OTA 2.1 Has started..

There shouldn't be any differences. The file is the exact same as the one that will come in the ota. This is just a different way of installing it.

unless they change the build before the next wave because of problems

Could happen but i doubt it. If so all we would have to do is force another update.

I havent experianced any noticable problems after my install. No lagg from live wallpapers. (actually seems to be faster from screen to screen and opening apps/widgets) -- zooming in maps isnt that bad either.. only you have to wait for it to render after zooming to the preffered distance.

the media player has a new layout, but i use mixZing lite anyways. Gallery is a lot more stress free to scroll through and find pictures.

But this was coming from 2.0.1. I assume if you were rooted that the "upgrade" may have been a step-down from what you were used to prior to.

I will be rooting this time around fellow modro's

I like it! The gallery is much more hassle-free, the browser pinch-zoom is pretty smooth. I actually like it better than Dolphin.... At least the pinch zooming. Probably won't use live wallpapers, but they run pretty well. All-in-all it runs really well. Don't know why early reports were that it was laggy.

Also there was a very small change in the "dock" mode... They moved the night/day mode button I think.. I never used it but it looks like its new.. Anyone confirm?

Man, I was hoping for improved exchange integration and more home screens. Guess I got nothing. Maybe it's time to root.

I just installed 2.1 from the Google download site (2.1 download link, credit to ugot2go123 on androidforums) and all is well.

The OS is definitely a bit snappier throughout (the app tray is A LOT smoother). The Browser also works well too (almost no scroll lag on big pages, unlike 2.0.1).

Bear in mind I didn't have any real "system altering" apps in 2.0.1, so maybe that's why mine seems to working fine.

I'll post anything else I find.

Is it possible to download the update.zip file to your phone and then use a file manager program to move it to /sdcard? Then it would be a matter of following the instructions from "4.Preparing for the Update" as posted by Trident?

Got the 2.1 update last night some time after midnight (I must have been in the lucky second wave of 9,000) and updated no problem while in my media dock.

The first thing I noticed was on the media dock screen, the screen dimmer switch and home button switched places (handy since I use the home button more than the dimmer and now it's bigger).

I installed Google Earth and put the news widget on a home screen (still just 3 home screens).

Built-in browser has pinch zoom, which is handy (I've tried other browsers and have stuck with the default).

No problems with the phone or other apps, and, in fact, it does seem to run a bit faster so far (haven't tried any live wallpapers yet, though).

Myself and another guy at work have both installed this today. Thanks guys for your effort and insanity. :) So far, I think it is running smoother. I have a live wallpaper up and running and no ill effects. I run my phone pretty stock, lots of apps, but nothing to modify themes or screens.

I tried out Live Wallpapers and they ran smooth as silk.

I have a feeling that the people seeing speed issues have a lot of mods installed. Time will tell though!

Thanks to EVERYONE involved in getting this update to the faithful masses! It has been long overdue (That the update came out) and everyone should enjoy!

i was prepared to use DM Updater and root and i downloaded the file using the app but before i restarted it in recovery mode i started to read about the new update finally coming. if i force update it will i have any problems because of the DM Updater files that i already downloaded? sorry if this is a newb question..

I never rooted or installed mods on mine and it still lags on LWP. I'll try factory reset when I get back from work, and will report to you all if it changes anything. It'd be awesome if I see any improvements!

Nah. The distribution works like this:

At noon today, only 1000 people got it. At midnight, another 9000 will get it. Tomorrow, no one will get it, and starting 4/1 200,000 a day will get it.

So, if one of the original 1000 people had gotten it, it would've been posted hours ago. Now, we have much better chances of getting the file during the 2nd wave.

I know I've re-enabled OTA updates on my custom ROM to try to see if I'm one of the lucky 9000 :D

How do you enable OTA updates on a custom rom?
