OTA ICS Issues on Bionic

At home, plugged into the wall, no issue with my wife's Nook charger. Or the Moto one. The cheapo wall charger does charge, but it makes the screen buggy. (As do a lot of non moto chargers...)

Moto usb is good to go.

Cheapo usb... no screen issues, but it hardly charges. Again... you get what you pay for with non moto stuff.
 
Got the OTA, was not able to successfully update until I flashed back to stock 905. Running ICS now and I just successfully rooted using Razrs Edge Root method.
 
No problems here. Done in under an hour. No whine, no glitches, still charges with my Kindle recharger as well stock.

It is critical before you root your Bionic that you acknowledge that you are assuming total responsibility for whatever happens. If you aren't prepared to replace your Bionic at full retail from your own pocket then you should not root.

Please post all messages requiring root in ... All Things Root.

My update was waiting on me when I woke up on Friday the 19th. It took probably an hour for everything to finish. I was going camping Friday night and ran around all day getting ready (taking 15 teen boys from the church.) Noticed that things were a bit choppy when I would use the phone during the day. Sat down at the campfire Friday night and decided to play while the boys played Capture the Flag and realized that I only had 30% battery left. This wasn't normal, I can normally go about two days on the extended battery if I have too. I knew I might need the phone (the actual phone part of the phone) in case of emergency so, instead of playing around, I shut her down. Got home Saturday and put the phone on the charger and went to play. Everything had smoothed out nicely and couldn't find any issues. Played on it the rest of the weekend and found no problems and the battery life got better. Got to work on Monday and decided to clean the phone up a bit. Started sorting through apps and said, "What the Heck!" and did a FDR from the recovery menu. I didn't let Google restore anything and started from scratch. The phone is now much snappier than ever and smooth as silk. Battery life is somewhat better than before the update. So, although I wouldn't normally recommend this, I recommend an FDR after the update. I've never had any of the whine or data issues with this phone and thought it was fantastic when I got it right after release, but now its like having a new phone.

Tap the apps button to pull up the apps menu. At the top, there are two tabs, one is apps and one is widgets, tap the widgets tab. Find the widget you want to use and tap and hold it, it will switch you back to the home screen and allow you to drop the widget where ever you like.

2 Issues:

1.) When attached to my laptop dock, the phone will suddenly turn itself off.

2.) DLNA is gone

BTW - got official OTA. Not rooted. Did full factory data reset after ICS installed.
 
The only issue that I've run into so far after the OTA is that my Bionic no longer will pair with the Bluetooth in my Jeep.
I see that as being more of a Jeep problem, but it still qualifies I guess.

Otherwise this is REALLY cool!

Probably too late for you, but for others....

Motorola said that you can pull out the micro SD card during this process (even while running) and it will finish up quickly. They said it will then take a while before all your media is synced when you put it back in, but that process will run in the background and you can use your phone. They mentioned this on their support forums (Matt) https://forums.motorola.com/posts/d6902cae59

For others, mine took about 3 hours. It wasn't stuck, it did eventually come around to finishing. Have thousands of photos, hundreds of videos, and about 400 songs.

I figured with all the initial customizing and playing with new features, scrolling and finding things, the first couple days will take a toll on the battery.

Once I settle into the routine and stop wanting to check everything out every 5 min, I'm sure that will help the battery. Lol

Did you charge to 100% after installing 6.7.246? The installation process eats battery.

I was a soak tester and I've had it for almost a week. The fist two days of soak i didn't have that much dif battery life but it's slowly been getting worse. I haven't installed any dif apps nor has my phone usage increased but I'm barely making it to 9pm or 10pm on a work day with extended battery whereas i was at 50% on average with gingerbread with similar or more use on a work day. My phone is also getting hot a lot unlike before a if something is running in the background but I'm using a task manager to kill anything that may be running.

That may be the problem. If you are killing tasks that are just restarting themselves again right after they are killed, you are using more battery, not saving. Try running without the task killer.

Also, whenever an Android handset gets an OS upgrade, it is generally a good idea to do a factory data reset and reinstall from scratch if you are having problems after an in-place upgrade.
 
i do not want to use wifi. i keep trying to turn it off but it seems to turn itself back on all day today at work. Keeps having an ? icon in the top of the notification bar. how can i completely turn this off?

I agree ... since it is getting hot I think it is caused by constantly killing and auto-restarting apps.

Under GB there was a battery mode setting. Is there one under ICS or do I use the smart actions to mimic what i want to do to save battery?
