software, got mine in August so this is no doubt the reason why. Still cant update though.

Hi mate, was just wondering could i debrand my htc? Its on 1.15 software and 2.1 update 1.

That's what mine was on. I followed the steps from this guide (from the "Update! The newer and simpler method" bit) and it worked like a charm, taking about ten to twenty minutes or so from start to finish. The only issue I had was a "171" error, which became a "170" error (something about USB) which was kind of scary as when I disconnected the phone it was stuck at the white Android boot screen and wouldn't do anything, but I removed and replaced the battery and it was fine. To fix the error I installed the new version of HTC Sync and tried running the update file again and it went like clockwork. Take your SIM card out before you update though otherwise it might get locked and you'll have to buy an unlock code.

As for Froyo it's lovely - lots of nice little things like bidirectional rotation of the screen (i.e. you can turn it clockwise to rotate as well as anticlockwise), some nice new apps (wifi hotspot, and the flashlight is handy) and best of all my battery life seems to be massively improved. Haven't noticed any difference in speed, but I'm sure it is going like the clappers behind the scenes.

Checked for the 5th time today and...............IT'S DOWNLOADING :-D

If you want a problem with Orange consider me:
I got my Desire on Orange back in June and went on holiday to devon that night. Phone worked perfectly during my fortnights holiday. I get home and find I get no service at my house and basically can't use the phone at home. I had checked Orange's coverage checker on their website before I got the phone and it said excellent service at my house and my postcode.
Because I didn't return the phone during the 1st 14 days of my contract I am now stuck on orange for the full 18 months and say they can't do anything about it. They tell me the coverage checker is a guidline only and they can't guarantee indoor service, but my phone hardly works anywhere outdoors on my street!!
Love the phone and it works perfectly anywhere except for my postcode!!

Sounds like a very good arguement for the "Sale of Goods and Services act"

You've been sold a phone (which works) however, you have a "service", which you cant use. Therefore, service is not fit for purpose. Throw that into the mix and mention clearly the act as above (including it's established date - can't remember when it was established, but it is fairly recent as it is an amendment from the Sale of Goods act to include services)

Just a thought!

I'm actually thinking of arguing this with Orange as pretty much everyone else has their upgrade, apart from me (cant get Froyo on FTA because I have the incorrect software version, meaining more delays) So I say my phone is not fit for purpose - 50/50 I know, but added with the delays I think there is a case for at least 3 months free rental ;)

I have the same - black (er, orange, branded) one. Running the old software, so can't update.

"OrangeHelpers" on Twitter say the mini update will be released "early" this week. This update is needed before Froyo can be installed....

Orange+HTC = CRAP!!!

Mine's Black and running the newer software. Still can't get the update however.

Black one, bought in early September - updated and running Froyo a couple of hours after the release.

All updated now, on 2.2 however now i'm having problems syncing my google account. won't acept my password :-(

This is what happens when you try to spend as little as possible on an upgrade project, its a very poor demonstration and will cost Orange many customers at their contract renewal point. They have demonstrated how inept they are at providing quality service in the modern smart phone arena, which is evolving at a rapid rate and requires dynamic infrastructure to be able to provide a quality service.

It seems Orange may have been caught out trying to do this on the cheap and short changing their customers as has been proven now by those loading the generic HTC ROMs and getting the 2.2 update instantly upon completion. This will all boil down to how much of HTC infrastructure they have provisioned for this upgrade, that's if they are actually using HTC infrastructure and not another party.

It's a shame their marketing department has not realised just how important update/patch deployment is to a smart phone customer, for many it's as good as getting a new handset with improved functionality, I'm sure many will move on to a network that do.

I''m still waiting for the 2.2 update to come down to my Orange branded phone, I'm on software 1.15.61.10, so I assume I'm just waiting for HTC to send an update to my phone for the new software. So I have emailed HTC and got this reply:

htc 2.2 at the moment not all networks support the 2.2 update. the updates come to you ota, they come to groups of people at a time so there servers do not crash, and may cause problems. 1) make sure your phone is fully up to date from the rom upgrades on the htc website, as your phone wont start updating ota unless it has the older roms on the phone from our website. ( if this applies ) 2) have a strong network internet signal or wifi connected. 3) check wether your phone and network is supporting the new 2.2 update yet. 4) you can check for the update on your phone through the settings, aboutphone, software, check now. 5) change the date and time on your phone to 1 year ahead and wait a day. (this normaly wakes the phone up making it need the update) 6) do a factory reset, make sure its fully set up and up to date with the latest rom upgrade from the htc website.

I noticed on the HTC website there is a Software update for the HTC Desire but when you click on it, it just loops back round to the link again, so no one has a clue really what is going on!! Orange sent this out last week, then Orange say you need to upgrade the software, HTC say....???

Hi,

Have just spoken to Orange who as usual are clueless. They told me that they knew nothing about the requirement of being on 1.22.6.10 before you could update. Has there been any further news on when an update will be available to go from 1.15 to 1.22 in order that we then get a chance to recieve the update.

I then decided that it would be a good idea to talk to HTC as it appears they are the ones that role out the releases. They say that both updates have been passed to orange and that it is them who release the update. HTC have nothing to do with it.

As usual it looks like it is Desire owner tennis between HTC and Orange help.

Just to make some people happier, my brother has 1.22.6.10 on his phone and got an update for 2.2 through earlier today. Unfortunately it says you should connect to WIFI to do it and he had not got WIFI connection where he was. He therefore had to cancel the update. Does anyone know if the update will reappear when he does a manual search???

The Update is definately targetting some phones just not those who got the phone early!!!!

Hi guys Like you i couldnt get the update tried all weekend. just tried now in central london and its showing that I can get the update on Orange. I got my phone 2 days ago from ebay. I've unlocked it with code, Will the Update SIM LOCK IT?
