Help Orientation when shooting video

Haven't seen this problem yet so here goes. I shot video while holding the phone in portrait mode. When I put the video on my computer, it showed up turned sideways in landscape so I had to turn my head to watch it. Nothing I did could make it rotate back to upright.

I finally converted it with a program call Flip, and subsequent tests showed that I had to shoot my videos in landscape to get them to play in portrait. Am I crazy? or am I missing a setting somewhere. I also had to convert the .3gp files to send them by email. Have since found ways to convert to avi, etc., but the orientation thing is driving me crazy. Help?

hi there, no your not going crazy, for whatever reason the video is always displayed in landscape regardless of the way your holding it, hence why your filming holding the phone upright and its being displayed the wrong way round, it is a pain in the ass i admit but i just always use flip and rotate to flip it round.

You should always shoot holding the phone sideways (landscape). this is how ALL cameras and camcorders shoot, in a 16x9 format, or 4x3 format. Both are longer than they are tall, so thats how you need to shoot.

Links to flip? I learned this a while back but I have some older vids I would love to "flip"

Try www.dvdvideosoft.com. It's a suite of freeware my guru brother sent me. Somewhere from it, he extracted a Flip and Rotate utility and it worked great. If that's not it, I'll delve deeper.

And, not everybody knows to shoot video in landscape. :) Obviously, not I. My phone coaxes me to hold it in portrait, of course. My digital camera by its nature coaxes me to hold it in landscape. Guess that's why my camera videos have always worked out right.

But this forum has scored again. Learn something everytime I click in. :)
