Root OTA Update and rooted Desire

Hello,

It looks like a bunch of people have gotten some kind of OTA update and I remember reading somewhere that those who have rooted have to simply download them.

So, my question is, does the update affect rooted phones adversely? Also, where can I get the update? I looked on HTC's page, but there were no downloads except for the HTC Sync.

I followed Lekky's original guide to rooting and haven't done anything more to my phone than that.

I followed Nimbu's original guide to rooting and haven't done anything more to my phone than that.

Yesterday I was pinged regarding the update (see pics). As I wasn't sure whether the update would affect rooted phones adversely, I declined.

I did notice, however, that the version in Nimbu's root image was lower than the one on the phone, so maybe it's just trying to bring me back up to where I was before rooting.

So, my question is also, does the update affect rooted phones adversely?
Will the phone be un-rooted by accepting this update, or will it be the situation but with a newer firmware?

When I tried applying the OTA update to my rooted Hero, it just failed on reboot presumably because of the different bootloader.

I too have a Desire that I rooted using Lekky's guide. I got halfway through downloading the firmware update today but suddenly thought perhaps it would mess up or un-root my phone. So if anyone knows if it is safe to install this update on a rooted Desire or not please let us know!

From reading other threads, it looks like this is a minor update that will mess up the Wifi. I downloaded it, but then hit some button (back maybe) and it disappeared. I went into my file explorer and just deleted it. There was an option to discard (or install later). I figure, it works fine enough for me now. I'll wait until Froyo comes out to make major changes.

Yes the 1.21 update does cause problems to rooted desires ie it stop wifi from working. You can get it to work using your goldcard but only if your phone has been unlocked, otherwise IT WILL SIMLOCK your phone

Well, the day is arriving (it's been announced to happen this weekend), and I'm seriously tempted to upgrade -- and seriously worried what it will do to my wifi. Will it work or will it break? If it will break, can I repair it with some goldcard voodoo, or does it have to be serviced, or what?

Can anyone offer a word of encouragement?

we'll post on here when the rooted version of the official 2.2 rom is available, then you can simply flash that.

No word about the danger involved in going back to stock, though. All right, I'll just continue to not dare.

Not entirely without trepidation, I decided to go forth and install the Unrevoked recovery, because I liked having Nandroid on my Galaxy and wanted to have a good backup prior to upgrading.
Well, on my Windows work laptop Unrevoked didn't see my device (although it does appear as a device), but on my linux home workstation it worked without a hitch. Truly amazing that something as advanced as that can be served that comfortably!

Then I crossed my fingers and installed the official 2.2 upgrade with extras from this xda thread, along with the mentioned radio upgrade. That, too, worked without a hitch -- and I'm happy to report that everything seems to work!
There was a bit of fiddling with new and altered APNs, but the phone, radio, wifi (even built-in hotspot), and camera all work just fine.

I can't say whether it's all that much smoother than before, it seems rather the same, but let's see what the next couple of days bring. For now, it does not seem to "eat" the battery as other have reported.

I've uninstalled my flashlight app as that's now built-in as well, and sadly it seems that AutoLock can't be used to force-lock the screen.
