Orange UK 2.1 update news

Can anyone offer some advice?

I downloaded part 1 and since then I can't download anything from the market place.

Is there a connection or has something else caused it?

It must be something else.. works fine for me. Try sign in and out with your google account

Same here. V12 works very well and it's pretty speedy. Plus having chance for more speedynes from custom 2.2 I don't know if there's point in going for Orange 2.1... the time will tell ;)

Can you do me a favour, can you check to see if the default browser can do file uploads.

The browser in 2.1 and below has had the basic file upload web form disabled for some reason, and I'd really love to know if it works or not.
 
downloaded, and paid for, some apps today without an issue. I have reset my phone though since it booted, maybe worth giving that a go just for s.... and giggles
 
PANIC OVER!!!

Needed to switch phone on and off and put in another date in future to get it to find the update.

ok now for part 2!

I had this problem. I had to copy the androidusb.sys from "c:/program files/htc/htc driver/driver files/win7_x86" to "c:/windows/system32/drivers". I think Windows installed an older driver from Windows Update. Backup the androidusb.sys in your system32/drivers folder just in case this doesn't fix it.

I had a similar issue which when I reset my phone, which was caused by me having the older ROM version being incompatible with the latest version of HTC Sync.

Solved it by uninstalling the newest Sync and then installing the old version that was saved on the phone itself.

Maybe of use.

I had this issue too. Try:
'Setting' -> 'Applications' -> 'Manage Applications' -> 'Market' -> 'Clear Cache'.

I fiddled around trying a couple of things but I think that's what finally fixed my problem of all apps failing to download.

I had this same problem last night after the first part of the update. It seems to work now after I turned my phone off and back on.

Anyone called orange to find out when part 2 will be released? I tried this morning but got a clueless girl who said she'd call me back.
 
Information: statement from HTC on Hero Android 2.1 delay

I updated to 2.73.61.92 last night after going to .66 first of all, which wiped my phone. I've put everything back on there but for some reason, it won't let me log in to Facebook in the Social Networks part of my Settings (I can log in to the actual app without a problem). For over 24 hours now, I keep getting the error message that the service is unavailable.

I wouldn't mind, but most of my contacts photos come from there so now everyone has a blank face! Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone know how to fix it?


Edit - scrap all of that. I've finally found a fix! Something to do with my work profile on Facebook!

I sorted this issue by adding work location, in the info tab on my Facebook profile.
 
OK ... just want to make sure I have got this right and you experts have never let me down yet!

I am running a stock Orange Hero on ROM 2.73.61.5. As I understand it I have a three step procedure

Step 1. First I have to update the ROM to 61.66 which I have already downloaded to my PC in readiness.

Step 2. Once I put that on I will quickly get an alert asking me to download Part 1 of 2.1. That is already out there and able to be downloaded

Step 3. And finally after that I will get notified again and download part 2 of 2.1. This is not yet out there, but will be "soon".

As I understand it steps 1 and 3 wipe everything off my phone and I will have to reinstall everything so should back up. Now I need my phone too much to be without all the info on it and I don't want to have the hassle of reinstalling everything twice. So I aim to do it all at once, and only reinstall once at the end of the process. So I don't want to start the process until the second part is out there and available.

Can anybody see a snag with that plan? When do you think the second part will be out. I suspect I will know when it has arrived, because of the number of new posts on this thread!

You're all set, then. Better wait till the second part is released, then do the whole trip. Depending on the way you've set up your phone, it might take an entire afternoon to restore it to the way you like it, and I can see why you wouldn't want to do it twice.

Thats is my exact plan as well peter, i kinda thought the same way stuff installing and setting up my phone twice, wished now i had done the other update when it came out but i completely missed it no idea how, anyway i have same plan as you so guy keep us posted on progress with the new rom.

Quick question...I have been waiting for this 2.1 update for as long as I can remember. However hadn't realised I wasn't updated to the .66 ROM, I've spent all day trying to get my HTC Sync to work and after giving up I just handed the task to my brother. He's eventually finished and gave me my phone back and I checked the details expecting to see I was running on .66 however I now appear to be on 2.73.61.92, is this the 2.1 Part 1 update because I'm far too backward when it comes to these numbers.

You're all set to go for the second part. It's not out yet.

Step 3 will not wipe your phone but it will reset HTC Sense back to default. Even though HTC Sense has gone back to default all of your apps and contacts etc will still be there.
 
Once part two is available, is it still going to be necessary to upgrade to 1.6 first? Or will 1.5 users still get the OTA update?

As soon as the phone was rebooting after flashing to .66 it would have notified and grabbed the .92 update.
