OTA 2.1 Has started..

The Nexus version of the live wallpaper with the darker droid background is the best imo but you must be rooted to get it (unless they fix the nexusmod wallpaper to work on droids).

Everything seems to work great, except my photo gallery. Constantly FC, even when trying to apply a picture frame widget. Anyone else having issues?

I just switched from iPhone to Droid (mainly due to AT&T's (lack of) coverage in my area (mountains))

Anyway to my question. when I update manually, am i getting the exact same software as if I waited for the OTA. (Would Verizon know the difference.)

Work for me!!!!!

also google earth is now on the market place if you wanna download it. the only problem is it doesnt it have the feature of using your custom layers from maps.google.com which is kinda weird. Hopefully they will patch that soon.

Btw: the entire above parapgh was done usuing the new voice to text feature!!!!! Only 2 typos...but I did have to go back in and add puncuation.

You guys are awesome!! By the way as far as that VIP thing i read in this thread, been with verizon for about 12 years and receive VIP emails with special pricing all the time and i did not receive the OTA update. Thanks Again

Ahhh! I'm running so late! But, my guide to install the update is up and the files are hosted on my server spaces. You can find it here! Enjoy! :D

Seeing as the download link posted is the actual link to the file hosted on google's servers, may I ask how you managed to get that link? I thought you guys were just trying to pul the update.zip off of his phone.

I think they just had to look through the phone's logs to trace back the address that it downloaded the file from.
He posted the info here:
2.1 download link, credit to ugot2go123 on androidforums

I walked him through installing the SDK, including ADB, the USB Debugging driver, enabling USB Debugging, and running logcat. Then had him run logcat and hit the install button. It said it was going to install /cache/signed-voles-ese81-from-esd56.fa406da6.zip so I deduced that the filename would be the same on the android.clients.google.com site and that the location would be the same. It was.

From my guide?

YEa, it was corrupted. When I downloaded my Mac automatically unzipped it. When I zipped it back up I messed something up. I re-downloaded the file and disabled auto unzip. Everything worked perfectly
Oh okay! Glad to hear it! I'll make a note of this on the guide a bit later.

How to disable

Safari > preferences > General > uncheck "Open safe files after downloading"

In Firefox preferences, under Applications, find the file type (PC ZIP?) and click it and set up the option to just dowload the file, or ask you what to do.

First, thank you all for making this possible. You all are truly... "crackdroids!" lol

Everything seems smoother after the update: scrolling through apps, transitioning between apps, loading the camera, and the new gallery. Web browsing is so much better; fully-rendered Engadget, CNN, Phandroid, and National geographic don't lag anymore and I can scroll through everything smoothly.

It's a little bit of let down how live wallpaper clogs the phone up, but who cares about those? I love my phone. :)

Woohoo! Installed like a charm, you guys rock. Seems like Home++ and Live Wallpapers don't quite get along, but Neural Net on the lock screen alone just looks awesome. The new gallery is awesome as well.

Thanks again!

Intersting you say that, the live wallpapers dont slow me down much at all, not even noticable(currently using Neural Network but tested the water one too, even that didnt slow me down)

The only time I noticed the live wallpapers slow me down any was when I was running DroidMod or CyanogenMod.

No 3d app drawer on the 2.1. We don't get the additional home screens like the milestone

We should separate the problems from those who got a legit install and those who forced the install. There may be a difference just like when people waited or forced the 2.0.1 update.

There shouldn't be any differences. The file is the exact same as the one that will come in the ota. This is just a different way of installing it.
